Author's note: So officially Special Homicide Unit is complete! It has been a fun and crazy ride and I want to thank you all for your support and reviews. As I said before this is not the end, the second part of this serie focusing on OUAT and Emma and Regina. If you liked this story I encourage you to read the next one, since it will be during the same time-frame as Boston Homicide and then join where Jane and Emma get switched. I will be posting the first chapter of the second part of the series soon, posting a small reminder here in this story so you can find it. Thanks again and hope to hear from you soon! :)
When she opened her eyes again, Jane felt the softness of grass on her face, tickling her. Strange, she thought while trying to orientate herself. Her heart was aching terribly, Maura's crying face forever imprinted on her mind. Not knowing what could have happened once she fell, she was a little glad at being alive. Yes, I'm alive, but where the hell am I? She scolded herself for taking her sweet time at staying down. If she wanted to get back to Maura she needed to stand up and face the bull by its horns. She had made a promise to herself, one that she intended to keep, destiny be damned. She defied destiny once by sacrificing herself so Maura could live, and if she already accomplished that, then who could tell her that it couldn't be done again. Hell, she was Jane Rizzoli for one reason, and that was because she was stubborn. Stubbornness works now, she continued her internal monologue. She would have continued with it were it not for the muffled voices that she heard around her. People! Thank God. Maybe they will be able to help me, she finally finished while moving her face up and facing the sky, revealing her identity. What she saw left her completely speechless. In front of her was a small group of people conformed of three women, 1 man and a child that were dressed rudimentary, if that is one way of putting it. They were completely shocked of seeing her, and her attention went through each one of them, ending on the olive skin woman with chocolate eyes. She looked as if she had been crying, and after staring at each other she shook her hand, a fireball appearing on her hand. Jane flinched, immediately trying to focus on her power of replication and she also had a fireball on her hand.
"I do not want to harm you." she addressed them all. "But I am lost and I need help."
The woman with the chocolate eyes still held her fireball, but the rest of them lowered their weapons, which Jane just noticed were bows and swords. Where the hell am I?
"Regina..." she saw a petite woman with long brown hair and white skin say. "Her misunderstanding seems genuine."
"Snow, she is standing where we last saw Emma. She has to know what happened to her." she choked the last part out. "And look at what she is wearing. She is definitely from there."
"She can totally hear you." Jane pointed a little rudely.
The woman with brown eyes snorted and kept ignoring her, but she could see that the small boy chuckled softly.
"Who are you and where are you from?" the man with blonde hair asked.
"My name is Jane Rizzoli and I'm a detective from the Boston PD."
"Boston." the woman named Regina whispered sadly. "Emma is in the real world." she said dejectedly.
"We will find her, Regina." Snow said fiercely. "If there is one thing you have learned from us Charmings is that we will always find each other."
The blonde man nodded. "You were once against us Regina, but now you are part of our family, and we never abandon family. We will find Emma."
Jane saw Regina crying softly into Snow's shoulders, the pixie hair woman cooing the other and trying to soothe her with tenderness. She grabbed the blonde man's hand and squeezed it tightly.
"We will find our daughter Snow." he confirmed.
Jane looked surprised at this remark. She had assumed that Emma was Regina's lover, based on how the woman was fiercely attacking her and then breaking down in front of her. When the word family came, she had assumed that Emma was a sister or cousin.
"How can she be your daughter when she is with Regina?" Jane asked dumbly.
The three of them looked surprised at her, clearly having forgotten about her presence.
"That." Snow said. "Is a long story, Jane Rizzoli. One that we will share with you soon."
"But in return you must tell us what you know." Regina added.
Jane nodded. "I was with... Maura." she whispered, tears on her eyes. "And she was going to be killed by Mephisto by using a creature called the Erkling to take her heart."
Regina gasped. "This creature, did you see it?"
Jane nodded again. "He was a man in his 40's, wearing a suit and using a cane. He called himself the Dark One"
The three adults looked at each other knowingly.
"So that's where the imp went to." Regina spat angrily. "I knew him disappearing was bad news."
"It did seem like he was changing." the blonde man added.
"He said he was being controlled by Mephisto. He told us to take a dagger away from Mephisto so that he would be free." Jane said while looking at Regina. "He seemed sincere."
"That doesn't make him innocent."
"After that, Mephisto opened a black hole. I was using my ability of replication against him and when the black hole opened I got sucked into it, leaving Maura alone." the last part she choked out.
"You said he created a black hole?" Regina asked surprised. "It's impossible to create a portal from zero."
"That's what he did." Jane said sadly. "And I'm the proof that he succeeded."
Snow and the blonde man nodded, quickly looking at each other for reassurance.
"So if you are here." the man stated.
"Then Emma must be where Jane was last seen." Snow finished.
"That would be Ireland." Jane said.
"This Mephisto, is he magical?" the blonde man asked.
"We do not know what he really is. Some say that he was an angel once, an angel that was jealous of others and narcissistic about his beauty. This made him become a fallen angel, earning the name of Mephistopheles." Regina said instead of Jane.
"You know about it?" Jane asked surprised.
"I have read about him, and he is a very old and dangerous creature. If he is in the same realm as Emma then we must find her fast."
The parents of Emma nodded, determination on their face. Jane looked at Regina, who was the fiercest of them all. She stood up and went towards her, grabbing her hand.
"Maura means to me what Emma means to you." she whispered quietly. "She is my true love." she cried the last part. "Please, help me get back to her."
Regina smiled sadly, squeezing Jane's hands tighter. "Emma is also my true love." she confided quietly. "And I know what you feel. I will help you find Maura. I promise." she vowed. "But I am curious. You do not seem like a person that would know about magic then you seem to embrace it and even practice it."
Jane smiled softly. "We call it different there. But I have seen so much that nothing surprises me now. Well, except this." she laughed a little.
Regina smiled back. "You remind me of my Emma. She is also like that, always trying to undermine the seriousness of a situation by being comical about it."
"And you remind me of my Maura. Always speaking so proper with big words."
Snow, who had been hearing the two women suddenly gasped. "What if it's not a coincidence? What if the black hole was created for the purpose of switching Emma and Jane?"
"Why would someone want to do that?" Regina asked.
"To keep you away from your true love."
"So that we wouldn't complete our quest." Jane finished Snow's thought.
"You were also on a quest?" the blonde man asked surprised.
"Yes, given to us by the Oracle of Delphi. Who gave you yours?"
"The Blue Fairy." Regina said. "And we just came from a battle that we recently had because of it."
"We were also on a battle because of it." Jane added.
"I think Snow was right Jane. I think someone planned this whole thing."
"But why, I mean what would they gain? And isn't it against destiny to mess with time traveling?"
"Yes it is. Whoever did this has a lot of power."
"Or maybe it was fate." the blonde man said. "They will lose a shiny night."
"And on humanity's last day." Jane whispered to herself.
Regina, Snow and the blonde man looked at Jane with complete shock, realizing yet again that the Charming's suspicions were correct.
"Finish what the old families were set to end." Regina finished the prophecy.
