Chapter 5
Mei POV
I walked quietly next to Yamato who just kept staring at me.
"You okay Mei?"
I did not say a word. I just kept on walking, hoping that he of all people could read me well enough by now.
"Look, I know I haven't been around a lot but I think I am going to quit the modeling business. It has been cutting into our time together."
Oh now you've figured it out. I balled my hands into fists. "I was so alone." Tears started flowing down my face. "I don't like to be alone…"
Yamato stopped right in front of me to hold onto my shoulders. "I'm right here, okay Mei? I promise I'm right here."
He grabbed me quickly and held me tight, stroking my hair. "I'm so sorry Mei. I really am."
We looked into each other's eyes.
"I truly am."
"Please don't leave me again…" I gently touch his face and kiss him on the lips.
Kai POV
Beads of sweat were dripping down my face and my cheeks were red. Here I am in the girly-iest store possible: Yuki's Secret. Not for the underwear of course but there's just so much of it.
"May I help you sir?" An older lady asked me, taking me out of my trance.
"Oh, yes," I blushed more and rubbed the back of my head. "I came to look for the bath essentials sale? Do you still have some?"
She gave me a small smile and led me to the front of the store. "Now, who may I ask is this for?"
"A very good friend. She gets stressed a lot."
"A girlfriend?"
"Oh no, she's not my girlfriend." I blushed harder. I wish.
She then handed me a huge basket full of bath stuff. "Here is the deluxe one. All our smaller packages were sold already. It is a lil bit more expensive but I think it well worth it."
The basket was beautiful wrapped and tied with a light pink ribbon. Inside of it was a large bottle of shower gel, a small bottle of bubble bath, and two bars of soap all the same scent of Caramel and Honey paradise. They also included a bath pouf sponge, a hand held, massager, massaging oil, and foot cream.
"Sure, I'll take it." I bought it and then walked out of the store. It was dark so I decided to take a short cut. Little did I know what was in store for me. I cut walked by the mini mart close to Mei's house and saw Mei and Yamato together. They were giving each other one last kiss. The sight of it made my heart drop and my anger grew. Quickly, I hid behind the wall and listened to their conversation.
"I'm so sorry Mei. I will be here with you from now on" was Yamato's parting words.
She waved goodbye and went up to her apartment. Sighing, I walk past Yamato. He stops in his tracks.
"Kai? What are you doing here?"
I turn around. "I should be asking you the same thing."
"I was walking Mei home."
"Well, I was going to see Mei."
His eyes widened. "Well, just look here. Mei is mine. You can see her during the school day but she doesn't need you prodding around her home at this hour."
"You sound angry. I suppose you should be if you truly cared. But let me let you in on a little something Yamato," I grimaced. "I like Mei. I like her a lot and I'm not going to let you hurt her."
"Look, I know what I did was wrong but I'm different now."
"Different? Ha." I scoffed. "You're no different than when we were kids. Yea, you remember. You remember everything. I bet you still hear the insults they spat at me and my screams as they held me with the light on. I know you remember. You must because that was the day you hit the lowest a person can ever go. Coward. Chump. At least I faced them as little as I was. See…if that had been you being bother, I would have jumped in no problem because you were my friend. I came back mostly to get my revenge but Mei taught me that revenge is not the way to go. A person can hurt you over and over again but the sweetest revenge is not to do the same to them but rather to let them live with the guilt that they hurt you and you're happy regardless. I'm sure you've heard the saying, 'they hate to see you smile'. I am without a doubt a better person because of her but you; you're the same no matter who tries to influence you. I love Mei and you do not deserve her. And I hope you're prepared for a fight because I will try my best to win her heart."
Enraged, Yamato grabbed me and threw a fist but I grabbed it and twisted his arm.
"Go home Yamato." I threw him down to the ground. "Run. It is what you do best." And with those last words, I set off for Mei's apartment where I set the basket there with a lovely card addressed to her, rang the doorbell, and made a run for it.
I will not lose, Yamato.
