History Before The X-Men

Renegade snapped her eyes open. She kept her breathing even and slow so that she couldn't hyperventilate to wake up her 'cell-mate.' The visions kept coming at full force and she had to stifle a groan at them. The future kept changing from one vision to another. As if some one took silly string and just aimed it a a wall at the same spot. Meshing visions is not a good thing and it gave her a head ache. She sat up and rubbed the side of her head.
"Ugh...Blaze, I would really appreciate it, if you could come and get us right now please?" Renegade thought as she stood up and stretched herself out.
Being on a dirt floor with a ratty thin blanket for warmth was not pleasant. Well, she had dealt with things like this before. It shouldn't surprise her. she went up to the wire door and shook it. It was a strong type of wire, unfortunately, with her shadow powers cut off, it isn't going to be easy breaking out. Although the notion went through her mind, she knew that it wouldn't be a good idea.
"Hey!" she heard a whisper on the other side of the cage.
She walked over avoiding her cell-mate snoring soundly on the floor and kneeled down. It was the two other mutants. Pietro and Wanda.
"How are you two holding up?" She asked.
"Like hell. Do you know where we are at?" Wanda asked.
She looked tired, but Renegade could see the fire burning in the young woman's eyes. Renegade shook her head.
"Unfortunately no. We are somewhere warm though." Renegade said as she looked around.
"GHA!" She heard a scream past Wanda.
"Idiot! Don't mess with that collar!" Wanda shouted at the white haired boy.
"I want it off!" Renegade could see him struggle.
"Don't. unless you want to be the first out there fighting, stop messing with that collar." Renegade said as she narrowed her eyes at the boy.
"What? You mean they really would make us fight?" Pietro whined as he walked up to the fence.
"The wouldn't make us kids fight...right?" Pietro said worried.
"Unfortunately, they would." Renegade said in all seriousness.
"But I'm too young to die!" Pietro said shakily.
"I know. The best thing we can hope for is to just be calm and not make trouble." Renegade said as she rubbed her forehead irritably. Wanda noticed this action and frowned.
"Why would they want us here? To fight like a pack of wolves?" Wanda asked.
"More so than anything else. I have come across fighting rings like this before, although both parties, mutant and human, agreed to fight willingly. This on the other hand..." Renegade trailed off.
Suddenly, a loud bang went throughout the shacks that the mutants are in and there was boisterous laughing and jeering.
"All right you mutie freaks. Time to earn your keep." Harsh voices echoed throughout the shacks.
"Damn." Renegade Snarled.
"Be quiet and whatever you do, don't talk back!" Renegade whispered to Wanda and Pietro.
"Renegade?" She heard Rogue's voice from the other side of the walled fence.
Renegade rushed over and saw Rogue's frightened face.
"Don't worry, Sugar." Renegade slipped into her southern twang.
"You'll be fine. Just keep quiet." Renegade said soothingly.
"You there!" A man made a racket on Renegade's cell door. Also waking up the brute of a mutant that was one the floor.
"Shut up, you damn human." He growled.
Renegade only glanced at the brute before looking up at the man not he other side of the door.
"What do you want?" She said defiantly.
The man looked like a typical redneck, but the cattle prod in his hands cackled menacingly, he tapped it on the door where sparks flew in Renegade's face. She didn't even flinch.
"Well we got ourselves a tough girl. Think you can survive in The Cage?" He grinned at her, looking up and down.
Renegade growled threateningly at him.
"Looks like we found our first fighter." He said grinning.
Renegade said nothing but glared at the man in front of her.
"You will be going against Troy. Now that will be a pretty good fight. If you survive that is." He said wickedly.
"Troy? Man, he would eat her up and spit her out. She won't last even 3 minutes in the Cage with him in there. Why not get Marvel to do it?" A portly man said as he sneered at Renegade's small figure.
"Come on, look at Marvel! We have to save her for the best fighters. Besides, that collar is the only thing keeping her down. We wouldn't want her to go ape-shit crazy again like last time now do we?" The other man smacked his hand against the shorted man's head.
"You! What's your name?" The taller man asked roughly.
"Why should I tell you?" She snarled.
"Well, we always get names for our mutie fighters. You look like a 'lollie'." The portly one snorted at her.
Renegade scoffed.
"My name is Renegade. If you must know." She said glaring at the two men.
"Renegade, huh? You'll die in the first match." He shocked the door with the cattle prod but Renegade wasn't fazed.
"See you at there. We'll let the boss know about the first match of the night. Get ready mutie." They cackled as they left the shack.
"You shouldn't have done that." She heard the deep feral growl of her cell mate.
She turned ans saw the hulking brute frowning at her.
"I'll be fine. Nothin' to it." Renegade spoke.
"Renegade! Why are you doing this? You might die!" Rogue said looking at the woman in fear.
Rogue couldn't believe that Renegade wanted to fight.
"I'll be fine Rogue. It won't be easy, but it's the only way to live." Renegade said solemnly.
"You wouldn't kill...would you?" Rogue asked quietly.
Renegade made no sound.
"Rogue. Start you meditation. We need to get you up to par on your powers. remember what I told you last night. Let's get started." Renegade said as she sat down by the large hole in the fence.
Rouge knew that it was a no-nonsense tone, she would ask her questions later.
"Alright, picture the Mansion again, this time..."
TAL21: Gah! Sorry for the little late update! So here are the times when HBTXM will be updated. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Why? Because i have school that's why! Hey, i have to support my writing habits somehow. The real world is not fun sometimes. Thi smay be a bit of a short chapter, but things will get serious really soon. Renegade's first fight will be in the next two chapters. The next chapter on the other hand, well let's just say a certain Shapeshifter and Metal Manipulator will be coming into play. And Some people at not happy about it. XD SHOUT OUTS!:
Jay Eddon: Thank you for sticking with my fic through and through! Trust me, it's not easy picking it up again after a year, with work and school now, it'll be a bit tough to pull it off for NaNoWriMo. As for Rouge Gaining the powers of Ms. Marvel, well we'll just wait and see!
Remy'sRose: It was an interesting concept when i came up with it. I wanted to mesh it a bit with the X-Men movies only partially and mix a bit of the 90s cartoon in it. Let's face it, I enjoy making heroes. As for the family twist, I've always seen Rogue as the adopted child. Well what would happen if i gave her parents. Especially a Dad who has the same, if not greater, powers like her? It was a pretty good notion that for sure. XD
