Chapter 4

"Why did you bring me here today?"

"You looked lonely to me…And I wanted to make you smile again," Kai turned to look at me. "I hate seeing you cry. There are some people too beautiful to cry…and you're one of those people. When your cries echo in my head, my own heart cries with you."

I just looked at him.

"I was not originally going to tell you…but you deserve to know."

"Deserve to know what?"

"That I love you."

Mei POV

I froze. I could not believe my ears. Tears started to well up.

"It's okay if you don't feel the same way," Kai told me, "I just felt like you should know. Yamato…. he doesn't know what he has. When I look at you, I see an angel who deserves everything."

I wipe my eyes.

"Don't cry please…I did not mean to make you cry."

"It's not that… It's just… I kinda…"

"You were hoping for those words from Yamato, weren't you?"

I nod my head as I cling to my knees.

"Well, for now, we are friends, okay Mei? But just you wait. I'll make you fall in love with me."

Monday came all too quickly. The excitement over the weekend came like a blur except for Kai… He said he will make me fall in love with him… He had smiled with such confidence but without arrogance. But… I cannot be with him. I am Yamato's girlfriend…not his.

I woke up for school like always and got dressed. I said goodbye to my mother and walked out the door but when I got to the stairs, I found a surprise. There he was. Kai was leaning against the stairs and when he saw me, he smiled.

"Morning!"

"What…What are you doing here?"

"I thought we could walk to school together."

"How long were you out here?"

"At six o clock"

"Oh my god, did the neighbors see you?"

"Yes, why?"

"No...No reason. Let's go." I grab his hand and run down the stairs with him. We walked to school together in awkward silence. He hummed while I looked down at my feet blushing.

When we got inside the school, we went our separate ways and went to our lockers. I started taking out my books when I heard voices say things about Megu-tan and Yamato.

"Aren't they the cutest couple?" "I wonder where she gets her hair done!" "They were meant for each other!" Ect. Ect. Ect. Every comment just pushed me further into the dark. I took a deep breath and went to class…without Yamato by my side again.

Kai POV

I watched Mei as she walked into her class sadly. What can I do to make her believe he's not the guy for her?

I saw some of her friends.

"Yo."

They looked up at me. "Who are you?"

"My name's Kai. I need to talk to you about Mei."

The taller one identified herself as Aiko and the big-chested one as Asami.

"Is she in trouble?" Asami asked.

"No…well her heart is. Yamato's a jerk. If I were her man, she'd never be depressed. I'd cut my arms off if I ever was a reason for her sadness."

"You like her don't you?" Aiko crossed her arms.

"I love her…and I can't let Yamato's involvement with Megu-tan kill her."

"This isn't going to be no boyfriend number two kind of thing is it?" Aiko raised her arms.

"No... I was thinking of getting rid of Yamato all together."

She smiled. "I like you. See us at the Karaoke place after school."

"I may be a little late. I'm going to walk her home."

"Take your time. Let the games begin."

Mei POV

School ended and it was time to walk home. I stood at the gate, waiting. A tall figure walked towards me.

"Mei…" That sweet voice… I remembered it. I looked up to see Yamato. At first I thought it was a dream so I rubbed my eyes and pinched my skin, but no, it was really him. Tears welled up in my eyes suddenly and anger took over me.

"What do you want jerk…"

"Mei… I'm sorry I haven't been walking you home. I got stuck at work late… I took the day off to be with you tonight…please?"

I looked up at him…and then started walking. He followed me and we walked in silence.

Kai POV

I ran to the gate but Mei was already walking. I cursed underneath my breath. Yamato is finally catching on but we will see who Mei will say I love you to…now won't we?

*Nefis- hello peoples. I know I have some very angry reviewers who wanted me to update so bad so here it is. I have more time now so there should be some more updates coming. Is Yamato actually going to fight for Kai right now? I brought him back because the original anime did make himwalk home with her again after a long time. Kai is soooo much sweeter in my opinion but let's just see what happens when Kai is not going to be so willing to just give her up.*
