Chapter 40

(A couple of hours later Neal and Emma are eating their desert and are actually talking as well)

Neal: So I hear there's gonna be a party at your house soon right?

Emma: That's right, it's Friday, David told me that the party I thought was gonna be a housewarming/ end of school year party is actually gonna be for my birthday.

Neal: Oh that's right, I'd forgotten your birthday was Friday. How old are you gonna be, if you don't mind me asking?

Emma: I'll be 29.

Neal: And they're throwing you a surprise party, why didn't they just wait until next year?

Emma: That's what I said, by apparently Mary Margaret is set on it, I think she wants to try and make up for all the birthday's she's missed, so I'm gonna do my best to act surprised.

Neal: Just don't do the fake surprised face you did when you used to pretend to be pregnant so we could get food.

Emma: Very funny

Neal: I thought so

Emma: You know, Henry, really likes spending time with you.

Neal: He's a great kid

Emma: Yeah

Neal: Emma?

Emma: Yeah, what's up?

Neal: I have to go back to New York to get the rest of my stuff tomorrow, I'll be gone a few days, but I will be back for Friday, I wouldn't miss that for the world.

Emma: I hate you, you know that right?

Neal: Of course, now I'll go pay the bill and then I'll give you a ride home, ok?

Emma: Thank you

(Twenty minutes later Neal pulls up to the Charming's house and opens Emma's car door for her)

Emma: Thank you

Neal: You're welcome

Emma: You know, I actually had a good time tonight

Neal: See, I'm not that bad am I?

Emma: Maybe not

Neal: Listen, I'll pop by in the morning before school to say bye to Henry, if that's ok, I mean?

Emma: Sure

Neal: Thanks, bye Emma

Emma: Bye Neal

(Emma goes inside the house and immediately takes off her shoes, walking to the kitchen to pour herself a cup of coffee she sees Snow/Mary Margaret doing the same)

Snow: Oh hey Emma honey, so how'd the date go?

Emma: Okay, we talked a little

Snow: And?

Emma: And, nothing, he explained himself and that's it

Snow: Did you think he was sincere?

Emma: Yeah, I think he was

Snow: So is that a good thing, or a bad thing?

Emma: Good, I think.

Snow: I'm glad, do you want some coffee, I just poured my own cup?

Emma: Please

(Snow pours a cup of coffee for her daughter and they sit down on the couch together)

Emma: He said he's gonna pop by early tomorrow morning to say goodbye to Henry before he goes back to New York for a few days to get the rest of his stuff and tie up a few loose ends.

Snow: He's coming to the housewarming though isn't he?

Emma: Yes

Snow: Listen, I know it's your birthday as well, but you said you didn't want a big fuss, so I thought we'd just have a family lunch or something earlier in the day.

Emma: Thank you for remembering

Snow: You're welcome, now if you excuse me I have to go to bed, and so should you if you're gonna go help Regina with Hook and Cora.

Emma: I got it

Snow: Night Emma

Emma: Goodnight

(Snow goes upstairs and Emma finishes her coffee before doing the same)
