❅(Jack's POV)❅

Cyndra's form slowly rises up from the ground, the wind encircling her smallish frame, blowing her stunning brown hair back and showing the pure fire in her dark brown eyes. Looking directly down upon me, she begins speaking with a very amplified and drastically upset and pained voice. "It was fated for this to happen and I was predestined for the role I play," She stops and her voice steadily becomes softer as she slowly floats back down to the ground. "It was meant to be, Jack. It will never be your fault."
Her gaze shifts to all of the other guardians' and in turn shifts back to mine. Freezing on my eyes, she holds her gaze for less than a second before a light in her eyes goes out and she begins to collapse to the ground. Luckily, she was barely further than an arm's length away, and I caught her easily. Cradling her against me, I feel her heart rate slow to a normal pace, and watch her breathing slow into the one of a sleeping child. She looks so innocent and pure in the light of the now bright moon, like she was made to bask in the moonlight. As if she was made from the rays of the moon itself.
No shadows were cast upon us as I held her in the bright white luminescence of the moon. Her steady breathing the soul sound in the piercing silence. Nothing stirred from the surprised trance that Cyndra put us in. No sound, no movement, no emotion. Just the steady intake of Cyndra's breath and the small movements she made in her unconscious state.
"Well, we can't stay stunned by this all night, we won't get answers until she wakes up anyway. Sandy and Tooth have jobs to do, North should be working on the toys for Christmas, and Bunny should be working on Easter eggs for the coming Easter. We don't have the leisure to be standing like this for long." Someone had to break the spell, may as well be me. "I'm taking Cyndra to rest in a bed for the night, somewhere that's not in the infirmary, then I'm going to watch her. We can't stop doing what needs to be done because she's hurt."
Tooth picks this time to speak up in a very mothering tone. "But, Jack, we have to make sure that both of you are safe, not just her. You said so yourself. Please let us help, I know you can't do this on your own. I don't think any of us can. We won't stop working, just like you said, but you might need our help. Sandy and I can both govern our jobs from here, and both Bunny and North have some spare time. Jack, it will take all of us to keep you both safe, especially since we don't know exactly who our enemies are, guess or not."
Bunny takes half a step forward and begins to speak. "She's right, Jack. We can still help. You can take the sheila to bed, but you might want some sleep too. You look tired as all get out. If you want you can stay in the same room, but don't wear yourself thin, or you won't be able to help her at all, and with what we just saw, we may need all the help we can get to go against the person who hurt her."
I glance up at Bunny.
"You really do care, don't you? Not just about me, but about this whole situation?"
Bunny glances down at me, looking struck that I would even ask. " Jack, she's as much a child as any we protect, and so are you. She's in a situation that can end up physically harming the two of you, and as guardians, we can't let that happen. Followed by he fact that she just did something that should be physically impossible for a mortal girl. She must be more than we think if she can do that. We are made to protect children, and right now, I know two of them that need some protecting." He smiles a soft smile, making sure that I know he truly does care.
I smile back and look at the girl I hold in my arms. "She's something, alright. I just can't believe that she's caught up in this mess because-"
Before I can finish, Tooth cuts the rest of my sentence off. "Jack. You know what she told you. She wouldn't want you blaming yourself any more than you already have been. She doesn't want to see you hurt."
"I know. Let's just get her to bed."
Following North, I hold Cyndra close as we near an area of the pole that houses all guests at the North Pole. Currently unoccupied, each room held two beds and a large dresser. A chair sat by each window and a table was set off to the side.
North leads me into a room at the end of the hallway, farthest from the doors of the Pole.
'"Jack, this is where you and Cyndra will be located until this is all over. She is welcome to do to the room what she likes, after all, once she entered the pole this room chose to bend to her wishes. When she awakens, make sure that she knows she is welcome. Bunny will be in here to watch you, and then I shall leave. Goodnight, Jack."
We walk into the room. Placing Cyndra on the bed to the right, I unfold the covers and tuck her in. Floating to the other bed, I lay down and watch Cyndra from where I am. North keeps standing in the doorway, watching over both of us.
"... North? Are you sure that we are safe at the pole? Shouldn't we go to like, the warren or something?"
"She is fine, here, Jack. We shall watch over both of you. There is no need to worry."
"But what if something goes wrong? What if they come before she's healed? What if-"
"Jack, no time to be playing game of what if. You need sleep because you have to help her understand everything in this world, everything that is going on. She will want to know."
"Alright, but I'm not sleeping right away. I want to watch over Cyndra for a while, then I'll let Bunny take over. "
Walking over to Cyndra, I run a pale hand through her dark brown hair, watching her prone form slowly relax into the blue colored bed that she's in.
I lean down and whisper in her ear. "I'm sorry that you are here because of me. I'm sorry that you are being chased by beings that you can't quite understand. I'm sorry I left you on your own, but not all of it is my fault. That's what you told me, so I have to believe it, right?"
"Stop... worrying... Jack. Go... go to... sleep." Cyndra mumbles back at me.
When did she...?
"Mate, let the girl be and get some sleep. You need it as much as she does. You've been running around non-stop for her sake, but she would be upset to find out that you weren't doing everything you could for yourself, too. It's just the way she is."
"Fine, Bunny. I will. I just want to make sure nothing else happens to her."
"It's too late for that, mate. We don't even know how long she will have to be here because of her recent display, but she will be fine. Just get some sleep so you can be right back at protecting her." He smiles at me.
I climb back into the other bed, just laying on top of the covers and resting my head on the pillow.
Within minutes the outlines of objects blur and I fall into sleep.
