"Mackenzie, nice to see you again. Congratulations, by the way." Lohen said as she walked into the interview room where Mackenzie was being held. She looked up at her lawyer and nodded silently.
"Sheriff Harmon, did the owner of the vehicle you claim my client stole file the charges?" Lohen asked the sheriff sitting across from she and Mackenzie. The sheriff flipped through some pages on his clipboard and turned it over for Lohen to see.
Mackenzie looked at the report and saw something that made her want to smile. She tapped Lohen on the shoulder before leaning in to her ear and whispering.
"Sheriff, it appears as though a Tony H. Whitman filed this auto theft report. If you look closely at the title," Lohen spun the clipboard around and pointed at the copy of the car title. "The vehicle in question was owned by a Tony B. Whitman. My client has informed me that those are in fact two different people."
"Excuse me? Regardless, the owner's father has filed this report. It doesn't matter who reported it, a car was still stolen and driven across several state lines." The sheriff spoke quickly and became tongue tied at first. Lohen shook her head and picked up her briefcase.
"Unless you have a death certificate along with a final will or a bill of sale, it does in fact matter. My client's transportation will be here shortly. I suggest your staff file the proper discharge papers quickly so that we may be able to avoid harassment and wrongful imprisonment lawsuits." Lohen shook Mackenzie's hand, followed by the sheriff's and left the room. Mackenzie smirked and looked at the furious sheriff.
"You and your family will run out of luck sooner or later. There will come a time when I won't be able to offer you deals for information." Harmon stood up and started collecting his papers from the table. Mackenzie leaned forward and smiled darkly.
"Next time you come near my family, you better be damn sure the charges stick." Mackenzie growled and followed Harmon with her eyes. Once the door closed behind the sheriff, Mackenzie turned her attention to the two-way mirror across from her and smiled as she flipped it two birds.
SIX MONTHS LATER
"Mack, you almost ready?" Jax called from the living room. He was trying to wrestle Abel into shoes. It was the end of May and summer was in full swing and hot as hell. Mackenzie had gotten to the point in her pregnancy that she couldn't really chase Abel around that well.
"I look like a whale." Mackenzie said with a sigh as she walked into the room. She was wearing a mint green, chiffon dress that came down to just above her knees and a pair of tan leather sandals. Jax smiled and shook his head as he pulled her to him.
"You look beautiful, Mack. I'm going to go get the car started and cooled off. Try and talk him into putting shoes on." He motioned towards their son who was sitting barefoot on the couch. Mackenzie laughed and nodded as she sat down next to him.
"Remember those cupcakes Gramma said you could have at the party?" Mackenzie asked Abel. He looked over at her and nodded with a smile.
"She said you can only have one if you're good, right?" Mackenzie smiled over at the blonde, miniature Jax. He furrowed his brow a little before hopping down from the couch and pulling his shoes on. Mackenzie laughed and tousled his hair a little.
"You make that look easy, babe. Abel, head out to the car." Jax said as he helped Mackenzie off of the couch. Abel skipped out of the front door as his parents followed.
"It's about time you three get here!" Gemma said as she opened her front door. Mackenzie smiled and kissed her on the cheek politely. She and Gemma weren't quite seeing eye to eye since Mackenzie started looking for preschools for Abel.
"Mom, we're five minutes early. You try getting this one ready and out of the door." Jax rolled his eyes at Gemma as he carried Abel inside. He was just hoping that Gemma wouldn't stir shit up during the baby shower she'd insisted on throwing Mackenzie.
Jessie hugged Mackenzie as walked out onto the patio. The back yard was covered with tables and balloons along with a huge inflatable ball house for the kids to play in. Mackenzie smiled as she noticed Juice playing with Jessie's daughter Aaliyah. They'd been dating for a few months now, and it seemed to be going pretty well.
"I wish I could have a freaking drink." Mackenzie said as she tossed her bag on a table and pulled herself up onto a barstool. Jessie laughed and picked up her glass of water.
"Me and you both." She said shyly. Mackenzie's eyes flew open as she smiled excitedly. Jessie laughed as she was pulled into a tight hug.
"Why didn't I know this sooner? How far along are you?" She asked, glancing out at Juice. She should have known something was up with the extra runs Juice was volunteering for. Babies took money and runs made money.
"Seven or eight weeks. We didn't really plan on telling anyone until after my first trimester." Jessie rubbed Mackenzie's belly and smiled.
"My lips are sealed. I'm happy for you though. Looks like the cavalry has arrived." Mackenzie's voice was almost drowned out by the roaring of several motorcycles. Jax sat Abel down so he could go play as he talked to Juice.
"You doing okay, Dad?" Jax lit up a cigarette as Juice laughed. He'd come clean with Jax a couple weeks ago when he'd been questioned about volunteering so much.
"Good as I can be. You're closer to being a dad again than I am. You telling everybody if it's glitter or guns today?" Jax laughed and nodded as he looked over at his wife.
"Something like that. Don't forget we've got to go meet with Alvarez after this." Juice nodded, wondering how he could ever forget. Jax was set on striking some type of truce before Mackenzie went into labor.
"Jacky Boy!" Chibs called as he walked into the yard. Jax nodded and pulled him into a one armed hug. He laughed when he noticed Chibs carrying a bag with a stork on it.
"You'll have to ask Gemma where to put that." He said as he followed his brother back towards the house. He stopped and kissed Mackenzie on the back of the head as Chibs went inside to find Gemma. Jax and Mackenzie greeted their family with hugs and smiles until everyone was there.
Jax pulled Mackenzie up towards the fire-pit that sat in the middle of the large, stone patio. Everyone turned their attention to the expectant parents once Chibs whistled and pointed at Jax. Abel squirmed around as he sat on top of Happy's shoulders.
"First, thank you all so much for coming. It means a lot to me that you all took the time out of your day and off of your bikes for a girly party." She winked over at Happy as she quoted his term for a baby shower. He nodded with a smile.
"I know you all want to know if Mackenzie is giving me another wonderful son or a daughter." Jax smiled over at Mackenzie as he rubbed his hand on her lower back. "Come July 4th, we should have a beautiful baby girl."
Everyone started clapping and cheering as Mackenzie blushed. She was swarmed with hugs and kisses from the family. She laughed as Abel clapped his hands on Happy's head. Gemma came up and hugged Mackenzie tightly.
"I'm happy for you, doll. I'm glad to have you as part of the family." Mackenzie returned her smile and nodded.
"Thank you, Gemma." Mackenzie's voice trailed off as she felt a strong kick. Jax walked up to her and kissed her on the cheek.
"I gotta go babe. You okay here?" She nodded and passed him the keys to their car. He kissed her once more before heading through the house with the rest of the Sons. The only ones to stay behind with the women were the prospects.
Mackenzie, Jessie and Gemma headed inside while the prospects cleaned up outside. In the living room, there was a huge pile of baby gifts that tired Mackenzie just looking at them. She was relieved that Aaliyah and Abel volunteered to open them for her. The old ladies of SAMCRO watched the next generation tearing through bags and paper with smiles.
Jax climbed off his bike and took his sunglasses off before shaking Alvarez's hand. They'd met on neutral ground between Oakland and Charming.
"Jax, how's your family?" Alvarez asked with a smile. Jax nodded and shook his hand.
"Couldn't be much better. We're having a little girl in July. You've got three right?" Jax felt proud as he spoke about his family. Alvarez nodded with a proud smile.
"I do, brother, I do. You think boys are hard, wait til that little girl is begging you to take her to dance class." Alvarez said with a laugh as he and Jax made their way over to Clay.
Jax hadn't planned on the meet taking so long, but it was well worth it. The sun had already given way to the moon by the time SAMCRO headed back to Charming. The Mayans and the Sons were on good terms and had agreed to a ceasefire. Alvarez had pulled Jax aside towards the end and hinted at a more permanent peace being possible once he sat at the head of the table.
"Mack, I just got to the clubhouse." Jax said as he stretched and got of his bike. He was headed over to the car so he could go pick Mackenzie and Abel up.
"That's okay, Jax. He's already asleep and Jessie crashed here to. I'll just ride to the shop with Gemma in the morning. Have a boys night." Mackenzie said with a quiet laugh. She was lying in the guestroom with Abel and wanted to avoid waking him up.
"Alright, darlin'. Goodnight." Jax smiled and closed the phone before following Chibs into the clubhouse.
