13. Ash
He was smoke and fire.
She was lemon and ice.
She hated cigarettes and so did he. They came together in a moment of reckless abandon that was characteristic of him and out of this world for her.
She was responsible – a prefect, Head Girl, known for being studious and a prig. He was wild – a bully, prankster, and known for being overly zealous over Quidditch and an arrogant prat. But he was also Head Boy and she had pulled a few of her own pranks over the years that left him speechless and breathless and head over heels for her. His smile left her weak in the knees. Her laugh made his heart race.
They were drawn together before they even knew who the other was. When they met, it was an unstoppable force meeting an unmovable object, but neither one knew which was which. Both were unmovable. Both were unstoppable. When they met on the battlefield of petty arguments, the fireworks rained down leaving the air smelling of smoke and ash. When they came together in moments of reckless abandon, the fire that raged between them left them consumed, exhausted, and marked for life.
Her lips were velvet that tasted of sugar-coated lemon and everything that good girls should taste like. His lips were wind-chapped that tasted of blood and smoke and everything that the bad boys tasted like and that the good girls were to stay away from. But she wasn't a "good girl" and he wasn't a "bad boy" and like it or not, they were meant for each other. Rough scraped against soft as calloused hands explored new contours. They came together in a moment of passion and love that would forever change the world and they never even knew it because he was Just James and she was Only Lily and they hated each other, except that they didn't.
But for now, it was their first kiss and it was messy and awkward, except that it was perfect. He held her up when she grew weak in the knees and she rested her hand against his chest to feel his racing heart. It was overly clichéd and the thing of badly written rom-coms, but to each of them, it was the best day of their young lives so far.
