Chapter 3
Mei POV
"Mei!" Asami ran into my house and squeezed me tightly. "Tonight will be sooo much fun."
"What's all the commotion?" My mother walked into the room and smiled. "Hello there."
"Hi," Asami smiled. "My name is Asami and this is Aiko." Asami wrapped her arms around Aiko who, too, greeted my mother. I closed the door behind them and guided them to my room.
"It's not much but…"
"It's perfect," Aiko told me and set her sleeping bag down. "I brought some romantic comedies and also some horror movies."
"I brought a dancing game," Asami bounced. "Can we play, pleaseeee?"
"Sure, why not?" I found myself smiling. It felt good having them to keep me company.
Yamato POV
Who does Kai think he is? I walked slowly to Megu-tan's house and stood in front of the lawn. The street light shined down on me and my guilt. I put on leg on the stairs but I just kept looking down at my feet. I can't help but think that he truly is right.
I have no reason to be mad at him at all. I was the one who betrayed him…for the same reason I am betraying Mei now. My image. I'm too nice…Even so, my body betrayed me and I knocked on her door anyways.
Kai POV
I looked up at the sky as I walked…That idiot is going to ruin her. My wanderings led me to a jewelry store. I stared through the window and my eyes found a single golden locket. Hmm…
Mei POV
We ate pizza, played games, and watch crazy movies. All night…I forgot all my troubles…I forgot Yamato. Everything was beautiful until they had to leave. I was left to my own devices. I lay on my bed and held onto my pillow. Closing my eyes, I let my mind wander… Happy images of Yamato…his smile…his hug…our first kiss…
Kiss…the image of me changed from me to Megu-tan…she was laughing at me… He's mine! He's mine now! She chanted…Tears fell softly…
"Mei!" My mother shouted. "Someone's here to see you."
I wiped my eyes and walked slowly to the living room, dragging my duck slippers on the floor. "Who is…" My eyes widened. "Kai…w-what are you doing here?"
"Enjoying that duckie pj set I see," He smiled with his hands stuffed his pockets.
I blushed instinctively. "Did…did you need something?"
"Yes. I wanted to know if you wanted to take a walk with me? I want to show you something." He smiled.
"When?"
"I was hoping now… I can wait while you change. Take your time."
My mom eyed us both and walked into her room. "Don't stay out too late."
I ran to my room and quickly changed into some jeans and a tshirt. I started worrying about my looks for some reason. I combed my bed hair and put on a little bit of lip gloss. Grabbing my bag, I walked to him and told him I was ready to go.
"You look beautiful," He smiled.
"Thanks…" I blushed. This is awkward. I closed the door behind us and followed him what seemed to be the longest walk I have ever taken. We walked for what seemed like hours. I softly grabbed his arm. "Are we…there yet?"
"Almost."
"You said that 20 minutes ago…"
"Trust me…"
"I do but we are on the side of a road and we just passed the welcome sign to our town."
"I'll carry you if you're tired."
"No, that's quite alright I think I'll be…" Kai grabbed me and ran with me in his arms bridal style. His speed was incredible. I squeaked and clung to his neck for support. He carried me to the top of a hill and sat me down on the ground.
"The view is beautiful."
"I like to go here often Mei," Kai looked up at the sky. "I'm glad I could share it with you."
"Why did you bring me here today?"
"You looked lonely to me…And I wanted to make you smile again," Kai turned to look at me. "I hate seeing you cry. There are some people too beautiful to cry…and you're one of those people. When your cries echo in my head, my own heart cries with you."
I just looked at him.
"I was not originally going to tell you…but you deserve to know."
"Deserve to know what?"
"That I love you."
