Tomorrow couldn't arrive any faster. That night, though a short one in reality, was long in the minds of the immortals.
Joan was up all night worried about Germain. She hadn't slept much since the incident, and it was wearing on her. In her over-tired state, she was beginning to fret and worry more than she usually would have; she was Joan of Arc after all. But, losing Germain after spending millennia with him… that was too much for her too dare think about.
Sophie spent the night thinking. She had always been a thoughtful and observant person, and now she had lots to mull over in her mind while she had the chance. She was worried about Germain of course, he had always been a good friend and father figure, but she was also worried about her brother. Josh was becoming more and more distant after landing in New Zealand, and though she knew it was his nature, she couldn't help but worry.
She also thought about Scathach, her dear friend, who had changed after reuniting with Josh. Sophie had noticed, even if Scatty and Josh hadn't. She also noticed their reactions to meeting Virginia and Billy. Sophie smiled to herself at the thought of this, she remembered when they had first met Nicholas and Scatty, and that Josh had then had a crush on her. She wondered what was happening in their heads and hearts now.
But most of all, Sophie endlessly thought about motives. What would drive an Elder to kidnap Germain? Not a petty argument, the Elders were above that. But even so, she found it odd that both Nyx and her lover Erebos were their two suspects in the case of Germain, the goddess of night and the god of darkness and shadows.
Scathach paced. Back and forth, back and forth, she couldn't sleep. She was worried for her friend, and she was prepared for the coming battle and filled with too much adrenaline. And because she was a vampire, of course.
But Scatty was also confused. Josh was a puzzle to her, Billy the Kid brought up questionable memories, and Virginia Dare made her territorial of those she cared about. She did lots of thinking that night, not stopping to meditate to calm herself, but to pace relentlessly and think and think and think. She tried to explain to herself why she was acting this way, why she was feeling so protective in the face of danger, namely Dare.
So Scathach the Warrior Maid paced, back and forth, until the sun rose, where she prepared for the coming battle.
Josh, on the other hand, sat on the floor and mediated. For hours, he simply was, sorting through things in his mind, dealing with his duties remotely and siphoning through information. His companions ran through his mind, Joan, Sophie, Billy, Scatty, and Virginia. His thoughts whirled around like a top until he was able to tie down the things he most needed to understand. He prepared a plan, he prepared a backup battle plan, and he pondered over the peculiar cases of Scathach and Virginia.
Scathach the Warrior Maid, The Shadow, The Daemon Slayer, and one of his closest friends, if he could count her as that. He had always admired her, ever since the day they met, and he did even more now. Seeing her in action, seeing her with his sister, and seeing her alone, pensive, and waiting. Her grace, stealth, and tough demeanour made her all the more impressive to Josh, and he admired her for that.
Virginia Dare was another story. Josh couldn't pin point how he felt about her. She was the wild card, the one who had joined up with Dee and carried out those horrible deeds with her flute. He made a note to ask her about her flute more in depth.
He had spent time with her throughout the years, travelling and fighting monsters, but she always had somewhere else to go, someone else to see, and Josh, being who he was, knew that those appointments were more pressing than that of the man whom she still considered a teenage boy that was once swayed by Dark Magic. Even still, he also admired Virginia Dare, but in a different way than Scatty. Where Scatty had stealth and grace, Virginia had a sort of finesse to the way she worked. The only problem Josh had was figuring out what it all meant, his companions, their quest, and their actions.
The four immortals thought until the sun rose. They each had such a different burden to bear on their shoulders, and all of their thoughts in their heads. But oddly enough, they had spent the night in silence, all in the same room.
A/N: Just a short filler chapter, just to give you something before I stop writing for now and start studying. Hope you enjoy!
