Pretty much the only explanation I have at this point for the update being so late is being slammed with a ton of school work (senior year is not nearly as fun as it sounds) and then getting sick and having to miss two days right before winter break. So I've spent winter break recovering and yeah….
So, this is my last chapter and I really, really hope you enjoy it! Hugs will be finishing off the story so look out for that (hopefully) soon.
Disclaimer: At this point I'm only putting this so I can say that I put a disclaimer. You know the drill.
Chelsea's POV:
I took a deep breath. Talking about my past was never easy and Roxie is pretty much the only one I've ever felt comfortable telling, but Reece told me his story so I figured he deserved to hear mine. There's a lot of history and a lot of hate in our relationship, but I figured that maybe we could start to fix things bit by bit.
Roxie had already heard the tale so she was silent throughout. She just sat with Reece and held his hand. I wasn't surprised at all – she was always nice to him and they seemed to get along well so it made sense that they'd get together. It wasn't my place to say anything, but I thought they were actually pretty cute.
I told Reece the story about Sebastian and how he had sacrificed himself so I could get away. It was hard not to tear up at times but somehow I managed to get through the entire thing without breaking down. When I was done, I looked up at them, not sure what to expect from Reece.
He said, "I'm sorry."
"It was a long time ago," I said, my default answer whenever someone gave me pity.
"The pain doesn't go away," he replied. He didn't have to say anything else for me to know that he understood how I felt and even though the two of us would probably never be close or even friends, we could at least be civil. Not a bad start if you ask me.
Roxie suggested that we take the train back to New York so we wouldn't risk another run-in with the airport security dogs but I said it was fine. The plane would take less time and with a new weapon in hand I wouldn't be scared. Reece agreed with me and we grabbed our tickets and checked out of the hotel room.
The airport wasn't as bad as before. Or, at least we didn't get attacked again. Of course we had to deal with the mortals and security and all that stuff. You know how it is.
After we landed in New York, we went outside the airport and after finding a hidden-away spot, we used my knife to make an Iris message. Turns out that we didn't need drachmas. I guess being a kid of Iris has perks. Anyways, we called Chiron and explained what had happened, and he sent Argus to go get us. He showed up about twenty minutes later, helped us with our bags and we got into the car. None of us talked as he drove us back to Camp.
We got to the border and Argus sent us on ahead while he got our bags. Chiron greeted us when we got to the Big House.
"I knew sending you three was the right choice," he said, smiling like a proud parent.
"I don't know if I'd call it that," I said.
"Your combined strengths were more than enough to get you through," Chiron replied. "You just didn't know it." We all glanced at each other but before we could say anything, he continued: "Well, Reece, Roxie, I believe your cabins are waiting for you." I noticed that he didn't mention me. Reece and Roxie glanced at me uncertainly before leaving.
"Um…. Did something happen?" I asked.
"You've got guests," Chiron said. "They're inside." Normally he wasn't so mysterious, so I knew that something was up but I headed into the Big House anyways.
When I walked in I got tackled and fell to the floor. When I managed to sit up, I saw a mass of tangled brown hair that belonged to my ten-year-old stepsister Emmy.
"Cee-Cee!" she grinned, using the nickname she'd given me. Our parents had met after I'd left for Camp and had gotten married. Their wedding had been one of the few times I'd been allowed to leave, and it was where I first met her. She was nine at the time, but we got along really well.
"Emmy? What're you doing here?" I asked. A pair of strong arms helped me up.
"Sorry about that, Chels. She's just excited to see you," my stepmother Madeline said as she helped me stand. Madeline used to be in the army but had moved to Santa Fe with her daughter to try and live a peaceful life, which is where she'd met my dad. I really liked her – she was good for him.
"Madeline?" I turned and saw my dad. "Dad? What are you guys doing here?"
"We came to visit you," he said, pulling me into a hug. "And we've got news."
"We're moving to New York to be closer to you!" Emmy blurted out, causing Madeline to sigh.
"She's been like this all day."
"Wait, you're moving to the city?"
My dad nodded. "We all miss you. Besides, we talked it over with Chiron – he thinks you're strong enough to handle living in the mortal world during the school year. That is…if you want to come live with us."
It was hard to stop myself from tackling my father. "YES! Yes, I want to live with you guys!" I said excitedly, and he hugged me so tightly that he picked me up. He put me down and I ran over to Emmy and grabbed her hand. "This is great news! But there's SO much I have to show you here! You've got to see the pegasi!" Her eyes widened in excitement and wonder and we ran out.
I honestly had no idea how living with an actual family would be, but I was so ready to find out.
Well, there you have it! That's the end of Chelsea's storyline. I'm glad that I got to show how her dad had been, and her new family. Emmy is one of my favorite minor characters just 'cause she's so bubbly.
Hope you enjoyed it =)
