EPILOGUE:
~Six Years Later~
"Mommy, read us the tale again!" A little girl with sandy blonde curls shouted, bouncing on the bed.
Caroline sighed, and turned to face her five year old, four year old, and two year old gazing at her with a mixture of their father's eyes and hers. She shook her head, and slowly made her way towards them. "It's getting late, you three. It's time for bed." She replied, with a stern look.
The eldest girl sighed, and shook her head. "It's still early, mommy." She replied, with a pout on her face.
Caroline rolled her eyes, and shook her head. "You are so much like your father." She stated, earning a gleam from the little girl.
"Uh oh, who is like me?"
Caroline sighed, as the little girls bounced up and down once again, and she slowly stood up, and turned to look at her husband, entering the room.
Her breath caught in her throat at the sight of him, and she smiled. No matter how long they had been together, she would never get over how he looked, especially when he looked at her. "Your daughters will not go to bed." She stated, with a stern voice.
Klaus chuckled, and leaned forward to kiss her cheek, pulling her to his side, and turned to his daughters. "You should listen to your mother." He stated, earning disappointed sighs from his children.
"But daddy, we wanted to hear the story again." The eldest stated, causing Klaus to smile, and turn to his wife.
"The story?" He asked, as Caroline rolled her eyes.
"They want to hear the Rogue and the Swan tale again." She answered, earning a smile from her husband.
He nodded, and hugged her close to whisper in her ear. "I wouldn't mind hearing it, Swan." He whispered, sultry.
She shivered, and closed her eyes. "You lived it, Rogue." She stated, earning giggles from her daughters.
Since they were born, Caroline had told them of the tale of the Swan and Rogue, and though they thought it was just a tale, she knew it wasn't.
She placed her right hand on her stomach, and sighed. "They need to go to bed, Nik." She stated, looking at the clock, which read 9o'clock.
Klaus sighed, and nodded. "I'm afraid your mother is right, my little swans." He replied, turning to his daughters, and smiled. "But if you're good, then she might tell you the tale tomorrow." He added, much to the delight of his three daughters.
"Good night, my little ones." Caroline replied, bending over to kiss their foreheads as she tucked them in their own beds with Klaus repeating the gesture behind her.
"Good night, mommy Swan." They stated in unison, with the exception of the two year old, who only laughed.
They stood at the doorway, and Caroline gazed at her daughters with a smile on her face as she turned the light off, and with her husband, headed down the hall to their chambers.
"I swear, they are getting more and more like you every day." Caroline replied, tiredly.
Klaus hummed, and wrapped his arms around his wife from behind to kiss her cheek. "But they look like you, Swan." He whispered, as she leaned back against his chest.
"I can't believe it's been six years." She replied, gazing at her wedding rings on her left hand.
Klaus smiled, and lifted her hand to his lips, as she turned around to face him. "It's a blessing." He replied, softly.
She nodded, and wrapped her arms around his neck. "So are the three children." She added, with a laugh.
He chuckled, and nodded. "And with another on the way." He whispered, kissing her lips, before he pulled back to gaze at her seven month expectant stomach.
She smiled, and shook her head. "I should kill you for keeping me pregnant." She stated, firmly, but the twinkle in her eyes told him that she was kidding.
"You could have stopped me." He replied, smiling.
She laughed, and tilted her head to the side. "I could no sooner stop Jean from teaching the girls how to defend themselves." She stated, with a roll of her eyes.
He chuckled, and shook his head.
It was horrible when Caroline and the others made it back to the city six years ago, and found Jean alive and well, with only a few cracked ribs. She had put on a protective vest on underneath her shirt before she left the apartment, and knew that she needed to have fake blood ready for the moment. She hadn't told the others, and that had been a mistake.
When Caroline found out the truth, she punched Jean in the face before hugging her near to death, along with Klaus and the rest of the family.
The body the men had found, had been of a girl who had displeased Tyler, whose name was not revealed, but Caroline suspected who it was, as did Klaus, but neither said a word.
Caroline fingered Klaus' right upper arm, where the scar from the bullet that Tyler fired had grazed him. It had been a miracle that Tyler had missed a well-aimed target, and only grazed Klaus' arm. The second shot that had been heard was from Damon's gun, but he had only wounded Tyler in the shoulder.
"You still think about, don't you?" Klaus whispered, watching Caroline's eyes fade slightly.
"It's hard not to, when I could have lost you." She whispered, shaking her head.
Klaus sighed, and pulled her into his embrace. "But you didn't, Swan." He stated, brushing her blonde hair with his fingers. "You rescued me, twice." He stated, with a chuckle.
She laughed, and pulled back to look into his eyes. "Well, a swan always protects her mate." She replied, smiling. "After all, they mate for life." She added, with him smiling at her.
"Do they?" He asked, as she nodded. "Well, then…" He whispered, leaning forward to kiss her lips with a passion so filled with love, she shivered in his embrace, and felt the baby within her kick.
She pulled back, and gazed down at her stomach. "I think this little fellow agrees with me." She stated, rubbing her stomach.
He smiled, and placed his hand on hers. "You think it's a boy?" He asked, as she smiled.
"I know it is." She stated, moving towards the dresser, and pulled out the picture from the ultrasound that morning, which he regrettably missed due to the hearing of Tyler's appeal, which was rejected.
He stared at the picture, and smiled, brightly. "We're going to have a son?!" He asked, with excitement beaming in his eyes.
She nodded, and smiled. "We're going to have a son." She stated, as she laughed when he picked her up, gently, and held her close.
"Oh, my Swan, I love you so much!" He stated, putting her on the ground, and kissed her until they were both breathless.
She smiled, and touched his face. "I love you." She replied, kissing him once again, and then allowed him to hold her in the security of their small, but fancy home.
She reveled in the feel of being in his arms, and knew that no matter what, she would always love him.
"Oh, by the way, Bonnie is expecting another set of twins." She replied, with a laugh.
Klaus chuckled, and shook his head. "Kol isn't going to be thrilled with that." He replied, rolling his eyes.
She pulled back with her eyes sparkling. "He already has his hands full with the set of four year old boys." She stated with a laugh.
He chuckled, and nodded. "What are they having this time?" He asked, watching her smile.
"A boy and a girl." She answered, watching him laugh.
"Oh, I can just imagine Kol's reaction." He stated with a laugh.
She smiled, and nodded. "Your mother is excited." She stated, smiling.
He rolled his eyes. "Mother loves getting more grandchildren. She loves spoiling them." He stated, shaking his head.
She giggled, and nodded. "Katherine told me that she feels like a PEZ dispenser because of all the nagging Esther is giving her about giving her more grandchildren." She stated, watching Klaus chuckle.
Klaus smiled, and nodded. "Elijah keeps saying he and Katherine are going to move away just to get mother off their backs." He stated, remembering the conversation he had with his brother about their mother.
"She's just being a doting grandmother." Caroline replied, shaking her head.
He smiled, and stroked her face. "Six years," He whispered, after a moment.
She smiled, and leaned into his hand. "Six years," She whispered in return.
Six years after the incident at the shack had left the family stronger than ever. Klaus and Caroline married a week later, citing that they could not bear the thought of spending another day unmarried, which led to them conceiving their first daughter on their wedding night.
Kol and Bonnie married a month after with Damon giving her away, and then standing next to Kol, as his best man.
Elijah and Katherine married the day after Kol and Bonnie, with Katherine proudly glowing at the prospect of having her first born child.
Jean, still reeling from her cracked ribs, stood next to Galen, holding her daughter's hand as her stepmother, Esther, married them. A few months later, Jean delivered the news she was having a son. Of course, after the birth of her son, Jean and Galen moved to Scotland, back to his homeland, and every now and then she calls Caroline to catch up.
Damon and Sophie married a few months after the incident with Bonnie as Sophie's maid of honor, and moved a few blocks away from the rest of the family. A year later, Sophie gave birth to twin girls, and named one after Bonnie, much to the delight of her dear friend.
Stefan and Rebekah married a week after Klaus and Caroline with Rebekah beaming as she handed her flowers to her maid of honor, Jean. Two years later, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl, who she named Jeanie, with Stefan smiling at the name. A year later, she gave birth to a healthy boy.
Davina, who had diligently took care of Anna, became the family nanny with great pleasure, and happiness.
Tyler, who had attempted murder on a member of the royal family and for first degree murder, had been tried and convicted and sentenced to life in prison with no possible chance for parole. Caroline knew Klaus wanted Tyler do be sentenced for longer, or at the very least condemned to death, but Caroline ended up swaying the vote to life imprisonment.
Caroline smiled as she leaned into her husband's embrace, and smiled. "I never imagined that I would be here, holding you, and having a wonderful family." She whispered, feeling his hands rub her back.
He smiled, and pulled back to gaze into her eyes. "Neither did I, until I remembered." He replied, softly.
She smiled, and leaned forward to kiss his lips, softly. He hummed against her lips, and pulled back, to stroke her face.
"How did you know it was me all those years ago?" He asked, searching her eyes.
She smiled, and searched his eyes. "When I asked where we sealed our love, and you said, 'In the clearing, under the stars, and on the blanket'." She answered, smiling as she remembered. "I knew then that it was you." She replied, shaking her head. "I never told anyone, besides Bonnie, when we made love for the first time, so only you would know." She added, smiling, stroking his scruffy face.
He smiled, and shook his head. "Tyler could have known the name I call you, Swan." He returned, nodding.
She shook her head. "But not the name I call you." She whispered, leaning forward. "Not to mention, he never held the kindness and love in his eyes that you have when you look at me." She added, softly. "You make me feel special and loved when you look at me, Nik." She finished, tilting her head to the side. "I never want it to end."
He smiled, and leaned forward. "It never will, my love, my Swan, my Caroline." He whispered, kissing her lips with each word.
She leaned forward, and treaded her hands through his hair, and felt him lift her in his arms. "I love you, my Rogue." She whispered, as he laid her down on the bed.
He smiled, and lay down beside her. "I love you, my Swan."
"Now and forever." She added, as he leaned down.
He stroked her face, and searched her blue-green eyes. "For all eternity." He added, in a low whisper before he sealed the vow with a long, lingering kiss.
Now, that is how this tale ends with two lovers bound together with love and light. Forever finding each other, and loving each other until time will end. It will always be the same for in the end, nothing nor no one will ever separate the Swan from her Rogue.
I know I scared you all at the end of the last chapter, and I'm sorry, hehe. I had intended to write another chapter before this, but I wanted to get the epilogue up and going, and this ended up tidying it all up nicely.
I'm sorry to say this is the last installment for the Swan and Rogue series. I might decide to write another edition, but for the moment this is truly the end.
