Hello my Lovlies! Guess who is on spring break? Me! Guess where I am and what I'm doing?
I'm at my parents' house and I'm knitting and working on my fanfiction.
Woo! Adventure! (Side note: Adventure Time is a great show to knit to)
Here's an new chapter, all dressed up and pretty just for all of you pretties!
Naruto didn't understand.
He actually knew that he didn't understand a lot of things and that he would probably never understand them, and he was fine with this. He was fine with the fact that he'd never get really complex maths and that he'd never understand how some people could actually like vegetables and hate ramen. He also knew there was a whole lot more that he would never understand, big things and little things, but the biggest thing ever, the thing her really needed to understand because he just didn't, was what had just happened.
He and Hinata had been talking, just talking and laughing and getting along the same as they had been for the past year they had been dating, and Naruto had been going in for a nice and happy kiss when she had looked at him. Just looked at him with so much hurt and betrayal, and while he had frozen in shock from that look she had managed to push him away and grab her things, disappearing from his apartment without a single word and one last heart wrenching look shot over her shoulder.
It had taken him a minute or so to go after her, calling for her to wait, but she had run away from him and into the Hyuuga compound, obviously sending the message that she really didn't want to talk to him. He would have tried to find some way to sneak past all of the Hyuugas keeping guard to get to Hinata, but he didn't think such efforts would be appreciated right at that moment, and he could only hope that Hinata would be feeling better the next day.
The next day came and he tracked down his girlfriend to a couple of different places, and each time he caught up with her she somehow pulled a disappearing act while pointedly not looking his way. He finally managed to catch her when she was training with Kiba and Shino, but when he had asked what was wrong with her she refused to even look at him except to shoot him a quick look that was just as hurt as the one she had sent him the night before. Other than that single look she had kept her head stubbornly turned from him even when he had tried to put himself directly in her line of sight, arms crossed defensively over her chest as she slightly hunched into herself.
And the worst part of all was that she didn't say a word to him, not a single one no matter how many questions he asked.
After about ten minutes she seemed to have decided she had had enough and turned to walk away, arms still curled around herself but her back straight and determined. She left Naruto standing there staring after her, eyes wide and hurt and his jaw slack.
This had never happened before and he had no idea what to do.
"Dude," He heard Kiba gasp behind him, and he whirled around to see the Inuzaka giving him a wide-eyed sympathetic and pitying look, Shino standing beside him seeming to radiate the same sentiments though you couldn't see enough of his face to catch his expression. "What did you do?"
"Nothing!" The blond practically screamed, running his hands through his hair and resisting the urge to simply yank the strands out from his frustration.
"You had to have done something! A big something since Hinata doesn't hand out the silent treatment for something small."
"Silent treatment?" Naruto repeated, not quite able to process the words.
"Yeah, I mean, I've had it done once to me before when we were younger, back when our team had only been together for a few months. And God, it was..." He grimaced, and Shino nodded pityingly.
"What did you do?" Naruto asked, hoping it would somehow give him a hint to what he had done. He still wasn't completely sold on the idea that his sweet, caring, loving girlfriend was even able to do something like give him the silent treatment. Not Hinata.
"Well," Kiba winced and scratched the back of his head sheepishly. "I made fun of this girl for having this really ugly haircut, and then I laughed at her and made her cry. I was just being a jerk kid, ya know? Trying to get back at her or something like that. Well, Hinata comes up to me and manages to tell me that I should apologize to the kid because I had been really mean, but I just kind of told her no way because I thought she was being silly. So then she gives me this look, and it was like I had just disappointed her more than any person in the entire world, and next thing I know she won't talk to me or look at me except to give me the look. It took me nearly two weeks to break and find the girl to apologize and ask for forgiveness, and she kept right on with the treatment until the very end." He shook his head.
"Nothing I could do could get her to stop. I thought she'd get over it because it was just Hinata, but she kept at it. She doesn't give up once she's determined or hurt enough, which is actually probably how she ended up staying stuck on you for so long. So what did you really do? I would have thought she couldn't get mad at you no matter what."
"I told you! I don't know! We were just talking and then she shot me that look and...!" Naruto gave in to the urge and tugged sharply on his hair, letting out a sound of frustration. Kiba and Shino just kept sending him those sympathetic looks until finally he couldn't take it any longer and he just left.
This could not continue for two weeks. There was no way. Kiba had said that all he had had to do was apologize, but Naruto didn't know what to apologize for. If he did he'd be doing it right that second because he was already ready to give in. He didn't know if he could survive another one of those looks.
He needed to figure out what had gone wrong, and for that he needed someone smart. So he went to the smartest person he knew.
"Shikamau!" He called, poking his head into the room his friend's mother had directed him to, "Shikamaruuuuu!"
"What?" Naruto followed the sound of the somewhat annoyed grumble to his friend where he was sitting at a shogi board, staring intently at the pieces.
"Whatcha' doin'?" Naruto asked as he made himself comfortable on the other side of the board, grinning when the exasperated eyes flicked up to him.
"Trying to work on my strategy from where I lost to my father in our last game. How did you get into my house?"
"You're mom let me in and told me to tell you that you had better tend to the deer before dinner or else."
Shikamaru rolled his eyes and grumbled, "Troublesome." But he did it quietly so that there was no chance of him getting caught.
They sat there in silence for a few minutes, Naruto fidgeting and Shikamaru ignoring him, until the blond finally broke down.
"I need your help."
"With what?"
"Hinata."
Shikamaru lifted his eyes from the board game at this so that he could level a very disbelieving look at his friend. "You want me to give you dating advice?" He asked in a tone that clearly conveyed how ridiculous he found this idea to be.
"No. Well... Not really but kind of." Naruto managed, shrugging his shoulders and grinning at Shikamaru in a way that usually charmed people into helping him. Though, apparently it didn't work on Naras since that flat stare questioning his sanity never once flickered.
"You see," He started, taking his silence as a sign to just go ahead and proceed, "We were just talking yesterday the way we usually do, and then all of the sudden she just gives me this look and runs off, and now she's giving me the silent treatment which can last for weeks until I apologize."
"Then just apologize."
"I don't know what I did wrong!"
"You obviously said something to her, you idiot. It hurt or offended her, and now she's waiting for you to apologize and understand what you did."
"But I don't know! How can I apologize if I don't know!" He practically screamed, and Shikamaru just shot him a look that clearly conveyed just how troublesome he found this entire thing to be.
"What did you say to her?" He asked with a good deal of patience, something that was needed when dealing with Naruto.
"I don't know... Stuff." It only took a look from Shikamaru for him to roll his eyes and hunch in on himself, face scrunching up as he really thought it over. "Umm... We were talking about... missions! That's it! We were just talking and then she just gave me this look out of nowhere and started to ignore me!"
"What did you say exactly?"
"Umm..." He scrunched his face up as he thought back, scratching his head.
They were laying together on the couch for some nice and relaxing cuddles, Naruto playing with the long strands of Hinata's hair as they talked, their legs tangled together.
"I think I-I'd want to keep on taking m-missions e-even after..." She flicked her eyes down and blushed, the pink spreading to her ears, "W-Well, even a-after I s-start a f-family." She quietly murmured.
Naruto grinned, his own face turning just the slightest bit red because he could just see Hinata kicking ass as usual, twirling and fighting and doing everything she was wonderful at, but with a little baby. A little baby, and maybe his blush was just a little too bright because when he thought of that little baby she held while doing all of these things, he saw it as having blonde hair and big blue eyes.
He chuckled, nuzzling his girlfriend closer a bit and making her giggle when his nose caught a sensitive spot of her neck.
"You're so cute." He told her happily, leaning in for a smiling kiss, but before their lips could meet she jerked back and shot him that look that brought him up short and made his stomach tighten with just how betrayed she looked...
Shikamaru was staring at him like he was the stupidest person he'd ever met, and Naruto just continued to sit across from him, thinking over the entire exchange unable to see what he had done wrong.
"Well?" Naruto probed, and his friend rolled his eyes.
"When you called her cute after she shared a very personal piece of her future dreams, something that she includes you in, by the way, she probably thought you were being condescending and that you didn't believe in her."
Naruto stared at him uncomprehendingly for a moment as he processed this, before blinking and physically jerking back in disbelief.
"What?!" He shouted, and Shikamaru rubbed his temples in an effort to appease the tension his disruptive and loud mouthed friend had caused there.
"She's sensitive, Naruto. She took what you said out of context, and she was hurt. All you have to do is apologize, tell her what you really meant, and the whole thing will be over with." He sighed and Naruto scrambled up to quickly go and to this, throwing his thanks over his shoulder as he went.
It took three hours to finally find her, and when their eyes met it only took the slimmest second before she jerked away, turning to once again start ignoring Naruto the same way she had been doing. But this time when he called out to her she must have heard something in his voice because she stopped, allowing him to catch up to her though she didn't yet face him.
"Okay," Naruto started instantly, anxious to get this over with as soon as possible, "I get why you're upset now, and I'm sorry. But you misunderstood." He took a breath, "You're mad because you think that I laughed at you, right?"
She shook her head. "I'm not mad." She said quietly, and Naruto had to hold back his smile because Hinata had finally said something to him, and that meant he was making some headway.
"Hurt then. But I didn't mean it the way you think I did, not at all. Not even a little bit! Because all that stuff you said you wanted to do, I know you can do it." She finally looked at him and Naruto started talking faster as if afraid he would lose her attention.
"You can do all of that stuff, have a family and continue going on missions and anything else you want to do, because it's you and I think you're incredible. So... Will you please stop ignoring me?"
Hinata bit her lip and tucked her hair behind her ear. "Y-Yeah." She looked down at her hands where she was playing with her fingers and cleared her throat. "I, um, j-just… I a-already know that it's a little far-fetched f-for me t-to do all of t-that and you just… I g-guess…"
Naruto grabbed her hands to stop her, already able to tell that where ever her fumbling led to he wasn't going to like it because she was just going to get more and more down on herself. Sometimes he just really wished that she would just stop all of that and start seeing the person he always saw when he looked at her.
"It's not farfetched. Not at all. Because it's you and you could totally do whatever you want to do because you're kick ass and just all around great. I mean, I've been saying all these things since like, forever, and you really need to start listening and realizing just how awesome you are." He grinned at her and squeezed her hands slightly. "Plus, you won't be alone when you do it."
Hinata smiled, eyes lowering to where their hands were joined, fingers linking together. Then quite suddenly, as she thought over his words, she realized what his last sentence could mean and her wide eyes quickly jerked up to his, her face flushing brightly.
Naruto was confused for just the slimmest moment before he too realized how his last words could have been perceived, and then he was quickly backpedaling.
"I, um, didn't mean me! I mean, it could be me though, that would be nice. But not too nice! I mean, it would be nice enough, really nice, really. I mean, I might want to, but not now, maybe in the future. But only if you wanted to! Because, you know, it's your choice and…" Both of their eyes were wide and their faces were both flushed violent shades of red. Naruto pulled his hands from her now slack grip and cleared his throat, scratching the back of his head.
"What I meant is that in the future when you do all of that stuff you want to do, you will be with the person who you choose to be with, so you won't have to do anything alone." He cleared his throat again. "Yeah."
Hinata couldn't stop blushing or staring at him dumbly, and she couldn't quite find the words to explain just how she felt in that moment. She was happy, but she couldn't figure out how to say just how happy. Were there even words to explain her feelings? Because in his own round about, fumbling way, Naruto had just confessed that the idea of a future with them together appealed to him. A future them, with children where she still fought and where they worked together so that neither would have to do anything alone.
And there was no way for her to articulate how wonderfully happy that made her feel.
"Naruto…" She started, trying to maybe at least stutter out a fraction of what she felt needed to be said. But, before she could he grinned at her and whirled away, grabbing her hand in his.
"Let's go get ramen!" He said just a tad too loudly, his face blushing a tad too brightly, and Hinata supposed that she should have been annoyed. After all, she had just been about to confess something major to him about her feelings and where she hoped they would be in the future. But… She was actually just kind of relieved.
"Alright!" She laughed as he tugged her after him, hurrying so that she could keep up with his quick pace.
They weren't quite ready to talk about that distant idea of a future yet. Not just yet. Not today. Not now.
But someday? Most definitely.
Well, there you are.
This was one of those chapters I mentioned fighting with, and I finally ripped and edited it until it was more to my liking. In fact, I've been doing that to a lot of my earlier chapters that I haven't been happy with, and when I have some time I'll post them.
Not much happened, with me, other than a 2 in the morning fire alarm caused by some nit-wit putting chicken in the Dorm's microwave and then leaving it to burn. I was so out of it that I just barely managed to put pats on, and I was out of the building before I managed to realise I didn't have shoes or a hoddie, so I went back into the building. I still managed to forget my glasses though, so I was pissed off and blind (and cold, it was freezing) for the better part of 45 minutes while we waited.
A hearty hello to my new baby lazyguy2879, and some confusion over magicmushr00m, who said that they wanted to promote my story. Well... What does that exactly mean, dear? I'm a bit confused. Thank you for the thought, though! What ever it is!
Well, I'll wish all of you a happy day (or night)! Toodles!
