Jane and Maura were carefully walking towards the carousel where their bags were being checked. After arriving at Dublin's International Airport, Maura was shocked when immigration entered the plane and immediately demanded to see their luggage, arguing that it was mandatory after a known mafia family member entered the country. It took hours, a call to Sergeant Korsak and a very angry Jane Rizzoli, to let them know that Maura was the Chief Medical Examiner of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and that they were actually invited to Ireland. Maura just shrugged, embarrassed by the situation and upset about the fame that her father had. Also, she was surprised that the police of Dublin was faster at identifying her as a relative of Paddy Doyle than the Boston PD.
"I mean, seriously, I'm not a criminal mastermind but even I wouldn't make my entrance into Ireland that public if I wanted to be unnoticed." Jane said sarcastically."Sometimes the stupidity of people surprises me."
Maura shrugged. "I'm sorry Jane. I had no idea..."
"It wasn't your fault." Jane interrupted her while holding hands. "The choices your father made do not define you. And it pisses me off that they want to throw his shit on you."
"Language." Maura scolded Jane sweetly. "And I agree. Maybe that's why he gave me for adoption to the Isles, so that this wouldn't happen."
"If he did it because of that then that's one of the few good things that he has ever done for you." Jane said softly. "Have you ever wondered how your life would have turned out with Paddy as your father?"
Maura was surprised by the question. "I don't think I have had the time." she answered honestly. "With all the things that have been going on, imagining situations where I am Paddy Doyle's daughter are the last thing on my mind."
Jane nodded. "Sorry. I didn't mean to be rude."
Maura smiled softly and took Jane's hand. "Have you been thinking about what it would have been like to live with your birth family?"
"Maybe." Jane whispered. "You know, I always knew that I didn't quite fit with my family. I mean, I consider myself a Rizzoli, and if you look at Frankie and I, then you know that we are related. But then again, there were signs that I didn't see before. No pictures of me with my parents at the hospital, or even official records from the city." she laughed loudly. "They told me that the paperwork was lost when the public office that held them had a fire. I mean, how naive can I be?"
Maura smiled sadly. "At least your adoptive family loves you Jane."
Jane immediately felt guilty for complaining. "I'm sorry Maur. I must sound like such an asshole."
"Not at all. You sound conflicted."
"I am conflicted." Jane added softly. "When Korsak said that my life would never be the safe after surviving that attack with the perp that had the Medusa thing, I didn't believe him. Not until all of this happened at least."
"Do you regret chasing after that man?" Maura asked, suddenly afraid of Jane's answer.
"Not at all." Jane answered truthfully. "Because I got to meet you."
Maura smiled, and after looking around she leaned forward and kissed Jane deeply.
"I love you."
Jane smiled and grabbed Maura's hand, leaving a trail of kissed on it because peeking her lips again. "And I love you too."
"Well, well. Now that you got all cozy and had that small pep talk I suggest we start moving." Carlota said from behind them.
Jane and Maura flinched at hearing her voice from so close.
"What the fuck Carlota! Don't you know what it means to have a private conversation?" Jane said angrily. "And besides, we had no idea we were going to meet you so soon."
"I assumed that you would be willing to meet as soon as possible dear. After all, we are just trying to save the world as you know it from total chaos and darkness." she said sarcastically.
Jane was getting herself ready to retaliate, but stopped when she felt Maura's hand on her back.
"I expect you to know of a safe place where we can talk?" Maura asked while looking around.
Carlota nodded. "I'm afraid that your little fiasco with the Dublin police alerted our enemies of your arrival."
"You can thank Paddy for that." Jane spat while grabbing Maura's and her bag.
Carlota merely acknowledged Jane and kept on moving. "I don't think I have to tell you of the dangers that you are facing?"
Maura nodded. "Of all places in the world, why did it have to be here in Dublin?"
"Magic is very powerful in Ireland." Carlota said while approaching a wall and quickly passing her hand over it. "It has always been like an epicenter for magical things and creatures." she continued after finally lowering her hand.
There was a big crack coming from the wall, and to Jane's surprise, the wall opened. "So it has always been about magic?" Jane asked. "What about the chicondria and genetics?"
Before Maura had an opportunity to answer Carlota interrupted. "Magic, dear niece, is what allowed for the first humans to have abilities. After that, it was mere evolution and passing the gene from generation to generation. Nevertheless, there are places around the world that have concentrations of magic, and when faced with these concentrations, the people around the area can grow to develop abilities."
"So abilities can be both inherited and absorbed from a magical environment?" Maura asked surprised.
"Like the pot of gold under the rainbow?" Jane asked sarcastically.
"Yes." Carlota answered Maura. "And although often romanticized and fake, myths and legends do have to come from some real fact." she looked at Jane and smirked. "Now, if the both of you are done with questioning me about magic, I suggest we move along."
The two women nodded and followed Carlota closely, making sure of memorizing the route that they took and places around it. If it weren't for the situation in which they were in, Jane was sure that she would have enjoyed Dublin. The people were friendly, the weather was nice and it was very green. She smiled after thinking of that description.
"What are you laughing about?" Maura asked amused.
"I'm a very simple woman." Jane answered while laughing again. "I was thinking that I like Dublin because it is very green."
Maura cackled. "Although simple, very true dear. Coming from Boston, to see this must be surprising."
"Aren't you surprised?"
"Well, when I studied in Europe, I went to Gales during the summer and it does share some similarities with Dublin." Maura said while blushing softly.
Jane smirked. "You weren't supposed to be in Gales, right?"
Maura nodded. "Let's just say that having a credit card with unlimited funds does have certain advantages."
"Who did you follow there?"
"How did you know I was following someone?" Maura asked surprised.
"The way your eyes were staring into nothingness, like remembering." Jane said wistfully.
"His name was Ian, and we met in Doctors Without Frontiers. He was so full of life and willing to enjoy every moment of it." Maura laughed sadly. "I suppose that's what attracted me to him. My ability was starting to develop, and to have that ray of sunlight in a world filled with death can be quite freeing."
Jane nodded in understanding, urging Maura to continue.
"I thought I loved him. And I thought he loved me too. When he announced that he was leaving, I followed him here. At first it was wonderful, but months passed and I learned why he left doctors without frontiers."
Before Jane asked Maura answered.
"He was stealing supplies and then selling them for his own benefit." she whispered softly. "When I confronted him about it, he threatened to get me involved and sent to jail if I went to the cops. Eventually I did, and after testifying against him I packed my bags from Gales and came back to the states. I was devastated, and mother kept telling me how right she had been the whole time about Ian and it just made me feel more miserable. That was when I decided to apply for a job at Boston PD. The dead don't complain as much as the living." she added sarcastically.
Jane smiled softly and took her hand. "Well, I guess his lost is my gain."
Maura smiled. "Thank you."
Jane nodded. "So weird Carlota left us to have this one on one."
"She is not so terrible."
"Terribly annoying and rude." Jane said bitterly.
"I can hear you dear." Carlota sang.
"You see, intolerable." Jane hummed. "And to think we are related."
"Well, it is actually not so shocking." Maura started to say.
"What?!"
"I mean..." Maura tried to explain but then decided to stay quiet.
"No Maur, finish that thought." Jane threatened lightly.
"Maybe the two of you clash so much because you are very much alike." she whispered.
Jane cackled. "I'm not rude, or mind up other people's business."
Maura just looked at Jane.
"I don't." Jane said.
"You do." Carlota suddenly said. "Dear, your career is all about minding other people's business."
"She does have a point there." Maura added.
"Ok, if I wanted to have my girlfriend join my aunt, the oracle of delphi, on a conversation about me I, would have told you that a long time ago." Jane said sarcastically.
"She's so sassy." Carlota joked lightly, making Maura laugh. "It's quite refreshing."
"She is protective." Maura justified her. "She protects the people she cares about."
"She can totally hear you." Jane said softly, pretending to be upset with Maura but in reality being quite the opposite. "And she can defend herself, thank you very much."
"I know that darling." Maura cooed while kissing her cheek. "But we both know that Carlota likes me better and listens to me more."
"She does have a point." Carlota added while smiling softly. She could pretend all she wanted, but she was happy for her niece. Overall, she did manage to find her soul mate. She stopped herself and grabbed Jane's hand, making her stop. Maura stopped too, but after Carlota made her a sign that told her to keep moving she just shrugged and kept on going.
"You are so lucky." Carlota said quietly.
Jane saw that Carlota was looking at Maura and nodded. "I know."
"Although she doesn't realize it, she is so much like her father. Willing to honor promises no matter the cost."
"Which is a good thing." Jane said carefully.
"I'm afraid that in her case it's not."
"Carlota, speak clearly." Jane said upset. "No more stupid riddles and half-answers."
"I'm afraid it will be her undoing." Carlota said sadly.
Jane stopped moving, suddenly her feet not responding . She looked at Carlota, fear in her eyes."You have seen something." Jane whispered. "What did you see?"
"I'm afraid I cannot tell you that."
"Can't or won't?" Jane asked angrily. She was tired of all the games.
"Can't dear." Carlota whispered. "Her future is dark around the corners. I can only see her weakness destroying her. How, where and when it will happen I cannot see."
"Are you telling me that the love of my life is meant to die?" Jane whispered with fear.
"No Jane." Carlota said while grabbing her niece's hand. "I'm telling you that Maura's destruction will come from her weakness. Death is not the same as destruction."
"That does not console me at all." Jane said angrily. "The mere thought of her being in pain..."
"Is unavoidable." Carlota finished for her.
"Why are you telling me this now?" Jane whispered sadly. "If there is nothing I can do to stop it, why even mention it?"
"So that you make her forget all about it until it happens." Carlota said. "What you two have is so special, so unique. Not many people are able to have what you two found by mere chance."
"And what's that?" Jane whispered, feeling heartbroken and defeated.
"True love." Carlota said simply. "For us magical creatures, true love is the purest and most powerful magic in the world."
"When you love someone, doesn't that make it true love?"
"Not necessarily. To be another person's true love is almost like sharing one heart. It's like finding that other human being that complements you and was specifically thought and molded to be your polar opposite."
"Like Ying and Yang?" Jane asked curiously.
"Alpha and Omega, the different names that it has acquired over different cultures don't matter. The reason I'm telling you this is because there will come a moment in which you will remember what we spoke about and you will have to make a decision."
"There you are, being all cryptic again." Jane huffed angrily. "How can I protect Maura from herself if our destiny is so messed up?!"
"Because that's not your destiny." Carlota said sadly. "Maura will bring her own undoing, of that I'm certain."
"I refuse to believe that." Jane screamed. "I refuse to believe that our whole life is written for us and we are forced to follow it like a script."
"Our lives have different paths, paths that have been left for us before we even existed. Which path we choose, that is our decision." Carlota said calmly. "And Maura is going to choose the path that she believes is the right one. There is nothing you can do about that and you know it."
Jane nodded softly. "Because she's so stubborn that no matter what I do or say, she will always choose what she deems is the right thing for others." She felt tears falling from her eyes. "Which is why I love her."
Carlota smiled sadly. "Then show her, before it's too late. Be there for her, make her be sure of herself and the decision that you took together."
Jane nodded and grabbed Carlota's hand, squeezing it tightly. "Thank you."
"For what? For bringing you more pain?" Carlota asked bitterly.
"For being honest." Jane said. "I know it must suck, to know who you are going to lose. I bet it must be hard to learn and invest in others when you know what will happen to them. So I thank you for doing that with us."
Carlota looked at Jane, surprised by her deep understanding. "You are welcome."
"Now." Jane said while cleaning her tears and taking a deep breath. "I'll go find the love of my life and be with her until everything gets fucked up."
Carlota nodded. "We have a couple of hours before they find us."
Jane nodded. "So there is really nothing we can do? We are meant to just let them find us?"
"I'm afraid so." Carlota whispered. "I'm sorry, for everything Jane."
"I don't regret a single thing." Jane said while smiling softly. "Even if we end up dying tomorrow, because it got me to meet Maura."
Carlota smiled. "Spoken like a true Torrenti. I know my sister would have been so proud of you Jane Rizzoli."
Jane smiled softly. "Thank you Carlota. I guess even uptight bitches like you have a soft side."
Carlota laughed loudly. "You wish, Jane Rizzoli, you wish."
Maura was moving around the old building carefully, a little afraid at setting some kind of bubby trap or hidden mechanism. It had been a couple of minutes since Carlota and Jane asked her for some time alone, and honestly she was quite scared of her girlfriend's attitude towards the woman. I hope she doesn't do anything stupid, she thought while scolding herself for leaving them alone. Not that Jane's behavior was surprising, and that the woman was undeserving of it, but nevertheless, if they wanted to have a chance at succeeding then they needed the Oracle of Delphi at their side. I should go check on them, she decided, but then again stopped herself from actually moving. It would be so rude to interrupt, her years of etiquette education argued. She scolded herself. Etiquette doesn't matter right now! She continued to tell herself while moving from side to side. You know what, to hell with etiquette. Maura started to move towards the end of the hall. She was so distracted that she didn't see Jane coming and they crashed with each other.
"I apologize." Maura started to say, truly embarrassed.
"You apologize?" Jane mocked her lightly. "It is I who must apologize."
"Jane! I was so worried about you killing Carlota." she scolded her girlfriend before hugging her. "And don't mock me."
"Me, mock you? How could I?" Jane continued to mock her.
"I'm glad you find this whole situation amusing." Maura scolded her again. "So..."
"Sooo..."
"What did Carlota tell you?"
Jane flinched involuntarily. "She told me she was proud of me."
Jane immediately felt guilty when she saw Maura's huge smile. She wasn't technically lying, but still, it felt awful to do it. She could still remember Carlota's warning.
"Jane wait." she saw Carlota stopping her. "I suggest you keep this conversation between us."
"Are you kidding me? I have to tell Maura, I have to at least try."
"It won't change anything. What it will do is make Maura paranoid of every decision and thought that she has. Trust me, to live like that is terrifying." Carlota answered softly.
"I cannot lie to her." Jane whispered. "I cannot lie to Maura."
"I'm afraid you will have to Jane."
"I told you she wasn't so terrible!" she heard Maura tell her while smiling.
"Turns out the ice queen does have a heart after all." Jane tried to be sarcastic, but it was half-felt.
Maura noticed that Jane was not quite herself. "Something wrong?"
"No." Jane lied, the word hurting her as soon as it left her mouth. "I'm just nervous about this whole trip, you know."
Maura nodded, not completely convinced but also understanding how Jane could feel because she felt like that too.
"If we are together." she started to say while hugging her. "Then nothing can go wrong."
Jane nodded, tears falling from her face.
"Hey, why are you crying?" Maura asked.
"I just love you so much. You know that I love you, right?" Jane ignored Maura's question and grabbed her face.
Maura flinched a little at Jane's intensity but nevertheless kept her face still. They looked at each other and Maura's saw Jane's deep love but also fear.
"I love you with every part of me." Jane continued saying, tears falling again from her eyes. "Like I never thought I would love someone. To be in this world without you..." she stopped and took a deep breath. "Is unimaginable."
"Jane, you are scaring me." Maura said. "Please tell me what is going on?!"
Jane again ignored Maura's question and kissed her deeply, trying to forget what she learned from Carlota, what their fate would be and how it was unavoidable. How it could be the last time that they shared a kiss. She doubled her efforts and moved her tongue under Maura's lips, asking her for entry. When Maura opened her mouth she immediately felt their tongues clash, and without caring who could see them, she lifted Maura from the ground and led her down the corridor.
"What room?" she husked.
Maura pointed to one green door on the left, and after quickly opening it, they crashed to the nearest wall and started kissing again. Maura was overwhelmed by Jane's attentions, and although she felt them longing, she needed this as much as Jane did. Going against her brain, she took her shirt off and attacked Jane again, trailing kisses down her neck and taking small bites down her collarbone.
While it was not enough for Maura, Jane kept trying to lower Maura's skirt, her desire dominating her actions and making her hands be all clumsy.
"This has to come off." she heard Maura husk while opening the bottoms of Jane's jacket and tossing it somewhere around the room.
Jane murmured her agreement, and after feeling Maura's hands trailing her stomach, she lowered her head and attacked Maura's bosom, watching immediately how it perked under her ministrations. She raised her left hand, and in one swift move, she unclasped Maura's bra and tossed it under the pile of clothes that were accumulating around the small room. Now that Maura's breast were free, she lowered her head again and took a big bite, making Maura scream her name.
Maura was losing herself to Jane's tongue, and while it felt really good, she knew she needed to feel more of Jane's body. She raised Jane's head from her breast, and after giving her a longing kiss, she lowered herself and started to take Jane's pants off. She could see Jane staring at her with lustful eyes, and after only leaving her in her underwear, Maura started to leave kisses over Jane's legs, stopping herself over Jane's panties and leaving one big wet kiss. Jane moaned, and Maura could have swore that her determination to tease Jane was ending. She couldn't take it anymore, and without leaving her position in front of Jane's panties, she moved her hands upward and took her bra off, immediately replacing the soft fabric with her hands and pressing softly.
"Mauraaaa." Jane whimpered, already feeling on the verge. She was a little embarrassed by how short it took her to get this ready, but it was Maura, and their deep connection made every touch be felt deeply under her core and soul. Without realizing it, she lowered herself and kissed Maura deeply, not caring that she interrupted Maura's turn.
"I love you so so much." Jane whispered near Maura's ear and bit her lobe softly. "Every touch of yours makes me get so wet."
Maura gasped and held her breath, not used to Jane being a dirty talker. Nevertheless, she felt so aroused by it. "What else do you feel?"
Jane continued to kiss Maura's neck, stopping at her breast and licking it. "I feel like your fingers are all over me, touching every part of my body while leaving a hot trail behind." Jane purred and stared at Maura's green eyes. "I want you so bad Maura."
Maura gulped at Jane's intensity, and while looking at her, she lowered her hand and lowered Jane's panties. Once they were off, she took a step forward and laid them on the floor, slowly pushing her body on top of Jane and grinding deeply. Jane moaned, her own breaths coming faster because of the excitement that she felt between her legs. She couldn't take the teasing anymore, and in a quick motion she took Maura's panties off and lowered her fingers to Maura's clit and started touching her.
"Oh Janeee." Maura purred. her own desire increasing because of Jane's fingers.
"You feel so good." Jane whispered near Maura's ear.
"I want you inside now." Maura whispered confidently.
Jane nodded and, without further thinking, inserted two fingers and started to move them inside Maura. Hearing Maura whimper after every thrust was doing wonders to Jane, and she almost went to Cloud 9 when she felt Maura's hand move between them and enter in one swift motion.
"Oh good." Jane screamed, not caring about the neighbors. "Right... there..." she managed to choke out when Maura went straight for the kill.
Both women were reaching an intense level of oblivion, and at the peak the two of them looked at each other. That was all it took for them to reach ecstasy and collapse. Maura was smiling contently, loving the feeling of Jane's body over her.
"I love you so much Jane." Maura sighed happily before sleep started to overtake her.
"Me too." Jane whispered, kissing Maura's forehead and caressing her cheeks. "I would die for you, Maura Dorthea Isles."
Maura smiled and nuzzled herself under Jane's arms and fall asleep on the floor of the hotel room. It took Jane a lot longer to close her eyes, the fact that she was terrified of losing any kind of moment with Maura being too terrifying. She felt tears streaming out of her eyes again, and after peppering Maura with soft kisses and promises she silently cried herself to sleep.
P.D: So! As always, it is a little difficult for me to write sex scenes and I hope this one was good enough! I know there are probably some questions that you may all have.
1. Jane feels guilty about lying to Maura, specially since until now, she has never done it (at least consciously).
2. Maura is suspecting of Jane, but let's face it, she is too good and forgiving for her own good (something that will be exploited, as Carlota told Jane in this chapter).
3. I am aware that Carlota's explanation of Maura's weakness was vague, and the reason behind this is that in the few chapters left I will answer it.
4. The future according to Carlota, is not set up on stone, but the possibilities are (what this means is that the choices that we make cannot be predicted, but the different paths can, which is why she can see something happening to Maura).
Any other question that you have don't hesitate to ask!
