Hi all. So I've decided I will at least complete all my HIMYM stories at least then go back to every other one I've begun and maybe do those too.
Anyways to thehopefulone Ted isn't going to be any nicer this chapter. But don't hate him, he's human and scared. As title said, it's a long road to healing. This is still just my own idea on what could have happened if Ted was hit by the bus instead and forced to confront Barney again.
"But you're going to make this difficult for him aren't you?" Lily asked and Ted only sighed unable to shrug his shoulders.
"I do miss the knucklehead Lil" he stated and stopped. "But you're just not sure you can trust him again" Robin finished.
He gazed at her lovingly. "No…I can't…I want to but…" he stammered and then sighed again. She gently stroked his fingers. "I'm really trying to understand this Ted but…I don't" Robin told him.
"I haven't blamed you for this because I knew you were upset that night Robin. I didn't say anything because I'm your ex and I thought I'd make you even more uncomfortable" he explained.
"I guess you got to know me pretty well" Robin said and he smiled. "I'm glad Barney was there to comfort you Robin, I don't even care that much you two had sex" Ted replied.
"Well thanks for that I guess" she said and he gave a small chuckle. "I am sorry if you think I'm being a jerk Robin but I promise you I'm not. I didn't blame you because you didn't deserve any blame. We were broken up a year now and you had every right to have sex with anyone" Ted answered.
"So this really is about that code huh?" Lily asked. "Oh and why are you only telling us this now?" she added.
"You say that like it's been a lifetime Lily. It's only been two weeks" Ted answered.
"That is a lifetime between best friends Ted" she replied.
He gave her a small apologetic smile. "You're right and I'm sorry Lil…" he answered and just sighed again. "I guess I just didn't think it mattered why we weren't friends. I never thought I'd ever have to speak to him again" he added.
"Then why did you…"
"Because I guess I do actually still care about him…" Ted answered cutting her off.
"No one forced you…" Lily said softly and Ted sighed dramatically. "I know that Lil, that's what pisses me off even more. I do stuff for him and I end up getting hurt for my troubles" he replied cutting her off again.
Ted took another dramatic sigh. "Listen girls and please don't interrupt. On my birthday two weeks ago Barney picked me up in the limo and was going to take me to Vegas. I knew he was doing it out of guilt since Robin told me what happened. So I confronted him and he joked about it like it was no big deal" He explained.
"You just said…" Robin said and Ted sighed again. "I meant that Robin. I just couldn't believe my so called best friend broke the bro code he made me follow like the bible. Then he has the nerve to joke about it which pissed me off even more. So yeah, while I'm stuck in this bed with just about every bone in my body broken, I will make Barney Stinson work his ass off" Ted replied.
"I've heard enough Marshall" Barney whispered. Ted and the girls didn't know it but the man had heard the entire conversation. When Marshall carried him outside Barney begged him to eavesdrop by the door. Marshall did it mostly out of curiosity.
Barney looked so broken that Marshall felt sorry for him. "It's going to be okay Barney" he whispered and Barney nodded.
"Of course it will be Marshall" he answered putting on a brave face. "I'm Barney Stinson, I'm the master of manipulation and magic. I will get Teddy boy back because I'm Awe…wait for it…some" he said cheekily.
"Of course you will" Marshall told him and finally left for his room so Barney could rest.
"Don't be too hard on him Ted, that's all I ask" Robin replied after a minute of soaking it all in. Ted gave a tiny nod her way. "That mean you don't hate me now for sounding like an ass?" he asked.
"No, I don't hate you Ted, you have the right to be angry with Barney and I have a feeling you will forgive him eventually, that's one of the reasons I fell for you, you have a good heart" she told him.
"Thanks…I think I'll take a nap now before Barney returns to try and regain my friendship" he said.
"Okay, we'll be back later to check on you" Lily said and gave him a small kiss on his forehead.
