Arsenal New Beginnings Chapter 10: The Hard Truth

Laurel stood there staring down the Joker and started to think of a way to save her and Lian. She looked at him and said, "Well then there's a lot they haven't told you Joker."

Malcolm walked up to the Joker saying, "I thought we had an agreement."

Joker turned his attention from Laurel to Malcolm Merlyn and said, "I've decided to change our agreement to suit me. Oh if you think of trying anything, I wouldn't dare."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Laurel asked.

"I'm glad you asked, you see Mr. Merlyn has a secret that he doesn't want the world to know. But lucky for him, I won't tell anyone. All I ask in return is for his continued support. If not his son will suffer."

"You monster. How dare you?" Malcolm shouted in anger.

Laurel walked in front of the Joker and in an upset tone said, "Where's Tommy?"

"Harley be a dear and get her out of my way." Joker replied looking at Harley.

Harley nodded and grabbed Laurel and took her away from Malcolm. Laurel struggled as she was taken away and shouted angrily "Where is he?"

Harley carried her and opened the closet door and threw her in. She looked at her saying, "Your friend is safe for now."

"Tell me now you bitch." Laurel demanded in an angrily.

Harley heard what Laurel had called her. She got angry and went into the closet. Turning on the light before the door got closed. Harley grabbed Laurel and punched her in the stomach. A fight was beginning in the closet. Suddenly Harley went through the closet door landing on the ground. Joker saw Harley lying on the ground and then noticed Laurel come out and sit on top of her and started throwing punches. She got a left and right hook to Harley's face. She got cut open on her right eye.

Jim ran to break them up and pointed a gun at Laurel as he grabbed her off Harley. Harley got up then gave Laurel a low blow. She grabbed her stomach as she fell to her knees.

"Enough Harley." Joker ordered.

Harley stopped and went to wash the blood off her face. Harley looked at Laurel and saying, "Next time you won't be so lucky."

"We'll see Harley." Laurel replied wiping the blood from her lip.

Harley walked off and went to get cleaned up. Twenty minutes later she returned and stood beside the Joker. Jim pointed the gun behind her back, digging the barrel into her spine saying, "Move it."

"Alright I'm going to need to be so pushy." Laurel replied walking towards the now empty bathroom and got clean. She headed out of the bathroom, and they watched as Jim motioned with the gun for her to sit on the couch.

"Now that you're both cleaned up I can finish telling you where Tommy Merlyn is." Joker replied as he looked at everyone around the room.

"Well get on with it. I don't have all day to play your games Joker", Malcolm replied in an annoyed tone.

The Joker snapped his fingers and Harley pressed a button next to the flat screen on the wall and flipped the feed to view Tommy tied up to a chair. Joker looked at Malcolm and saying, "Tommy will remain in my custody until the job is done. You wanted to know where he is. He is somewhere in this building.

"Just let him go, he has nothing to do with him." Laurel replied with a tear rolling down her cheeks.

Joker smirked and said, "You can thank Batman for making me the monster you see here today."

"Thank Batman for what. I heard the stories of how you became the Joker. It was your own fault." Malcolm replied.

Joker pulled out a knife and grabbed Malcolm by the throat and said in a threatening tone, "If I wanted to, I could slit your throat. But I need you alive. They say everything happens for a reason. Well whether it was my fault or not, it's made me into the man I am."

Joker let Malcolm go and walked off toward the security room where he could watch all the cameras in the building. Laurel sat there and watched. She didn't want to make her move yet and reveal her secret. Considering it was Malcolm Merlyn, who hired Deathstoke to kidnap her and inject her with something that made it possible to do her special ability. Laurel wanted another shot at Harley but this time she would use the ability given to her by Deathstoke.

Harley looked at Jim and shouted, "Watch them. I'll be with Mr. J in the security room watching the battle unfold."

She walked off and Jim then pointed his gun back at them. The two other men with him also pointed their guns. The door was closed; Harley knocked at the door and the Joker said, "Come in."

Harley walked in, closing the door behind her and sat next to the Joker and watched the screen. On the screen they could see Nightwing and Starfire fight, while on another screen they could see Roy and the Green Vigilante. Joker decided he'd bring up the catfight between the two women. He looked at her saying, "What was that about between you and Laurel."

"That bitch called me a bitch." Harley replied.

Joker got up from his chair and moved his hands as he spoke to her and says "I need them alive The Joker watched the feed go out and in a matter of seconds the Joker gets up from his chair and tosses a remote through the screen. Turning toward Harley, he said in an angry tone, "As usual Nightwing is interfering with my plans. And no one messes with my plans."

"What will you do Mr. J?" Harley asked looking at him.

"I think it's time we clipped the Nightwing's wings permanently and send them to the bats." The Joker replied in a sinister tone.

The Joker leaves the security office and heads towards the direction of Nightwing and Starfire. Harley smirks then shouted to the Joker saying, "Can I make Laurel suffer now."

"Yes Harley dear. Make them suffer." The Joker replied walking back to the doorway and looking at Harley then walking off.
