I'd been spending a lot of time with David. We had a lot of classes together and we'd do our work in the library. David leaned his elbows on the table across from me.

"How can you keep studying?" He asked me, "My brain is overwhelmed."

"We only have a little bit left. The test is in a few days. My family can't afford to send me here. I have to do as well as I can." David nodded.

"Where do you live?"

"A small place called Waltons Mountain."

"You have a mountain named after your family?" I nodded.

"We were the first people to live in the area, so they named the mountain after my great great grandparents." David nodded and smiled.

"What made you want to become a nurse?" I exhaled.

"We only have on nurse on the whole mountain and doctor; so I wanted to help the mountain people and be around for anybody who needs help." She paused. "Why did you want to be a doctor?"

"My father's a doctor, so it just made sense that I would go to medical school." I nodded.

"Do you have a passion for medicine?"

"Of course I do." He smiled. "I love being in medicine, even though it takes a while to get through. Some days I don't feel it's worth it, but other days I know I'm going to be helping other people and it's something I learn to deal with."

"Things are that way on the mountain too. It seems hard on Miss Nora. So I want to help her."

"That's admirable." I nodded and looked down at my book. "I should let you study in peace."

"No," I said interrupting his movement, "I like having you here."

"Alright." He nodded.

In the last school year, we'd spent a great deal of time together. David and I had a lot of classes together and we'd been working together. We were side by side in a lot with observing and working with patients. I'd started school very confused about my future, but now I know what I want in my life. I feel warm all over when he looks at me. I want to practice medicine with David Spencer the rest of my life. I want to marry him and spend my life forever as Mrs. Spencer.
