Emily had just run into Biology and sat at her lab chair. Nolan, her lab partner, was already there and was staring at her with an amused look on his face. She was always late for biology, her teacher before was fond of the 'the bell doesn't dismiss you, I dismiss you' rule.

"Don't tell me, Mr. Prosser kept the class in again?"

Emily rolled her eyes, "He accused us of stealing his ten dollar sunglasses and went on a lecture about how stealing is bad and the whole time we were trying to tell him that they were on his head. I swear I'm going to fail french because of him."

That's when she noticed that Nolan wasn't paying attention but instead staring behind her. The absolute silence of the once noisy class and the tension that seemed to fill the air alerted Emily, without having to turn around, who had just walked in. Judging by the way that Nolan was grinning at her like the Cheshire Cat she was right.

"Ms Ellis is dealing with a family matter and is unavailable to come to class today and for the rest of the week. If any of you cheer I will ask you to go down to the principal so you can explain to him why in your senior year you wish to fall behind. Any questions?"

Emily had to fight to keep the smile off of her face, the woman was such a queen. It didn't help that whenever Victoria got all strict and steely eyed, Emily always wondered what the brunette was like in the bedroom. Nolan shoved her softly.

"You're blushing."

Emily ducked her head hoping that her classmates hadn't noticed. Victoria took a seat behind the teacher's desk and spread her work over the desk and disappeared into it. Emily felt a little pang in her chest, Victoria hadn't even bothered to look at her. Emily tried to convince herself that it was Victoria protecting their secret but it did nothing to dull the ache.

After ten minutes of pretending to study at what they had done the previous day Emily had had enough. Most of the class was dead silent, save for the clicking of a pen or the turn of a page, nobody was going to risk talking in this class so Emily was lucky when her chair scraped backwards nobody looked towards the source of the noise.

She was about to walk towards Victoria when Nolan grabbed her arm.

"Don't be stupid," Nolan said.

Emily nodded, she wasn't sure who she was trying to convince though.

When she approached the table Victoria sensed her immediately, "How may I help you Ms Clarke?", she asked without looking up from her work.

"I was just curious as to whether or not we would be getting back our essays in English today."

Victoria finally glanced up at her, Emily was surprised when she saw no hint of Victoria in her eyes. It was all ice queen.

"Well then I'm sorry to tell you that the answer to your question is no. I have an unfortunately scheduled doctor's appointment when class begins."

Emily thought she was being dismissed when Victoria started writing on a scrap of paper until she started to walk away and Victoria grabbed her wrist to pull her back. Emily didn't understand until she caught sight of the paper.

Tonight. My place. 7:00

Emily nodded to show she agreed before heading back to her seat, hoping Nolan wouldn't question her.

Emily lay on her bed that evening trying to dodge calls from Nolan, do her homework and not think about tonight. She and Victoria hadn't had much time to be by themselves or well together at all, this was something Emily knew she had to accept and she knew would happen but that didn't mean she had to like it.

The math homework wasn't stimulating her brain either. If there was one thing that Emily was thankful to Victoria for was that she had awakened something within in her, or someone. She had awakened Amanda. She had awakened the girl who wanted to excel in life. She had started doing a lot better in school, made an effort to stop snapping at Nolan and had started returning her father's affection. She wouldn't lie, she was nervous that something was going to go wrong.

Ditching her pen she rolled off the bed and went into the bathroom before stripping and getting into the shower. The burning hot water cascaded down her back. She felt at peace here, she could feel her very soul being warmed as the water left no area untouched. She couldn't help but wonder what it would be like if Victoria was behind her. Wet flesh pressing against each other. Emily needed to stop, or relieve herself, she couldn't go to Victoria's in this state.

She ended up not having a choice in the matter, she'd have to get out of the shower now if she ever wanted to get to Grayson Manor by the time Victoria specified. She ran into closet and pulled on a matching set of underwear, her nicest and shortest black skirt, an over sized cream cashmere sweater and a gold necklace.

She rushed downstairs and was almost out of the door before a voice stopped her.

"Where are you off to Em?"

Emily glanced behind her, it was her dad, "I'm off to spend some time with Nolan."

"Are you and Nolan, um, together? Or is it another boy? I only assume because you're dressed up."

Emily couldn't help but laugh, "No dad we are not together. He's an amazing guy but no, we're just friends and I think we both want to keep it that way."

By the time Emily had reached the Manor it was freezing outside and Victoria ushered her in quickly, holding the younger girl's body against her in an attempt to warm her up.

"Why don't you go warm up by the fire while I go check on dinner," Victoria said before pressing a kiss to Emily's lips.

Emily kept her eyes closed for a second, just trying to stay in the moment before heading to the living area where she settled in front of the fire letting its warmth consume her. She let herself imagine what it would be like to spend a cold Christmas in this very room with Victoria and their children. Of course she was getting very ahead of herself, she was still young she would probably not want to stay attached for too long but, but Victoria was older, she wouldn't leave her husband for Emily for Emily to just leave her down the line. It seemed that everywhere Emily looked new complications arose.

Once Emily had warmed up she wandered into the dining room to find Victoria setting the table, the mouthwatering scents of the food made Emily's eyes water. She was starving.

"Right on time," Victoria said softly before they both sat, across from each other and dove in.

"How was the appointment?" Emily asked in between mouthfuls, then when she saw Victoria's face fall she quickly added, "Sorry, you don't have to tell me if its too personal."

Victoria gave an almost imperceptible shake of her head, " Conrad's still been pushing to get pregnant and due to the incompetent man he is has taken my silence to mean I'm worried I can't have children, so he made an appointment at a fertility clinic and I went."

Emily didn't know what to say to that, " I couldn't handle that, being married to someone who makes all your decisions for you, that's like taking away everything you are in a way."

Victoria's face darkened as the same time Emily regretted saying those words. Her brain scrambled for other, safer, conversation topics as Victoria pushed her food back and forth. This was going terribly, the worst part was that Emily couldn't think of anything to say to push them past it, she was utterly blank and Victoria seemed to have disappeared within herself.

"Did you make this?" Emily asked, gesturing towards all the food, "It's fantastic."

Victoria glanced up and Emily was surprised to see her blushing, "Thank you. We have a cook but I thought you'd prefer something more personal."

"You assumed correctly, though I'll take I guess you always do. The food is really amazing and you're really marvelous for being able to cook, I can barely boil an egg to save my life."

"I can teach you if you want, its not all that hard and with a good teacher I'm sure you'll be an expert in no time. If it doesn't work out in your favor, well, I'm sure you have other talents. Do you have a talented mouth?"

Emily almost spat out the water she had just sipped and judging by the look on Victoria's face that was exactly the reaction she was going for.

"Excuse me?"

"I mean can you sing, play the flute, anything like that?" Victoria raised her eyebrows, that made Emily wonder what she really meant.

Emily wasn't left to her thoughts for long before she felt a foot rubbing against her's and her head snapped up instantly and Victoria's teasing grin met her eyes. Emily wanted to know what game Victoria was playing and she wanted to play too.

"Should we move to somewhere a tad more private?" Victoria asked, her voice slipping into dangerously low tones.

They both moved to stand and Victoria took Emily's hand and led her through the maze that was Grayson Manor until they came to the same basement where they had watched a movie a few weeks ago.

Emily had barely reclined on the couch before Victoria's lips were on hers, hands on every inch of her body. Emily felt like she was floating, she just felt so separated from her body. She couldn't believe how amazingly lucky she was to be here, in this moment, with the most beautiful woman she had ever seen.

"If I overstep any boundaries please let me know," Victoria said between kisses.

Emily took the older woman's face in her hands and pulled her back down onto her, letting Victoria have control. Her hands sought out Victoria's body, very aware of her own inexperience, until they made their home underneath the purple fabric of Victoria's top.

Victoria detached herself from Emily's lips and Emily didn't understand why until she heard the sound of fabric hitting the floor and suddenly there was a lot more of Victoria on display to admire. As Emily's eyes took in the sight of Victoria's bra-clad breasts her mouth became very dry unlike other parts of her.

Victoria made her way downwards, where the most secretive parts of Emily made their home. She couldn't stop the deep, throaty, gasps that seemed to come from deep within her as Victoria pushed the soft material of her skirt up until most of her lower region was exposed and Emily suddenly felt very shy.

As soon as Victoria had her fingers had tightened on the white lacy fabric of Emily's underwear her cellphone rang.

"Leave it," Victoria almost growled.

Emily glanced behind her, at Victoria's ringing phone and her heart sank when she saw the caller ID. Conrad.

"It's your husband," Emily said and as soon as the words were out of her mouth Victoria was reaching across her and had brought the phone to her ear.

"Hello Conrad, how was your flight? Well thats rather unfortunate but I hope you settle in just fine at the hotel. The doctor's apoointment was fine and they'll be getting back to me sometime soon with the results. No, I had a quiet night and I'm about to head to bed. Alright, I love you too, Bye."

The longer Victoria talked to him the worse Emily felt and she tried to pull down her skirt without causing Victoria's attention to switch to her. She needed to get out of here, she needed to get some air or just breathe at all. Conrad thought that Victoria wanted to have a child with him, wanted to be with him and Victoria was, what was she doing, sleeping with her? Emily didn't understand why it had taken so long for her to get that.

Victoria tossed the phone on the couch at the same time that Emily stood up and pulled the rest of her skirt down until it was back to its normal length.

"Emily? What's wrong?"

"I can't come between you and Conrad, I won't. He wants to have a child with you Victoria, he loves you and you, you're ... I don't even know what you are. Do you love me Victoria? Do you? Because I love you and I'm sure that you're husband does too and I know that if I were him then I couldn't stand having you and then losing you or having you cheat on me."

"Emily! Wait, please."

"I can't be here right now. I'm going to go, please don't follow me because I really need to do some thinking and if you follow me then I know that I won't be able to resist you. Good bye Victoria."

Victoria watched, helplessly, as Emily turned away from her and all but ran up the stairs and away from her. Victoria felt that familiar sting of worthlessness and self-loathing and here she had thought she had finally found the one person who would never make her feel that way.
