It was morning again and we were still walking on the train tracks. I held Cold with one hand and carried a bag with the other.
"I think we got about a day's worth of water left." Rick said from in front of me. "We're lucky it's cooled off a little bit, but..."
He stopped and looked behind me at Carl and Michonne walking on the rails, "What are you doing?"
"Winning a bet." Carl answered.
"In your dreams." Michonne replied.
"I'm still on." Carl said before almost falling.
"Ha ha. You spoke too soon, wise guy." Michonne laughed.
"This might go on a while." Rick stated. "Maybe we can speed this up."
"Yeah, you're right. Shouldn't be fooling around." Michonne agreed. "We should probably- Carl!"
At her attempt to get Carl off the rail, Michonne fell off and Jamie laughed.
"I win." Carl said. "Pay up."
Michonne went into her bag and pulled out two candy bars. One was in her hand, and the other was held out to Carl.
"Is that really the last Big Cat?" Carl asked before reaching for it.
"Oh, come on." Michonne whined.
"Hey, but you said winner's choice." Carl smiled.
"Go ahead, take it. It's yours." Michonne gave him the candy before putting the red one back in her bag, "You won it fair and square."
Carl took it out of its packaging and held one half out to Michonne, "Come on, we always share."
"Fork it over." Michonne joked before taking the half.
We traveled for the next eight hours before going into the woods to sleep. We set up a barrier before making a fire and some food. Rick even set up some snares so we can catch animals. Jamie slept next to me that night, and Colt was on my stomach. I had to keep them warm, it was getting colder everyday.
"How hungry are you, scale of one to ten?" Rick asked the next morning as we packed up.
"15." Carl answered.
"28."
"45." Jamie mumbled.
"22." I said.
"Yeah, well, it's been a while." Rick replied, "I'm gonna go check the snares."
"Can I go with you?" Carl asked.
"Well, how else are you gonna learn?" Rick responded before looking at me, "Can you and Colt be okay to stay alone?"
I smiled and nodded, "I'll be fine, Rick. You four go and catch us something."
They left and I sighed. I started packing thing's up and I heard Colt whimper. I turned around and saw him sitting up, looking ready to cry.
"What's the matter?" I asked as I picked him up.
I changed his diaper and continued to clean up. After a few minutes I heard Rick,
"Grab your stuff! Let's go!"
I hurriedly put two bags on my shoulders before grabbing Colt and we ran to the train tracks. I heard snarling and I saw walkers behind us. But we had to stop because there were four in front of us, too. Rick grabbed his gun and ran up to the first walker and smashed its head in before moving on to another one.. I hiked Colt up a bit more before grabbing my knife.
"Jamie, stay close." I told my kid.
We eventually lost the walkers and started following Michonne down a street, "Thought maybe there'd be some houses down this way. Maybe even a store. There's got to be some food around here somewhere."
"Hey, look." Carl pointed out a broken down car.
We looked it over, making sure there wasn't any walkers before we decided to stop here. I went out to hunt and came back about an hour later with another rabbit and a few squirrels. We all ate that night.
Carl was now sleeping in the front seat and Jamie and Colt were sleeping in the back. I gave them all of the blankets to make sure they were warm.
"Those were some small animals." Rick commented.
"It was something." Michonne replied. "Gotta admit. They traveled well."
"Have you noticed that that's all we talk about anymore? Food." Rick said. "I forgot what this feels like."
"Me, too." I replied. "I hope we're able to forget again soon."
"We're close." Rick said as he put the small fire out, "Just got to make it through another day. If folks there are taking people in, they have to be strong. They have to have a system."
I stood up and wiped my jeans off, "I'll be back."
"Where you goin'?" Rick asked.
"Bathroom. Don't worry I got my gun and my knife." I answered before going into the woods.
After I finished and pulled up my pants I felt arms grab at me, "Shhh."
"Ri-!" I tried to yell but they put their hand over my mouth.
"Tony, keep her there. We'll go get the other ones." The gray haired man ordered before the others left.
I watched as the men left and I bit on Tony's hand.
"Ah! Stupid bitch!" He yelled and let me go.
I fell to the ground and I grabbed my gun from my waistband. He grabbed his gun and aimed it at me, but before he could shoot I shot him. He screamed in pain and I scrambled to stand up and run further into the woods without checking if I killed him or not.
I kept running, having no idea where. I checked my gun as I ran and noticed I used my last bullet on Tony. Shit. I grabbed my knife and looked behind me and that was my mistake.
My foot got caught and I fell down. I let out a small yell of pain as I fell and my knife dropped from my grip. I laid there for a moment, breathing heavily as my ankle throbbed.
I don't know how long I was there until I heard snarling. I looked up and saw, surprisingly, a walker Tony coming towards me. I sat up and looked around for my knife and I saw it a few feet away. I moved to get up, but I couldn't. I looked down at my foot and noticed it stuck in a tree root.
Tony was coming closer and I tried to get my foot free while reaching for my knife. Even closer now, I tried desperately to get my knife. I even started crying. I turned back around and Tony fell on top of me. I screamed and kept my arm under his chin to keep him from biting me.
Am I gonna die?
