"Doctor, where are we?" The Woman asked, looking around at the metal walls and floors.
"We are in the Zygon ship." He announced, fiddling with his screwdriver.
"Brilliant." River muttered. "Where's the Zygon?"
"Somewhere else on the ship, no doubt."
Clara stood stock still, trying to process what had just happened. The Doctor had just crashed her wedding, and it turned out her husband to be was really a shapeshifting alien. A shudder ran through her as she dared to imagine what would have happened if she had married that… thing.
"Why did you bring us here?" River asked.
The Doctor gestured widely. "The Master is on board somewhere. I had to come back and get him, of course."
River glared at him. "Why did you leave him here?"
The Doctor held up his hands defensively. "Hey, it wasn't my fault! He stayed behind because he said he had to get somebody… or something like that. It wasn't my decision."
"Who else would be in this place?"
"I don't know!"
The Woman intercepted them. "Whatever the case, we have to find him and get out of here before the Zygons capture us."
"Well, you guys are going to find the Master." The Doctor said as he pushed Clara, who was still in a daze, towards the other women. "I'm going to finish some business. Be back in a jiff!"
"What…?" The Woman began, but before she could get any further, the Doctor had pulled out his screwdriver and teleported away.
"Well that's just great!" River exclaimed, throwing up her hands in exasperation. "That idiot has left us here alone on some alien ship that's who-knows how big, to find the Master. And, he left us completely unarmed not to mention, with this place probably crawling with Zygons!"
"Don't worry." The Woman said as she placed an arm about Clara's shoulders. "He knows what he's doing, despite the fact that he uses some quite… unorthodox methods."
She snorted. "You better be right."
The Master had trudged for what felt like miles through the ship, carrying the girl the entire time. He somehow had narrowly avoided the Zygons several times. How he had remained unseen for so long, he did not know.
He was tired. His body hurt from lack of food and water for so long, and the girl seemed to grow heavier with every step he took. He silently cursed the Doctor in his head, wondering what was taking the idiot so long. He felt like he had been here for weeks on end, and he had no clue how to get out of this place. He had gone through hall after hall, with no luck. There were no doors and no windows, just solid metal.
He had nearly given up hope of the Doctor ever coming to help him, when suddenly, he heard voices. They were faint, echoing through the metal corridors to him, but they were most assuredly human voices, not the gurgling hisses of the Zygons.
He started running as fast as his tired legs would carry him, hope springing afresh in his hearts. He rounded corner after corner, pausing every now and then to listen for the voices to affirm which direction they were coming from, before swiftly starting up again.
At last, he rounded the last corner to find himself faced with the Woman, Clara, and River.
"Found you!" He panted, adjusting the girl in his arms. "Where's the Doctor?"
The trio, looking quite odd in their wedding apparel, remained silent, staring at him.
"What?" The Master asked, feeling mildly annoyed. "What are you all staring at? It's me!"
Still, they did not answer. They appeared to be staring at something next to him. He turned and found himself looking at… himself.
The Doctor ran around his TARDIS console, grabbing tools at random. He was going to fix this thing, if it was the last thing he did!
He started stitching wires together, hoping and praying that he would get it right just this once.
"Oh no…" The Woman murmured.
Clara didn't know what to say. She had no words. She was already in a daze about the whole "fiancé turning into a blood sucking monster" thing, but this was too much.
Before her stood two masters, both exactly the same. Same ragged hair, same messy, torn clothes. Both carrying a strange little girl, who was curled up in their arms.
"What?" The Master on the right snapped. "What are you all staring at? It's me!" Then, he turned, looking at the duplicate, a shocked expression slowly making its way onto his face.
"Well, one of them is a Zygon." The Woman said.
"Obviously." River replied. "But the question is: which one? Oh Doctor, where have you gone?"
The one on the left stepped forward. "I'm the real one!"
"No!" The one on the right pulled him back. "I'm the real one!"
"He's just saying that to trick you!"
They turned to face each other angrily.
"You know I'm the real one!" The one on the right hissed.
"Do I?" Left retorted. "For all we know, you could be the Zygon in disguise!"
"'We?' There is no 'we'. You're the monster! I've been roaming these empty halls for hours looking for help, and you're just imitating me!"
"I've been roaming the halls! You're the one that tried to marry my fiancé!" Left stabbed a finger in Clara's direction.
Right brought his face close to his duplicate. "Don't you ever compare me to you, you spineless scum! I know for a fact that you are the monster, you tried to marry Clara, and you're the one responsible for the harm inflicted on this girl!"
"Well, there's no proof, is there? There is no possible way for them to tell which one of us is which! We're exactly the same in size, stature, and appearance!" Left hissed.
Right turned to face Clara. "Clara, you know I'm the real Master!"
"No, I'm the real one!" Left growled.
Then, in unison, they both uttered two words: "Clara, please."
Clara was completely torn. She had no idea what to do. They were both staring at her with those big, sad, hazel eyes that absolutely melted her. Both of them looked like sad little lost boys, and she wanted to hug them both as tight as she possibly could, but the question remained: Which was the Zygon and which was the Time Lord? She absolutely no way of knowing, and the wrong pick could be fatal.
They stood there in silence for far too long. And then, the sound.
The sound of hope.
The trio of women whirled around to see the blue box materializing in the corridor behind them. Clara could not help a huge smile. She felt so relieved that she was almost in tears.
The TARDIS door squeaked open and the Doctor stuck his head out, grinning madly. "Now to see who is the monster and who is the man!"
A/N: I realize now that Clara never spoke once during this chapter. O.o
