Gwydre at 16 and Llacheu at 9 years old
The day has finally come, the day that Gwydre has finally dreamed of happening. Today was the day that he would be known as a true knight. He would be known as Sir Gwydre Thomas of Camelot. This day would serve as a memory that he has accomplished something worth cherishing. And because of this, there is a feast to be held as a celebration of Gwydre becoming a knight.
In his chambers, Gwydre was preparing for the knighting ceremony to be held in the throne room and Llacheu was keeping him company. Ever since Llacheu was born, they've been the best of friends, no one could tear them apart. It felt like they knew each other for a very long time and because of this, the king and queen never had a problem of them having the possibility to fight with each other. Now, even if they're seven years apart, they continue to have their own bond as brothers. But sometimes, things weren't always easy for Llacheu.
Ever since Llacheu started to be aware, he was given the knowledge that his brother would be inheriting the throne when the time comes. He always supported Gwydre through everything that he does. He always listened to him and he understood him. When Gwydre was being reprimanded for his wrong doings, Llacheu was always there to comfort him. Llacheu was never one to be in trouble but, Gwydre always had Llacheu keep secrets of where he's gone to or what he's doing when they were younger. Gwydre has always been the one wanting to go to an adventure, while Llacheu has been the one having an adventure in his mind with his imagination through reading books. Llacheu became very fond of books since he began to be educated by Merlin. Even if they had finished their sessions, he would still continue reading and it came to the point where he wouldn't stop reading a book until he finished it. This never became a problem to the king and queen because they thought that it's nice for Llacheu to have such interest in books, especially books about their kingdom. They thought that maybe, Llacheu was meant for other things. It's not that they don't think of Llacheu as a potential king of Camelot, but they think that Llacheu wants something else.
Sadly for them, they were wrong. Even at a young age, Llacheu seemed intellectual and mature enough to be aware of everything that's happening. Now that he's older, he often thought about the future of Camelot if he became king . He thought about the laws he would make if he was king. But he never questioned why he was not chosen to be king. But because it was Gwydre, he chose to give his support and love for him. He chose to set aside his inner feelings to be the brother that Gwydre needed. At often times where Gwydre feels like he could hardly breathe because of what people may expect him to be, Llacheu was his companion. When he was afraid of speaking to his mother or father, Llacheu was there for him and he was grateful for that.
Llacheu knew in his heart that he would always keep wondering why but for now, he needed to be there for his brother. He needed to give him strength.
In Gwydre's chambers, he and Llacheu are preparing for the ceremony and knowing Gwydre, he was nervous once again.
"I don't know if I could do this Llacheu. What if I trip while I walk or what if-" Gwydre's words were interrupted by Llacheu.
"What if you stop worrying yourself? You should be excited, not nervous. You just have to walk normally and kneel in front of father, really." Llacheu said chuckling, knowing that Gwydre could be very nervous when he feels like it.
Gwydre sighed deeply and nodded "You're right. I should be excited." he said, still shivering a moment, thinking that his dream of being a knight will soon become a reality.
While Llacheu watches Gwydre be nervous, Merlin came into the chambers and walked up to them.
"The king and queen awaits, gentlemen." Merlin said with a slight nod and smirk.
"Of course. Thank you, Merlin." Gwydre said nervously.
"Well, I believe I must go now. I'll tell Mother and Father you'll be there soon." Llacheu said while walking out of the chambers, leaving Merlin and Gwydre.
After a while, Gwydre began to speak.
"… Merlin, can I ask you something?" he asked, wondering if it was right to say what was on his mind.
"Of course, Sire." Merlin answered, wondering what's on Gwydre's mind.
"Did my father ever tell you… what it was like when he became a knight?" he asked, eager to know his father's experiences as a young lad.
"Well… he never told me. Perhaps he said this to your mother, you should ask her... but, I do know that in ceremonies like this, he becomes awfully nervous… just like what you are now." Merlin smirked when he saw the look in Gwydre's eyes.
"Is it really that obvious?" Gwydre asked, eyes wide open.
"It is, Sire but I believe you should know that you are to become a knight. You've proved yourself worthy of being one. We're all proud of you, Sire." Merlin said to him, trying to give him a sense of calmness.
He sees Gwydre's face soften and smiled slightly.
"Thank you, Merlin. You know aside from mother, you really do know how handle situations like this." Gwydre said as he clapped Merlin's back and smirked.
"Very well. Now I believe you do have a knighting ceremony to attend to, My Lord." Merlin said as he bowed his head and gestured to the door.
"Thank you, Merlin." Gwydre said, knowing that this day forward, he'll be known as a true knight.
He gave Merlin's shoulder a gentle squeeze and started walking out the door.
"From this day henceforth, you will be known as Sir Gwydre, Knight of Camelot."
Everyone rejoiced as the king said these words, especially Gwydre himself. His dream came true. He finally became a knight. He couldn't believe what he had heard from his father's lips.
As he stood up, Arthur gave him a hug and whispered "I'm proud of you, Gwydre."
As they pulled away, Gwydre felt his eyes wet with joyful tears "Thank you, father."
"Now, as a knight of Camelot, I expect you to attend in training sessions on time. If not…" his father glared at him for a moment then slowly turned into a smile and laughed, wondering why his father had such a reaction.
"You are to fight a single combat against your father." Arthur squeezed his son's shoulder when he saw the look in his eyes.
As Gwydre learned that his father was kidding at the moment, his face softened and laughed with him. He always knew that somehow, his father would always look after him.
After the festive celebration, Gwydre bid his parents and Llacheu goodnight and walked to his chambers happily. Never would he forget how Merlin and his brother helped him through this challenge.
