Back! ok guys, so since i have such a small amount of time o work on this when I have internet access I'm going to be shortening the chapters, but it extends the fic so that's good for you guys. Updates are going to be slow but hey, at least I'm updating at all.

chapter 26

The ride to the beach with their friends had proven to be more of an irritation, if anything. Shinra kept rambling on and on and Shizuo could just tell Izaya was urging the little nerd on. But, Shizuo was glad to have this time with his friends so he didn't bother to complain. Kasuka was in the back with Celty and him and Kadota while Shinra and Izaya sat up front. The air was hot, the music blaring.

It felt nice to Shizuo, if he were to be perfectly honest with himself. He smiled, jerking when Kadota elbowed him. "What?"

The other teen gave him a half smile. "What are you smiling at, hm?"

Shizuo glanced away, shrugging. "...Today seems like it's going to be a good day, is all."

Kadota smiled back, looking out the window. "I agree with you there."

The ride took a few hours, the car ride full of jokes, music and conversation. It was nice and Izaya knew it'd be good for Shizuo. A little conversation and friendly bonding was certainly what the blonde needed. He kept glancing back to check on the blonde, delighted when he saw smiles on his lover's lips.

Arriving at the beach, they were over joyed to be the only ones there. The piled out of Kadota's van, carrying with them towels, back packs filled with sun screen and such, and Shizuo carrying the giant ice chest full of food and drinks. They settled on a spot, Shinra laying out a few towels and setting up an umbrella (Shizuo had a habit to complain about the heat after long periods of time).

Izaya let out a small sigh of content. "This is nice."

"Let's get in the water," Kadota smiled, shoving the black haired teen lightly.

Celty seemed to have the same thing in mind, unzipping her usual black leather suit to let it pool around her ankles, revealing her black bikini beneath. Shinra turned several shades red, fixing his glasses and turning away, but not before the others could snicker at him. Kadota, Shinra and Izaya tugged their shirts off, already in their swim trunks. Izaya smiled, tuning to Shizuo, but blinking when he saw the blonde hesitate, fingers gripping the edge of his shirt nervously. He walked over, head tilted. "Shizu-Chan? What's the matter?"

Shizuo hesitated, biting his lip. "...The scars..."

Right, how could Izaya have forgotten? He smiled slowly, touching Shizuo's cheek gently. "They won't care, Shizuo. It's alright."

Shizuo hesitated, looking away nervously. But, he knew Izaya was right. Those friends cared for him, why would they be here if they didn't?

With a sigh, Shizuo pulled his shirt off. Izaya almost licked his lips, but kept himself in check; there were others here, after all. He only smiled, taking Shizuo's hand and leading him towards the waiting ocean with a wide grin. "To the water we go!"

Shizuo rolled his eyes. "Flea..."

But Izaya was relentless, pulling the blonde into the cold water. Shizuo jerked at the cold feeling, pulling Izaya closer and shivering a bit. Izaya blinked before chuckling. "Cold?"

"Sh-shut up," Shizuo hissed, glancing away as he blushed. He took a few more moments to calm himself before he let go of his boyfriend to wade into the water.

Izaya smiled but then his eyes widened as he saw Kasuka, who had been wuiet the whoel time, running towards Shizuo with an evil grin. "Shizu-Chan-"

"Gah!" Shizuo flailed a bit as his little brother tackled him into the water, both of them going under. The others snickered and Shizuo came back up, gasping and then turning to glare at his smug brother. "You little..."

"Sorry, I slipped," Kasuka murmured innocently.

Shizuo glared. "Yeah, I'm sure..."

Everyone else got into the water and soon they were splashing and shoving and laughing. They were having fun. It made Shizuo's heart swell with warmth. With the summer sun beating down on them, the salty ocean air around them and their presence laced with nothing pure adoring love, it was bliss to the blonde. Even Celty was having fun, splashing at Shziuo and dunking Shinra when he got a little too touchy. All in all, it left a happiness int he blonde that Shizuo hadn't realized he was missing and...he liked it.

Izaya would occasionally pull Shizuo to himself, pressing kisses to whatever patch of skin he could without being too lewd and such, but that didn't stop Shizuo from blushing like mad. That earned him chuckles, though like that helped. After a good hour or so in the water Shizuo finally groaned, walking over and lying on the towel under the umbrella. The blonde yawned a bit to himself, closing his eyes. Inhaling the ocean air and enjoying the sun, he could have fallen asleep right then and there, but he heard someone walking over and could already guess who it was. "I'm fine, Flea."

Izaya chuckled, tilting his head. "An umbrella, Shizu-Chan? Scared of the sun?"

"I get sunburns easy," Shizuo muttered, huffing quietly as he sat up. He stared up at his lover, a small smile on his lips. He reached out his hand and Izaya took it, Shizuo pulling him down to sit by him. He leaned in to kiss the other's cheek, smiling again. "..Thanks for today."

Izaya smiled warmly. "I figured you'd enjoy a little friend time."

Shizuo nodded, looking over to watch his brother and the others splash around. A small smile formed on his lips, though he was slowly being filled with sadness.

He would miss this. He'd miss being here with Izaya and the others, enjoying life. He knew Izaya would miss it too, but...

He shook his head a little. Stop thinking for once, damn it.

Izaya seemed to notice, nudging Shizuo gently. "Hey. stop thinking things that make you sad. It's time to have fun, ne?"

Shizuo nodded. "Yeah, yeah..."

Izaya rolled his eyes a bit, reaching over to open the ice chest and pull out a soda that he handed to the blonde. "You haven't had your daily dose of sugar today, that's your problem."

Shizuo managed a small chuckle as he took the can, cracking it open and taking a drink. Izaya leaned against him, kissing his warm shoulder. "Stop thinking, ok? Just focus on all of us today. Ok?"

Shizuo nodded, smiling softly. "Ok, ok."

Izaya pulled Shizuo to his feet, towing him towards the water again. The next few hours were spent int he water, the teens laughing and Shinra being hit more than a couple times by Celty when he got just a little too touchy. When the sun started to go down, they all piled onto their towels, Celty making a fire in a make shift fire pit. The fire roaring, Shizuo leaned back into Izaya's chest, looking around. Kasuka was sitting between Shinra and Celty, laughing softly at something Shinra must have said. Kadota was lying lazily on his towel, staring at the flames in content. Shizuo smiled, yawning and running a hand through his damp hair. Shinra laughed, looking over towards Shizuo and Izaya. "So, what should we do now?"

Izaya hummed, his chin on Shizuo's shoulder. "Well...we can just all talk, ne?"

"Talk, hm," Kadota sat up a bit, tilting his head. "Ok, then let's talk about...good things about this school year. I'll start." He paused, thinking. "...The best thing about this school year was...actually passing and...being able to watch my friends progress too."

"Cheesy," Kasuka snickered.

"Oh?" Kadota huffed. "What about you, pretty boy?"

Kasuka hummed, glancing at Shizuo and then smiling. "...The best thing about this school year was watching my brother be happy, finally."

Shziuo blushed a bit, glancing away as the others let out a collective, "Awww."

Shinra smiled, sitting up straighter and grinning. "My turn! Ok, well...In all honesty I think the best thing about this school year was bringing Izaya. School got a lot more interesting after that."

"Well, I am awesome," Izaya smiled, waving the comment off.

Celty held up her PDA. I didn't go to school, but the best thing about the year so far as been just being able to see you all grow.

"Aww, Celty!" Shinra cried, smiling. "That's so sweet!"

The black wisps of Celty's shifted, as if she would be rolling her eyes if she had a head. Eyes turned to Izaya who tilted his head. "My turn, eh? Ok, ok. Let me think..." He thought for a second before twining his fingers with Shizuo's. "I think the best thing about this school year was meeting the love of my life and giving him a reason to smile again."

Shizuo blushed harder than earlier, his hand squeezing Izaya's a bit more. All eyes were on him now and he hesitated, clearing his throat. "...There...wasn't a lot about this year...or the previous ones I liked. But...after this moron," He jabbed Izaya lightly with his elbow. "...After he showed up I...I started to see things a bit different. For a long time I was...pretty damn blind. I didn't want to see anything happy in life but...but after Izaya hat changed. So...there are two things I think were the best about this school year. The first being...Izaya himself..." He blushed when Izaya pressed a kiss to his neck gently. He cleared his throat, sighing. "And the second being...all the times I've had to be with all of you. It...makes me happy to be with the people I love."

The smiles on the other's faces had Shizuo's blush deepening and he looked away, huffing. "Idiots..."

"That was sweet," Kasuka smiled, running a hand through his hair.

"Shut up," Shizuo huffed, but he smiled.

They burst into laughter, the fire roaring and their laughs dying into the night.

Shizuo was going to remember this more than anything else.
