Nathan Charles and Luna Fang: Into the Dragon Realms
By Mutitoon90
Chapter Six
In the Fire Mountains, the heat was intense as it rose from the lava lakes and the unseen magma, which stirred under the ash-covered and rocky earth, causing others who come to the realm to see why no one would make the area a place of residencet down. The sky was dark and devoid of any sunlight due to the smoke emitting for the fiery pools and the boiling insides of the Fire Mountains. However, one can find small springs of heated water, if they look around long enough, but the water is not fit to be consumed in a comfortable manner.
Nathan felt the heat as he arrived into the world, and the sweat quickly came out of his pores as he looked for Luna, the werewolf, saying to himself, "Man, and I thought the name was an exaggeration! Luna must be worse off than I am with the extra fur!"
"I'm not complainin' yet." Luna's voice echoed throughout the area.
Nathan whipped his head to see the half-transformed woman, but Luna was nowhere in sight, causing Nathan to call out to her.
"Luna, where are you?"
"Don't worry your head off about me." Luna remained unseen by the human male, "I'm coming to ya."
Then, Nathan was grabbed from behind by a pair of slender and semi-hairy arms. With a jerk, Nathan found himself on the heated ground and found Luna on top. Although, it was rare for Luna to sneak up and grab Nathan in such a manner, but Nathan was not surprised about Luna's startling actions towards him.
"Luna," Nathan stated with an expression that was mixed with sternfulness and annoyance, "you know very well that I don't that; may I ask with do you do it anyway?"
"It's been a while since I've done it to ya." Luna answered with a smile that was fused with artfulness and playfulness, "Also, it's fun."
"Please, get off." Nathan calmly told Luna, who did as she was told and even helped Nathan to get back onto his feet, and the dark-haired boy said, "Thanks, Luna."
"Anytime." Luna winked at Nathan, who blushed a little, and then the werewolf noticed something in the air, flying in a panicked formation, and that caused her to say, "Something coming our way!"
"What!?" Nathan was a little surprised at the announcement, and as he processed the new information, a small and swift breeze went passed him, giving him little time to react.
Luna, however, was gifted with the quick reflexes of her people, the werewolves, and was abled to snatch the maker of the odd breeze: a tiny fairy with a wand in its hand.
"Let me go, ya dumb brute!" Demanded the small creature as it struggled to escape Luna's grasp, "I don't wanna get eaten!"
"I doubt some dinosaurs lack scales for any reason." Luna spoke in a jovial manner to the fairy, who stopped trying to escape and looked up at the she-wolf with a dumbfounded expression on her small face.
"Wait a mintue!" The possible pixie looked at Luna and Nathan as she spoke to them, "You're not that dino-dummy that's been trying to eat us!?"
Nathan and Luna shook their heads as they watched the fairy react again to not being eaten by hungry Gulp.
"Thank goodness!" The fairy nearly fainted from exhaustion, "I thought I was dino food for sure!"
"Don't worry." Luna said as she opened her hand to allow the fairy to rest more comfortably, "We're friends with Spyro."
"Spyro!?" The fairy perked up, looking at the werewolf that was holding her, "You know him?"
"Yep." Nathan nodded his head to the fairy, who was quick to stand up, but the tiny creature only fell down onto Luna's palm.
"I know him!" The female creature looked at Nathan and Luna, "Spyro's a good friend of mine."
As if on cue, the purple dragon and the yellow dragonfly appeared and went to the human duo. As Spyro and Sparx reached Nathan and Luna, the fairy waved to the small dragon.
"Spyro, it's me, Zoe!"
"Zoe?" The dragon eyed the small red-haired fae, "What are you doing around these parts?"
The fairy that was in Luna's open palm was estatic to see the purple dragon as her wings fluttered with excitement.
"Spyro, it was just awful; one mintue, my friends and I were using the hot springs around here to clean and renew ourselves, and the next, all of us were flying around, shattering to try to keep ourselves from becoming Gulp's lunch."
"So, where's Gulp?" Spyro asked the fairy, who answered, "I can show you the way!"
Sparx buzzed around, waiting for Spyro to charge off to the huge, fairy-eating brute.
"We better wait for the others." Nathan stated to Spyro, who was quick to snap at Nathan, stating harshly and in a taunting manner, "I bet your girlfriend would think the same thing."
"You don't know Luna." Nathan shook his head, slightly in disbelief in the dragon's words.
"What do you mean?" Spyro asked the dark-haired male, who was quick to answer.
"Just wait and see, Spyro."
"Hey, Nathan?" Luna tapped on Nathan's shoulder, "Can you wait here for a few minutes?"
"NO!" Nathan sternly stated before he added, "We wait here for the others!"
Luna said nothing as she folded her arms and pouted a little at Nathan's, but not before placing the fairy on the shoulder that belonged to Nathan.
"What's her problem?" Asked the fairy named Zoe as she looked at the pouting Luna, and she did receive an answer from Nathan.
"Luna doesn't like to be told 'no' at anytime." Chuckled the ex-Cortex as he watched the she-wolf's reaction to him stopping her from running off by herself.
"Nathan! Luna! Spyro!" Crash's and Hunter's voices echoed throughout the air of the Fire Mountains, causing the three to turned to the on-coming duo.
Luna, who by then started to have a cunning grin on her lips, slowly and quietly turned from the others and tried to sneak off to combat Gulp, however, as she started to crawl away, Nathan grabbed her backpack and pulled her back to the ground. At that moment of loss, Luna returned to her pouting pose.
Once Crash and Hunter reached Spyro, Nathan and Luna, the five, plus the fairy known as Zoe, spoke about their next course of action. However, it was easier said than done when it came to agreeing with an idea or course of attack.
Spyro and Sparx wanted to attack Gulp directly and without any help from the others, espeically Nathan and Luna. Hunter wanted to see about trapping Gulp, but he knew that he had very little equipment to help him to capture the green, four-legged brute. Crash wanted to go to another world and avoid any confrontation with the dinosaur creature that was Gulp, but he knew that Nathan and Luna needed to find Ripto and soon. Luna wanted to preform a direct attack, like Spyro and Sparx, however she knew that everyone would be better than just one or two of the group. Nathan was silent at this time, since he knew nothing about the opponent, Gulp.
"What's with all of this planning!?" Zoe demanded from her new perch, which was Nathan's right shoulder, "My friends are being chased by that over-sized glutton!"
"We know about that." Nathan stated to the fairy, "However, this guy's not going to be as easy as Crush was."
"That's true." Crash added as he recalled his last encounter with the blue dinosaur in his thoughts, "And Crush was weilding a club too!"
"Gulp's a little harder than Crush," Spyro truthfully admitted to the group, "but Gulp's still very easy."
"That may be true," Hunter voiced out his thoughts to the dragon, "but he could be more dangerous than before; I think trapping him is still the best course of action."
"That's true too," Nathan expressed himself to the cheetah, "but we don't have that option apparently."
"So, that means another of action." Luna agreed with the dark haired male.
"Right!" Spyro nodded in agreement with Nathan, "So, let's go torch him!"
"I don't think that if he'll become torched after spending some time." Nathan stated bluntly to the eager dragon, "We need an action to help us defeat Gulp."
"Water's out of the question, also fire's not good, none of us can control the wind, so the terrian's our best bet at the moment." Nathan muttered to himself as he thought out loud.
"You mean lava rocks?" Crash asked his best friend, causing Nathan to realize that he was untentionally voicing his thoughts.
"Not a bad idea." Luna stated excitingly, "Soaking him's no good, and torching him's the same. The wind can't help us much, so that leaves the earth."
"That could help us trap him!" Hunter exclaimed, earning a remark from Luna: "That's true."
Then, a roar echoed throughout that air of the Fire Mountains, causing everyone to turn to the direction of the noise, and the group saw the huge beast, known as Glup, charging towards them.
"SCRAMBLE!" Luna shouted, and the group obeyed, dodging the on-coming charge of the four-legged brute.
The dragon and the dragonfly went on the attack after evading the attacking brute, using his fire breath, but the efforts were fruitless. Gulp was quick to try to bite at the duo, but Spyro and Sparx dodged the chomps of Gulp.
Nathan, Luna and Crash went with Hunter and Zoe, and they watched Spyro as he tried to bring down the brutish Gulp.
"If we don't do something soon," Hunter was truly concerned about the purple dragon and the yellow dragon, "Spyro and Sparx are gonna be dino food!"
"Right!" Nathan agreed as his dark eyes scanned the area for a cliff that could be large enough to disable the dinosaurish creature.
Then, he saw a cliff that was large enough to stop Gulp, turned to Crash and announced to the Bandicoot, "We've got to help Spyro and Sparx!"
"I don't wanna deal with that thing," Crash stated with a gulp of his own, "but they're our friends; we've gotta help them!"
"Right, Crash!" Nathan nodded in agreement before Nathan gave the fairy, Zoe, to Luna, and then the two best friends from Wumpa Islands went off to help the two best friends from the Dragon Realms.
As the two stepped into the fray, Gulp took notice and started chomping at Nathan and Crash, and the duo evading the teeth-and-fang themed attacks with Spyro and Sparx.
By the time of the fifth attack from Gulp, Crash stated between pants, "This is getting ridiculious!"
"No kidding!" Spyro agreed with the Bandicoot before evading the jowls of the beast known as Gulp.
While the other three were dodging the jaws of their opponent, Nathan noticed that Gulp was in the right angle to be thrown into the cliff. The ex-Cortex placed himself at the right spot for his plan of action and then started to taunt the beast.
"Nuh-nuh!"
Gulp was not a very intelligent creature and became outraged at the the human, who was ready with his own counter against Gulp's following charge. In full speed, Gulp was in a head-on course towards the offending human.
Nathan pulled out his weapon and created a yellow shield that was powerful enough to halt the attack, and it was also powerful to push Gulp into the air and towards the cliff. However, the push was not powerful enough to shove Gulp into the base of the cliff.
"Damn!" Nathan hissed under his breath as he witnessed the failed crash, "Even if I could do it again, I can't do it right away!"
Nathan never understimated the intelligence of his opponent, especially if that opponent could run him down like a speeding vehicle. Things were not looking very good for him, but Nathan is also one person that is not so quick to surrender or give up easily.
Crash was a little confused about his friend's actions, but he was quick to realize that Nathan was trying to push Gulp into the tall cliff. The Bandicoot grinned and ran to Gulp before mimicking Nathan's mocking to Gulp, annoying the brute even more.
Spyro and Sparx saw this as well as Gulp's redirected charge towards Crash. Thinking quickly, the dragon pushed the marsupial out of the pathway of the dinosaur's stampede, while the dragonfly buzzed around the green monster's eyes to distract him.
"What were you thinking!?" Demanded the purple reptile, who was annoyed with Crash's apparent disregard for his own life.
"Don't worry about it, Spyro." Grinned the orange mammal, who was confident about his motives, "I'm only helping Nathan out."
"What do you mean, Crash?"
"You'll see soon enough." Crash winked at Spyro, who was confused about the Bandicoot's strange response.
The dragon watched as the orange creature went off to face the frightening and gluttonous Gulp, but soon, Spyro re-entered the battle, wondering what Crash had said to him before returning to the fight.
Sparx returned to Spyro's side and helped him fight off Gulp, who was becoming more annoyed with his opponents and their actions. This, in Nathan's mind, caused the brute to forget about the shield push.
Once both the green dinosaur and the dark-haired human were in the right places, Nathan taunted the brute once more, and Gulp charged at the human once again. The fairy-hungry beast was, once more, sent to the cliff after being repelled by Nathan's power shield. As before, Gulp was not sent into the cliff, but he was close enough that if the beastly Gulp was to charge at Nathan one more time, Nathan would be able to push Gulp back into the cliff. However, the group had to create a distraction great enough to cause Gulp into forget about being pushed into the air by Nathan's shield, and that was not going to be an easy task at that point.
Spyro and Sparx, both realizing what Nathan was up to, helped out in their own way. Spyro was on the ground, taunting the beast with Crash and Nathan, and Sparx was buzzing around Gulp's head to confused the beast.
After a while, Nathan wanted to try to execute the plan once more, but Gulp is moving too much for allow Nathan to proform the trick one last time.
"Nathan!" Spyro charged at Nathan in a rush to reach the human, "Why haven't you pushed Gulp into the cliff already?"
"Sorry, Spyro." Nathan replied, "I haven't been able to get Gulp when he's in postition, because he's moving around too much. I've got a bad feeling that he's learning about how to avoid me and my trap."
"That's not good." Spyro said, sounding very worry about the situation that he was also a part of, "There has to be a right to get him to stop moving!"
The human did not have a clue, and it was not looking good for Nathan and the others.
Then, a yell echoed throughout the air, and then Luna appeared out of nowhere and asked, "What's up, dudes?"
"LUNA?!" Nathan exclaimed in surprised at the werewolf's sudden appearance, "What are you doing here?!"
"Hunter and Zoe got worried about you guys," Luna smiled curtly as she spoke, "so we came to help you guys."
Then, an arrow flew at the face of Gulp, but it missed the beast physically, but it got the beast's attention. Soon, the one that fired the arrow, Hunter, was the object of Gulp's attention.
"Come on, ya over-sized lizard!" The cheetah shouted to Gulp, who started charging at Hunter, before dodging the on-coming charge.
After the end of the chomping attempt, Gulp noticed something familiar, and it was a fairy! Distracted by its potental snack, the brute started going after Zoe, who was swift enough to evade the over-sized bites.
As the fae distracted the hunrgy beast, Nathan realized that the three came to help him, Crash, Spyro and Sparx out, and he was grateful for it.
"Thanks, Luna." The male human said to the werewolf, who was quick to say, "Thank us after you send that over-sized garbage disposial in the base of the cliff!"
"Oh, right!" Nathan turned his attention to Gulp, who was at the right point at that moment. However, he did not taunt the beast that final time."
"Hey!" Luna shouted out to Gulp, who took notice of the she-wolf, "Ya stupid, gawking beast! Ya can't catch a cold, much less, a fairy!"
The shout from the werewolf did the trick; Gulp heard this and became downright outraged at Luna, who was, at that point, blowing raspberries and smooches at him.
With a roar that pierced into the air of the Fire Mountains, Gulp started to charge at the mocking werewolf, who was standing behind Nathan, and the dinosaur did not care who was in his way, as long as he was able to get at Luna. Nathan stood his ground, and he felt Luna's hands and the claw-like nails in his shoulders as the both of them braced themselves for the impact.
Spyro ran out of the way, and expected Luna to do the same, but when he saw that the werewolf was not fleeing from Gulp, he shouted at her, "Luna, get out of there!"
Luna heard the dragon, but she chose to ignore the warning. Nathan also heard the shout, but he only responded to Luna's lack of a reply to the dragon with a curt smile and a question.
"Luna, you knew that it's very impolite to ignore people like that."
"So?" Replied Luna, who was smiling curtly herself as she held on to Nathan's shoulders, and this caused Nathan to feel very confident in his plan.
Standing their ground, Nathan and Luna readied themselves for the impact of Gulp, the four-legged beast, and just before Gulp reached the duo, Nathan activiated the device to produce the shield. The shield and the humans were pushed back a little before Gulp was sent into the bottom of the cliff.
The huge cliff shook and crumbled to the ground and onto Gulp, who was unable to escape from the falling rocks, trapping the great beast. As the rocks buried Gulp, the group went to Nathan and Luna and cheered them at the successful plan.
"Way ta go, Nathan!" Hunter shouted in his cheer, "That guy didn't know what hit him!"
"Ya-HOO!" Crash jumped up and down in excitement, "That was so cool! You rock!"
"Uh-huh!" Sparx buzzed in agreement with the cheerers.
"Nice shot, Nathan." Spyro praised Nathan before he disdainfully added, "Even if you had to deal with Luna on your back."
"Dragon," Luna said in a warning tone, "I was helping Nathan in his attempt to send Gulp packing, and if I had moved, Nathan would not have been able to send Gulp into the cliff. So, the next time you've got a fly in your ear about me and Nathan helping each other...
"Luna..." It was Nathan's turn to sound like he was warning, "No death threats."
"I wasn't gonna threaten him with death." Luna stated in a tone of voice that could be descibed as 'lovey-dovey' to others, however, Nathan said, unaffected by the werewolf's sweet words, "No threats, at ALL."
"Fine!" Luna 'pouted' at Nathan, who only smiled, however, that moment was interrupted by Spyro's words against love.
"Great! Another set of warriors fall victim to love!"
Nathan was not impressed by the dragon's disappointing words, and he was well-prepared for them, although it was more intented for his father.
"If that's true, you're a victim yourself."
"What!?" Spyro was shocked by Nathan's well-choosen words.
"That's right, since friendship's a form of love." Nathan bluntly stated as he turned from the dragon and winked at Luna, who grinned at the sight; she knew what Nathan was doing.
"Well, I didn't mean- I mean,- I..." Spyro panicked at the human's words, and Hunter and Sparx, who realized what was going on, giggled among themselves.
Crash was confused about the whole thing, but he decided to remain quiet until he could ask Nathan about it at a later time.
As Spyro tried to explain himself, Nathan felt a weight on his shoulders and his back before feeling it push itself off of him. Looking behind him, Nathan saw Luna trying to stand on her two feet.
With an artful smile on his face, the ex-Cortex asked the she-wolf, "The curse finally affecting you to the point that you can't fight."
"Big time." Luna grinned sheepishly at Nathan, who grabbed the werewolf's arm and placed it over the back of his neck.
"Time to go, guys!" Nathan announced to the others, who agreed with the human male.
As the group was about to start off back to the Autumn Plains, Crash noticed that someone was missing and voiced it to the others.
"Hey! Where's Zoe?"
The others started looking around upon hearing the Bandicoot's words, and they realized that the fairy was missing.
"Where'd she go?" Spyro asked Nathan and Hunter, who only shrugged their shoulders in response to the question.
Crash looked at the destoryed cliff, where Gulp was trapped at, and thought out loud, "You guys don't think that that thing..."
"No," Luna stated strongly, "he didn't eat her whole; that's for sure."
Then, a familiar voice rang out to the group, which both surprised and relieved at the same time and breathe.
"Hey, guys!"
Turning to the direction of the voice, the group saw Zoe as well as hundreds of fairies coming towards the group, which surprised the group of six. The group of fairies surrounded the group, like a swarm of insects on a field of corn, although the result from the descention of the fae folk was far less destructive. The small magic-users thanked and praised the group, mostly Nathan since the human was the one to push him into the cliff.
"Look like you're got yourself a set of fans." Luna teased Nathan, who was blushing a little from the fairies' praises towards him, became even more red-faced from embarrassment.
"Luna, don't tease me like that!"
"Why?" Luna was not ready to end her playfulness at Nathan, who was still blushing at both Luna's words and the cheers of the fairies.
"Luna," Crash realized that his best friend needed his help with Luna, "back off, okay?"
"Fine." Luna 'pouted' again, knowing when the Bandicoot spoke to her in place of Nathan, who was grateful for Crash's intervention.
Once the fairies ceased and finished their praises and cheers, the group was on their way back to Alavar and the Autumn Plains. At the portal's entrance, the six-member group were greeted by Binaca and Elora, who have been waiting for their return and for the news about Glup and the attacked fairies.
