*Disclamier- I don't own Kuroshitsuji*
Is it possible to have so much fun with a story? Hmm…
And Vidgalz C Valvatore… I have noticed that when I update, you review not even five minutes after I update… which is a good thing. XD
And sorry to everyone for not updating for a while! I've been slightly busy with trip plans and such… updating is going to be pretty slow. I'm trying different things, and I think it's improving my writing, so sorry for the all the waiting you guys have been forced to endure!
Xavier POV
"Undertaker…" I walk in front of him slowly, before mimic his actions of leaning against the wall. He watches me with a bemused look. I pick up that cat, who has taken to meowing again. "Why do you look like that?"
"Like what?"
"Dark. Black. But not your hair… it's light. Like an old person's. Why? You said you aren't human."
"Does it matter?" I guess from the expression on his face that he could answer questions all day long and not get tired. He is still leaning against to tower above me. This man was… mysterious. The funny man. Yes, I thought the title suited him well… he always had that leer on his face. Smiling, I hold my cat to my chest and ask him another question.
"Alright then… what am I? Tell me. I demand to know."
"Well, well, someone is quite demanding. But you've more than paid for it." He cackles and slowly slides to sit on the ground, his back up against the cold stones. I copy him again, but sit cross-legged, meanwhile the cat tries to make another escape. She runs towards him, rubbing up against his side, and he chuckles while petting her.
"Paid for it?" I look at him questioningly.
"Just something or other…" He licks his lips in thought, obviously not bothering with the question, and then looks at me and smiles. "You know what a shinigami is. That's good. You are also here in the human world… which must mean that you know the difference between a shinigami and a human."
"I … sort of. Humans don't know about us. Shinigamis are stronger and faster." The cat comes back to me, and I gather her in my arms. She sits there contentedly.
He watches the cat. "… Have you named her?"
"Huh? No… I don't know what to name her."
"… Give her a good name. A name can show how much one cares for another being."
"It can?" I blink with confusion. A name was just a name to me, something to distinguish between two people. He just nods and shrugs.
"Yes, at least, that's what I think… anyways, you said 'us' when referring to shinigami. Tell me, Xavier… do you know what a demon is?"
"No… wait, I read about them. And hear about them somewhere… hey, don't they take souls and stuff to the nine levels." I stare at Undertaker expectantly, wondering why he is asking me this. Now he blinks with confusion.
"… 'Nine levels'…?"
"In Dante's 'The divine Comedy'. Dante goes through nine levels of hell. And there lies the demons."
"Hmm... well that is certainly an interesting way to put it. I will tell you nothing of hell; however, I can tell you that the man currently looking after you is a demon."
"… Daddy?" I frown while he laughs, and I realize I've got it wrong. I pout silently for a few moments. "… You mean... Sebaston."
"Yes. Xavier… demons feed on souls. Human souls. Sebastian is currently the butler working for a very important family in order to gain his soul. However, that family and I are at odds… but whatever. Anyways… just be careful. Demons are cunning, deceitful creatures."
"They are?" Sebastian hadn't seemed all that bad… strange, yes, but deceitful?
"Yes. Furthermore, I need to tell you this because no one has, though it is of the upmost importance that you know… you are not a full shinigami-"
"Yes, I am." I cut him off, a frown forming on my face. "Why would you say that?"
"Because it's true, you were adopted-"
"I was not adopted."
"Yes-"
"No." I continue to frown at him. "I have parents and they love me very much… so much that they buy me stuffed animals and kiss me goodnight at bedtime."
"Oh, there is no doubt they love you. I need to tell you this now, because I don't trust Sebastian, but I'm not sure I can rely on your parents to tell you everything." He sighs again, running a hand through the long hair. "You were born half human, half demon. Grell rescued you."
"You're lying." I stand up, eliciting an annoyed mew from the cat. "That's mean. It hurts."
"It's true. Haven't you ever wondered, Xavier, why you are not like the rest of them? Yes, you have red hair like Grell, but your eyes are blue. Look at everyone else's families. Shinigami families. Their children take years to grow up; their bodies, as well as their minds. And you stand here in front of me with a fully capable mind, and you are still growing at a quick rate."
When he pauses, I open my mouth to try and say something back, but no words come out. It is true, isn't it? I didn't grow at the normal height. I had often wondered why my eyes were different. But… a half demon? Demon, demon, demon… I briefly remember a conversation between my parents, so long ago, where I had heard that word. Yes, that's where I heard it… at home. The problem was, I was never around and stuff.
'Another demon took another round of souls…'
'Oh, is it always about work to you, Will darling?' Grell, my happy mother, teased.
'They are an annoyance. They do nothing good… only badness can be expected…' my father sighs as he puts the plates and dishes away.
Undertaker watches me as I don't say anything, a slow smile creeping on his face. But he didn't need to. I close my mouth, and bundle up my cat in my jacket once more.
"Good bye, Undertaker."
".. you are going?"
"Yes. Sebaston must be worried." I turn around and begin walking down the lane, hoping I can find my way back. But as I am walking, he calls out to me.
"Xavier, if you ever need to find me, I shall be waiting! Grave yards are ever so inviting…" He cackles as I continue to walk away, but I still don't bother to look back at him.
Alright! Let me know if I got anything majorly wrong…
Let me know if it was a good/ alright/ decent/ fairly decent chapter….
