Brian was in the kitchen when Olivia started to wake.
Olivia stretched out her hand to take hold of her phone to have a look at the time but she managed to knock everything off the bedside table.
'Crap.' She mumbled.
Brian heard the things fall to the ground and Olivia mumbled and immediately stopped making his coffee and walked through to Olivia's room. He knocked at the door softly to let her know he was there.
'Hey. Let me help you.' He said as he walked to Olivia who was kneeling on the floor by then.
'Clumsy.' She muttered
'Liv, sshhh.'
Once everything had been replaced onto the table, Olivia started to get up. She immediately let out a groan and returned to her haunches.
'Liv, slow down. Here, give me your arm and let me help you up.'
Olivia obeyed and let Brian help her till she was once again sitting on the side of the bed.
'So weak.' She muttered.
Brian wasn't sure in which sense she meant it but he guessed she was irritated with herself. 'Liv, you may feel weak for a few days and that is because your body went through so much but that does not mean you are a 'weak' person. If you were a 'weak' person we wouldn't be having this conversation because you wouldn't of made it out that house.'
For the first time this morning she looked at him. 'When did you get here?'
'A few hours ago.'
'How? I mean, how did you get in?' She knew she was been paranoid. This was Brian but after Lewis… She still didn't know how he had got into her apartment.
'Alex called me when you locked yourself in the bathroom.'
'What?' She looked in that direction. Suddenly she dropped her head into her hands and started to shake her head. 'Please tell me that was a dream. That I didn't … hit Alex. Please tell me I didn't.'
'Liv, look at me.'
She didn't.
'I did. Didn't I?'
'Liv, Alex understands. She knows it was a reaction to your dream and that you didn't mean it.' He knelt in front of her and slowly took her hands away from her face.
'Babe, look at me.'
'I hit Alex.' She was overcome with emotion.
'You were having a nightmare, Liv.'
She suddenly withdrew from him and sat further back creating space between them.
'Liv?'
'Be careful Brian. Apparently I attack my friends now.'
He just smiled. 'Oh no you don't. You are not pushing me away now… Not like this.'
'But Bri..'
'Liv, how many survivors whom you have worked with have had lashed out in fear?'
'A lot.'
'And how much of that was unintentional?'
'The majority.'
'And how many of your close friends such as Alex and myself know that?'
'I still don't want to hurt you!'
'Babe, we know. But please, please don't push us away.'
Olivia nodded.
'Okay. Now how about I order us some brunch?'
'Brunch?'
'Yeah Liv, its 10:45.' Brian smiled.
'Oh wow.'
'What you feel like?'
'Not sure.'
'Ok, the doc said we should start small and easy because you haven't eaten for a few days. How about some fruit or a smoothie?'
'A smoothie sounds lovely. Could we add some toast?'
'Sure thing. I'll go phone the order though. You stay in bed for now.'
'Thanks Bri.'
Within 20 minutes there was a knock on the door. Olivia's body tensed up immediately and without her consent.
'Hey, it's just them bring our breakfast.'
'I know.' She said softly.
'Just stay here I'll get the door. Don't worry they won't come in here.'
Olivia felt ashamed that she was so jumpy.
She heard voices and then the door shut again.
'I heard someone order breakfast.' Came a female voice.
'Alex!' Olivia was shocked.
'I met the waiter in the passage and said I'll bring the food in.'
'Alex, I am…'
'Bit late for breakfast isn't it?' Alex interrupted Olivia on purpose.
'Well. Someone slept till about half an hour ago.' Brian went along with Alex's game.
'Can I please get a word in here?' Olivia tried.
'Not if your sentence has the word 'sorry' in it.' Alex replied.
'But I…'
'So Brian what do you think of the Yankees' chances this season?' Alex began.
'Don't know. Hope they do better than last year.' Brian smiled. Only Alex could get away with this game with Olivia. Alex was seriously earning some points with him. He couldn't think of a better way of keeping this light.
'Guys!'
'Olivia, there is NOTHING to say about last night, okay? I mean it. Nothing. We're good. Now eat up or I'll eat it for you.' Alex smiled.
After about half an hour of chatting while Olivia ate. Alex stood up.
'Liv, I came now to drive a point home and because I have meetings over lunch and court all afternoon. I'll give you a call when I'm done but that might be very late because I need to prep tonight.'
'Thanks Alex.'
