Chapter 21
Welcome back! Now last chapter really blew up the reviews :o
I got much positive as well as negative feedback and that made me want to announce something.
I got this story planned out since the very beginning. Since the very first chapter, I knew how I would write the things happening at this point of the story. So I didn't 'decide to make Hinata the villain' and 'ruined a good NaruSaku story' by doing that. I had already planned this all in my little twisted mind before I even had the idea to write a fanfiction.
And for those who will stop reading my story because I seemingly made Hinata the bad guy – go ahead. What – you think I am going to cry now? Of course, it is a shame that you let something like this stop you from reading a story, but oh well. It happened to me many times that I read Yaoi fics where Sakura was portrayed as a very bad person (uncensored version), but that didn't stop me, even though I like her very much.
So do whatever you want, because I plainly .give. .*bleep*. I wish I could explain, but I would spoiler this story if I did that so please bear with me, ne? :)
Why do I always ramble so much? Gawd.
So, I hope you enjoy this chapter and see you later~
Naruto looked at his wife with a horrified expression and wanted to speak up, when Sakura gave him a kiss on the cheek, efficiently silencing him. Naruto just mutely looked at her with a pained look, but then turned to his father angrily.
"Fine. Since you clearly won't let us be, I will help her. But only for three weeks, so that we can gain the basics. I really do not have more time to spare." He held Sakura's hand under the table and she replied with a firm squeeze.
Minato smirked.
Everything was going according to plan.
Needless to say, Naruto and Sakura left his parents' house rather tired and exhausted. Once they were outside, Sakura let out a deep sigh and looked at Naruto with a pitiful face. He turned to her and took her smaller hands into his own.
"Sakura, please don't be mad. I had no choice – please try to understand!"
Sakura just shook her head. "Naruto I am not angry. Why should I be angry at you? It is not like you asked to help Hinata-san. And… I trust you." Sakura raised her hand to push his bangs to the side in order to be able to see his blue eyes better. She gave him a soft smile and in the next second, all she knew is that she was being held in strong arms.
"I really don't deserve you, Sakura…" Naruto mumbled into her hair. She giggled and hugged him back, while they waited for the chauffeur.
Naruto was the first to wake up that morning and he used that opportunity to watch Sakura in her sleep. Did that make him a creep? No, the sight of a sleeping Sakura was just too beautiful to miss. He used his right hand to caress her soft skin and play a little with her hair, while she was in a deep slumber. Suddenly she stirred in her sleep. Would she wake up? No, she just nuzzled against his hand – good sign.
He would have loved to enjoy the morning longer with his beloved, but work was calling and he was not really looking forward to that particular day. Reason? Its name begins with an 'h' and ends with an 'inata'. Yep, you guessed it.
It is not like he hates her. He just had no romantic interest whatsoever for her blue-haired young woman. He loved Sakura and that was how it would stay forever and to time indefinite. But his father was one stubborn old man and just wouldn't budge. Why couldn't he just understand that Sakura was the woman for him?
With a sigh he got up and went to the attached bathroom in order to get ready for the stressful day awaiting him.
Now, Sakura made it clear in the beginning of this story that she hated working as a secretary for Naruto. But on that particular day, she was rather grateful. Why you may ask? Well, for a simple reason: She could monitor all the happenings without needing an excuse. She was his personal secretary, so she 'had to' be by his side all the time.
And it was needed.
Especially if your in-laws are making a big-breasted beautiful girl snatch your husband away.
Oh yes, monitoring was indeed essential. She had no shame, as Ino would say, because she actually was peeping into the office of her husband. Naruto was sitting on his usual chair with Hinata hovering over him and her beautiful long hair caressing her nice face in a sweet way, making her serious expression look adorable. She was about to storm in and give an excuse, like an important client needed him, when someone touched her shoulder.
"Wah!" Sakura abruptly turned around and saw Ino standing there with her arms crossed. "Sakura, what the heck do you think you are doing?" Sakura blushed and started playing with the hem of her blouse. "N-N-Nothing… just checking on Naruto…"
Ino raised her eyebrow when Sakura addressed her boss by his first name, but didn't say anything concerning that. "Just because you happened to marry him in Vegas doesn't mean you can slack off during work. Those piles of papers won't disappear on their own, hun'!" Ohh, how Sakura hated it when someone called her 'hun''.
She growled, but followed Ino nonetheless, just throwing a last glance towards the door before walking down the hallway.
"…and that is about all you need to know about the sales management department. I won't lie to you and say it is easy, but once you've got the hang of it, it shouldn't be a problem." Hinata nodded firmly, but one could see the faint blush on her cheeks. "Thank you very much Sir." Naruto sighed dramatically. "Hinata, we have been over this. How many times do I have to tell you to call me by my first name? Naruto is fine."
Hinata shook her head. "I know, but I think of it as disrespectful calling you by your first name Mr. Uzumaki." Naruto just rolled his eyes at that comment, but didn't push the matter further. He looked at his Rolex watch and realized that it was already lunch time. "Oh, break time is here."
Hinata hurriedly looked up. This was her chance! "Mr. Uzumaki!" Naruto looked at her surprised because of the determination in her voice. "W-Would you mind having lunch with me? I-I think a review of what we just discussed would be good for me… And the earlier I learn the things, the less time you have to spend with me." She smiled sweetly at him, daring him to say no to that face.
Naruto was about to reply that he always had lunch with his wife, but upon contemplating her reasoning, he realized that she was right. But it would be a pain in the butt to tell Sakura that he would not be able to make it for lunch. Sighing, he took out his cell phone and called her.
"Yes?" It was scary how the sound of her voice could melt his heart just like that. "Hey Sakura."
"Oh hi Naruto. When will you be here?" Naruto took a deep breath and prepared himself for the anger. "Oh about that. Look Sakura, I am sorry, but I don't think I will be able to make it to lunch today. I still have to go over the things with Hinata. I am really sorry." He expected her to start yelling and getting angry, but not this.
It was silent on the other line for a while and when Naruto almost thought he wasn't going to get an answer, Sakura replied.
"Oh okay. I understand. Then…another time?"
Naruto blinked. And then he blinked again. Sakura was not mad? Okay, who was that and what did she do with his beloved wife?
"Sakura? Are you okay?" Sakura just laughed. "Of course I am okay. What kind of a silly question is that? Come on, do your work, but do not forget to get some lunch okay? Promise me!" "P-Promise…" Naruto mumbled. Why did it kind of hurt that she did not seem to make a fuss over it? He brushed the feeling off and told her goodbye, but not without reassuring her how much he loved her.
If he had turned around a second earlier, he would have seen the frown on Hinata's face.
"So you ready? Let us do this. I do not want to miss dinner too." Hinata nodded enthusiastically and sat down in front of him.
Sakura was sitting in the kitchen watching the servants work. It was quite amusing to see them running around and working like bees. She had wanted to help, but she soon enough realized that she was more of a burden that a help, so she sat down and watched them.
Another reason was that she was waiting for Naruto to return home and had needed a distraction. When she was done, she had gone to his office as usual to pick him up, but he had been in a deep discussion with Hinata-san and told her he would come later. She had just nodded and closed the door with a polite smile, but it was not before the door closed that she let her façade fall.
It might have seemed like she didn't mind him not eating lunch with her, but it was the total opposite. In between all the hectic and stress, lunch was the only time during work they could sit down together and tell the other about their morning. About how they felt and if there was any new office gossip. Of course, from an outsider's standpoint it might have seemed not essential, but to her it was really important. She really valued those minutes and they always motivated her throughout the afternoon.
But she had not wanted to even stress him out more. She knew he got a lot of pressure from his parents and Hinata wasn't helping either. Sakura knew that Naruto was using up all his energy, so she didn't want to be the winy wife that was complaining just because her husband failed to eat lunch with her for once. Dinner was about the same thing. Naruto didn't also need pressure from home.
Their home was supposed to be like a sanctuary for him, not another hell hole to get into.
And that was the reason why she kept quiet and never let him knew how much his disappointments hurt her.
She had excused herself from the workers and bid them good night, before disappearing into the bedroom. She had been in such deep thoughts, that the arms that encircled her waist startled her.
"Naruto…" she whispered into the dark.
"I am sorry. Can you please forgive me?" Naruto just held her in his arms, not even budging. Not letting her go. Tears were running down her cheeks, but she didn't not let him know. Sakura just nodded and hugged him back, burying her head in his shoulder, while Naruto held her tightly and muttered sweet nothings into her hair.
"No Hinata, I really can't make it today. Look, I don't want my wife to be upset because I am spending so much time with you." Hinata frowned and clenched her fists.
"I know. I realize that, but this is important! Don't you want to get this done with as fast as possible?" Naruto sighed and rubbed his temples, before moving his glasses back into place. "Of course I do! But not on the cost of my marriage."
Hinata's face softened and she crossed her arms. "Okay fine, I get it. Go to lunch with Sakura-san, but as an exchange, I want us to talk about the Managing Sector over dinner at Firenze's. No buts." Naruto narrowed his eyes.
"Is this supposed to be a rendezvous?" Hinata shook her head and her long dark-blue hair swayed. "No… just a meeting between…" With this she moved towards him and whispered into his ear. "…two business partners…" Hinata took her bag from the table and disappeared outside the room.
Naruto groaned and looked towards the ceiling. What had he got himself into? Now, how was he supposed to explain this to Sakura? 'Oh, and by the way I am going out on a dinner-date with Hinata, but no worries it isn't a date. Just a meeting.' Psh, yeah right.
Naruto took his cell phone from the table and walked out his big office to meet the waiting Sakura.
Sakura's face lit up when she saw Naruto. To be honest, she had been expecting a text message which stated that he couldn't make it again. But when she saw him hurrying towards her, a warm feeling rushed through her veins and she graced him with a smile.
The instant Naruto saw that smile, he felt guilt in his chest, trying to find the right words to tell her the news.
"Hey Sakura…" Naruto gave her a chaste kiss on the cheek, not caring that about half of the company was staring at them in awe. Sakura blushed a little und did not shake off his public display of affection.
"I am so happy you could make it today…" Now the young man really felt guilty. He felt like he was neglecting his wife and his job as a husband and he even felt more guilty with what he was about to tell her.
"I am happy too that I get to see you during lunch…" His fingertips slightly touched hers as he tried to find the right words. "Listen, I know I don't spend a lot of time with you these days any longer and I want to sincerely apologize to you for that. I know it has been also taking a toll on you." He raised his head a blue eyes full of guilt met her gaze. Before she could even reply, Naruto continued. "And I am sorry that I have to cancel dinner today again. You don't deserve it, but I have an important business meeting that I just cannot cancel. Please, try to understand…"
Now Naruto just felt like a jerk. Lying to his wife? Really? Had he really sunk that low? But he didn't want her to worry unnecessarily. Anything was better than telling her he would be meeting up with Hinata.
Sakura just grinned and grasped his hand. "No worries. Just concentrate on your job, okay?" Naruto smiled gratefully and they started eating lunch together.
Phew now this was hard. I am sorry for taking a bit longer, but we were moving into a new apartment. I wasn't able to find the time to write on my story – so I sincerely apologize. But hey, I could've taken longer, y'all know me :D
I tried speeding things up a bit or this story would take about 50 chapters and I neither have the patience nor the attention span for that.
I really hope you enjoyed this chapter and stick around for the next to come. I still have some few shots ;)
Please review and tell me what YOU, yes YOU, think about this story a sixteen-year-old bored teenager wrote.
