Not long after Audrey had entered Justin's room, she felt his hand move in hers. She looked up, staring at his face. She could see his eyelids fluttering, so she hoped that meant he'd be waking up soon. She just sat, watching. Brooke had noticed her sit up straighter, so she did as well, watching her son, willing him to wake up. They didn't have to wait long before his eyes flickered open, closing quickly for another moment before opening up again. He looked around the room, noting his mom and Audrey both there. He squeezed Audrey's hand, but when he opened his mouth it took all his strength to say, "Water."
Jumping into action, Brooke stood up, grabbing the glass of water from the side of his bed and getting the straw into his mouth so he could drink, while Audrey helped him sit up. Once he was finished drinking all the water he could, they helped him lean back against the pillows again, getting him as comfortable as possible. "Well what do you remember?" Audrey asked while Brooke went off to get the doctor like she was told to do when her son woke up. He looked at her, licked his lips, and squeezed her hand, but did not say anything as he closed his eyes, trying to remember.
For a few moments it was silent, but then the doctor and nurses rushed in, surrounding him, and pushing Audrey and Brooke out while they looked him over. Audrey looked down the hallway and saw Lucas and Peyton coming. Peyton reached her first and pulled her into a hug. "Your father isn't a match," she said, and that was all she needed to say. Audrey was going to have to give her sister a kidney. She never in a million years thought that would be possible, but here it was. She swallowed harshly, giving a nod to Brooke, and then followed her parents to the nurse who was going to prep her for surgery.
When they passed the waiting room she wanted to stop in and say something, but she didn't know what to say. She wanted to say a lot of things to Logan, but these weren't things she wanted to say just because she was scared she might die while going under the knife. She wanted to say them because she was sure she meant them. That was why she had said nothing to Justin either. She needed time to think and sort out her feelings still. She gave her parents each a tight hug when she reached the nurse who was going to take her back to prep for surgery. "I love you," she told them, and they repeated the sentiment before watching her walk away.
Hours later, Audrey was opening her eyes, and she could feel the IV and hear the monitors beeping. She had closed her eyes moments after opening them the first time because the room was bright, but she tried to open them again and spotted her parents sitting on either side of her. She swallowed loudly, and Peyton and Lucas helped her drink some water before helping her sit up in a comfortable position. "You were great. Kristine took well to the kidney and she should be waking up soon. She'll still have some broken ribs and a broken leg, not to mention a concussion, so she'll need to stay in the hospital overnight, but she's going to be okay," Lucas said before Audrey could ask.
Nodding, Audrey absorbed this information. She was going to be okay. Kristine was going to be okay. Justin was going to be okay. At least, she hoped he was. She didn't know for sure because she had come back to have surgery before the doctor and nurses could come back out. She looked to her mother for answers, who immediately knew what she was looking for. "Justin is going to be fine, too. He woke up doing all the things he should be doing and the cat scan they took after he woke up turned out to be just fine. He'll be out tomorrow. They just want to keep him overnight for observation. It's mandatory," Peyton said, giving her daughters hand a squeeze.
Smiling slightly, Audrey was glad to hear that Justin was going to be okay, too. She wished she could see him right now, but she knew her parents wouldn't let her get out of bed until the doctors told her it was okay. She did feel the pain though, and she requested some more pain medication. She waited for the nurse to get in to give her some, and then had her parents help her lay down before the medicine could pull her under again. She fell asleep thinking of Logan and wondering what she was going to do. Would she have to remind Justin that he broke up with her, or would he remember?
A couple days later, Audrey was getting ready for her first date with Logan. She had talked to Justin, who did, in fact, remember everything. He had given her his blessing when she had mentioned asking Logan out on a date. So she had, and now here she was. She had been released from the hospital with some pain still, but that was to be expected, and she had been given a pain killer. She had taken one so she could get through the date, and she only hoped it didn't knock her out or make her too loopy or something else that could ruin the date.
There was a knock on the door and Lucas answered it. When he had heard Logan would be taking his daughter out on a date, he had requested of Peyton and Audrey to let him be there to see them off. He had also requested to talk to Peyton once the teens were gone. They hadn't had much of a chance to really talk since he had gotten back, since he was dealing with Kristine moving out of Nathan's house and into his house. Audrey was only at Peyton's house because she was staying for a couple of days, until she could get around on her own without her pain meds.
Stepping back to let Logan in, Lucas called for Audrey to let her know he was here. He had a menacing look on his face as he looked back at Logan, but he knew this guy, and he couldn't help but let his look soften. "I'd tell you to be good to my daughter, but I already know you will. And you already know that if you don't, you'll have me to answer to. Not to mention Audrey herself," he let out a chuckle. "You treat her right already, so don't let that stop now," he added, and then the pair entered the living room to wait for the blonde teenager.
In the living room, Peyton was waiting. She gave Lucas a look. "I hope you weren't scaring the poor boy," she said firmly. "I've known Logan since I moved back into town, and he's been nothing but good to our daughter. So you be nice to him. I know he'll be good to her," she left without saying that she hoped things would work out and that Audrey would be good to him too. Audrey hadn't had a real good relationship with Sean. In fact, it had been mostly bad with Sean, and she just knew that things between Audrey and Logan wouldn't be that way. They would be great, if she would let them be.
A few moments later, Audrey was looking at herself in the mirror, doing a final once over of her appearance. She knew Logan had seen her dressed up and dressed down, in pajamas, with her hair a mess and no makeup on. She also knew he liked her either way. She wanted him to be blown away by her appearance tonight, though. She wanted it to be perfect. She was wearing an aquamarine colored halter dress that brought out her eyes nicely, and she had her curls hanging down to the middle of her back. She had applied minimal makeup, knowing that he liked her natural look best. She finally decided that there was nothing else she could do, and walked out of her room and into the living room to meet her parents and her date.
The second Audrey stepped into the living room, and Logan saw her, he felt his breath being taken away. She looked absolutely gorgeous, and he didn't hesitate to tell her so. Her parents agreed, and they both gave her a hug and a kiss on the forehead before allowing the couple to leave. Audrey gave them a smile, knowing they would be talking, and told them to have fun, as she and Logan headed for the door. "Isn't that what we should be telling you?" Peyton joked. "Don't have too much fun, though. Remember that she just got out of the hospital, Logan," she added sternly and the teenagers laughed before letting the door close behind them.
Now that the two older blondes were alone, Peyton felt things getting awkward. She didn't know what Lucas wanted to talk to her about, so she just got a glass of wine, sat down, and waited for him to speak. He took a deep breath and sat down across from her. "I did a lot of thinking while I was away, Peyton," he paused and she froze, unable to tell from his mood where he was going with this. "Audrey was right. You were doing what was best for her. That's all you've ever wanted and I shouldn't hate you for that. I don't hate you for that. The whole time, I wished I could, and I couldn't, not even for a second," he told her and she took a deep pull of wine.
Wanting to ask where he was going with this, Peyton couldn't find the words, so she took another gulp of wine and waited for him to continue. "More than that, though, I miss you, so much. The month we had together was perfect, and having a kid together should only make it better. It will only make it better. That is, if you'll agree to date me again," he asked, his blue eyes rising to meet her green orbs. She knew what she wanted to say, but she was frozen. This was what she had been wanting since he had broken up with her, wasn't it? So why wasn't she leaping into his arms.
After that thought popped into her head, she did just that. She set her wine down, stood up and walked over to him. He stood up to meet her, and instead of saying anything, she let him pull her into his arms and kissed him deeply. Every ounce of feeling that she had every felt for him poured into that kiss and she felt all the feelings coming from his side of it too. She finally pulled away when she needed air, and he rested his forehead against hers. "Why, Lucas Scott, I thought you'd never ask. I would love to be with you again. What about your other daughter, though? What about Brooke?" she had to ask that, because she had been part of a love triangle with him and Brooke before. She wouldn't do that again.
Reaching up to rub the back of his neck, Lucas knew that question was fair. He'd also done his fair share of thinking about that. "Brooke is mother to my daughter. That's where it ends. She's caused too much drama in this family, including between Nathan and Haley, and I just don't think of her in that way anymore. My heart wants you, Peyton. Only you, and this time I'm going to listen to it. Brooke and I will be sharing custody of Kristine, because Kristine has agreed to see her mother every other weekend, now, but other than that, I really want nothing more to do with her," he promised. And with that said, they went up to the bedroom, to spend the night together as both of them had been wanting for since Peyton had told him about Audrey.
A/N: So, yay, Peyton and Lucas are back together. I think next chapter will be my last. I might do an epilogue, or I might do a sequel, depending on which ones you guys say you want more. So let me know what you think, please. I appreciate all the reviews I do get, but I always love more.
