A/N: Wow! Thanks for the reviews! So close to fifty! Okay, so… Lame news- my school starts back Wednesday. Tomorrow. Now, I have no clue how it'll affect the already hectic updates! This is a new school for me- I just moved schools- but what I know from it, it's different from the other schools I went to. So, as for right now, updates will vary from day-to-day, week-to-week. Eventually, they will have a more normal schedule, I promise! I just… Don't know when that'll be.
Okay, now, a lot of you have asked for Jacob. I have him right here. This is probably a slow chapter, but I tried my best. Enjoy!
*Disclaimer: I do not own the Twilight Saga!*
Chapter 16: Boy Problems (JPOV) {Jacob}
I climbed the stairs to the Cullen house. I'd just left from running the patrol, again, and was wiped out. I could hear the couch calling my name.
Since Nessie had come back, I was staying with the Cullens every chance I got. But that didn't mean that I got to see her any more than what I had the last two years. Whenever I usually got back from patrol, she was asleep, and whenever she woke up, it was me sleeping. Not a great routine we had going.
I didn't knock, like I hadn't in years. All the Cullens were in the living room, minus Edward and Bella- though I had a clue as to where they were.
Blondie was sitting on Emmett's lap, flipping through the channels on the TV, Alice and Esme were leaning some magazines laid on the coffee table, while Carlisle and Jasper were deep in conversation on the couch.
As I walked in, Blondie looked up.
She growled. "Who let the dog in?"
I grinned, thinking of the newest blonde joke that I'd found. "Hey, Blondie, why couldn't the blonde call 911?" I gave her time to answer, but she just growled again. "She couldn't find the eleven."
Emmett looked over at me with a laugh. "That's a good one!"
I bowed, elegantly. "I try," I grinned, and sat down on the loveseat. "Where's Ness?"
"Upstairs," Blondie answered.
"Yeah… Her 'date' didn't go so well." Emmett finger-quoted the word "date," rolling his eyes. "That guy didn't deserve her, anyway."
"Woah, woah, woah. Nessie had a date?" I snarled the word.
"Yep… Some guy named Nikolas De Luca. Apparently, he's the only friend she made today." Emmett shook his head, rubbing Blondie's thigh. "Bastard just ditched her in the restaurant."
I growled. "He just… left her? In a strange city?"
Emmett nodded, his own anger showing. "Yes. They got into a fight… She wouldn't tell us about what."
I stood up, and half-jogged upstairs.
Composing my anger enough to not break down her door, or begin yelling, I knocked, hoping she was awake. I could hear her shuffle out of bed, so I assumed she was.
When she opened the door, she was clearly shocked.
"Jacob. What are you doing here?" she asked, her blondish-bronze curls pulled back away her face with the elastic headband she always seemed to wear. She had on sweats that Alice had begrudgingly let her keep, a grey off-the-shoulder shirt whose sleeves stopped at her elbows, and a pair of grey sweat pants.
She was breathtakingly beautiful.
I smiled sympathetically; my anger had vanished once I saw her. "I heard about your date."
"It wasn't a date." she interrupted, exasperated. Guess she'd had to explain that difference a lot tonight.
"Well, then I heard about your 'not-a-date.'" My smiled widened, before dropping back down. "You wanna talk about it?"
Nessie looked at me for a few moments before opening the door, which she'd had almost ready to slam in my face, further and taking a step back, allowing me to come in. I grinned at her, and walked in.
"Who told you? Edward? Emmett?" she asked, shutting the door and walking towards her bed. She sat down on the edge, gripping it until her knuckles turned white.
I just stood by the door.
"Emmett." I chuckled. "What happened, Ren? Whose ass do I have to kick?" Anger suddenly flared up again. I took a deep breath.
"It was stupid… We were playing that game Twenty Questions, and he answered one question a little weird… It didn't make any sense, so I kept questioning him about it. Then, he just… left." she explained fast.
"What was the question?" I asked, sitting down on her rug at her feet.
She explained everything about this… Not-a-Date from start to finish. Apparently, the kid's name was Nikolas De Luca. He was Italian, emancipated, eighteen, and really cryptic. She told me about the way he'd asked her very inappropriate things, and flirted with the waitresses.
"Looking back on it, you could tell that he was trying hard to do something… Or whatever. I just don't know what he was trying to accomplish."
"He's a teenage boy, Ren. Nobody knows what they're doing." I smiled, and got a laugh out of her.
"True. But… It was almost like he was trying too hard… Like… It was what he thought was expected of him, so he did it."
"Ahh… It was too fake."
"Exactly!" She sighed and ran her hands through her tangled hair, a habitat that she'd picked up from her father, whether she remembered that or not.
Do not think of her father while you're in her room- alone- trying to help her through her- gulp- boy problems.
While I'd been in my thoughts, she'd fallen back on her bed.
"I don't know what to do…" she sighed again.
"I don't know what to tell ya, Ness." Damn it! "I don't know if he'll tell you the truth or not, if you brought it up again… But then again, I haven't met the guy, so…" I trailed off.
"I get it…" she replied, and sat up, putting her hands in her lap and swinging her legs. "Damn, I wish you would have been here to meet him." Nessie grinned evilly. "Emmett, Jasper, and Edward sure did a number on him, but it would've been a helluva lot of fun if you'd been there, too."
I grinned. "As much as that sounds fun, it's probably a good thing I wasn't there. I'm not a very… Hospitable… When it comes to boys-" I emphasised the word, "-that might potentially hurt someone I care deeply about." I froze.
What. The. Fuck. Did. I. Just. Do.
A/N: I know- sucky way to end it considering I don't know when I'll be able to write or update again, but… :)
As always, a big thanks goes out to Dawn for helping me decide what this chapter should consist of!
I forgot about this too, so… Might as well do it, haha. My favorite line is…: "Do not think of her father while you're in her room- alone- trying to help her through her- gulp- boy problems."
Laters baby,
~Em
