Barney did come back a couple of hours later. Ted woke up to the sound of the TV and opened his eyes. Barney had been okayed to leave by the doctor so decided to visit his best friend again.
"What the hell are you doing?" Ted asked with irritation. "Finding my best friend a good show to watch" Barney said with a small smile as he flipped through the channels.
"Marshall is my best friend" Ted corrected. "Ted…"
"Saying my name with a hurt tone doesn't work Stinson. My best friend will always have my back not stab me in the back" Ted replied.
"Okay…you're still angry and not thinking correctly" Barney rationalized and Ted rolled his eyes.
"And maybe you're just an idiot" he muttered. Barney put on a hurt face and Ted felt a tiny bit bad. He couldn't apologize though, Barney deserved to be punished so Ted kept his gaze neutral.
'Damn, he's really not budging about this whole I hate you business' Barney thought.
"Okay Ted, what can I do then to become your best friend again?" he asked settling for a new tactic.
"Get me some water" Ted answered. Barney nodded eagerly and left the room to the cafeteria.
When Barney got back Ted looked at the glass and sighed. "What? Something wrong bro?" Barney asked.
"I like crushed ice better" Ted answered. Barney nodded and left. When he got back Ted changed his mind about the ice.
Barney got two glasses then with both kinds of ice. Ted took a sip from a straw from the crushed ice glass. He made a face of disgust.
"Not good water?"
"It's okay I guess, I think I want soda now"
"Uh…which kind?" Barney asked and Ted shrugged. This made the blonde man go to the cafeteria four more times with different sodas as he carried two different ones a trip.
Ted now had eight soda's he liked and two glasses of water. "Thanks for all the drinks but I'm kinda hungry now" Ted answered.
"I'll ask the nurses…"
"I don't want this food Barney" Ted answered cutting him off. Barney turned with a miserable look on his face. "Of course you don't" he said and Ted sighed.
"Forget it, I mean I'd have done it for you…" he muttered and Barney gave out a tiny sigh.
"I mean of course you don't Ted, this food isn't that good" he said in a nicer and more enthusiastic tone.
Barney walked to Ted and fluffed his pillows. "Let's just make you comfy while I'm gone" he said. Ted rolled his eyes again as Barney stroked his hair.
"Just go Barney" he hissed and Barney backed away. He left the room and got Ted a sandwich. Ted of course decided then he didn't want his favorite and got Barney to get him a meatball hero instead of chicken parmigiana hero like he always had.
Barney nodded and left the sandwich and went out to get the correct one. He fed Ted and then ate the other sandwich.
By the time Barney left he had made about fifty trips for his friend. He went to Lily and Marshall's and collapsed on their couch.
"I told you not to strain yourself" Marshall scolded. "I had to Marshall, you know that" he hissed.
"Did it work?" Lily asked. Barney shrugged. "He thanked me when he saw I was getting tired. He then just said see you tomorrow and closed his eyes" he answered.
"That doesn't really sound like Ted" Lily answered.
"I must have rubbed off on him because he sounds like me" Barney replied and closed his eyes. He was asleep in seconds and the couple shared a worried look.
"I'll talk to Ted about this tomorrow" Marshall whispered as he lifted Barney and took him to Ted's room. He laid him in Ted's bed and covered his friend with the blanket.
"Just don't make him angry with you as well" Lily warned. Marshall nodded and took her hand and led her to their room letting their friend sleep.
