Sokka was lying in bed when his cell phone rang for the upteenth time. As soon as he reached for it he let out an exhausted sigh, eversince he dropped Toph off at the Bei Fong Estate Katara and his Dad have been blowing up his phone like crazy. Sokka knew they meant well, but he really needed to be alone right now, rather he didn't want anyone to see him like this. How could I've been so stupid? He thought, Did I really think Toph would choose me after all this time? After everything I put her through?
He buried his face into his pillow as the events of the day continued to play in his head. Just what was he thinking, really? That he would just confess his love and Toph would jump into his arms and the two of them would ride off into the sunset like some cliche romance film.
"I'm an idiot," he said aloud, "a complete and total idiot." Sokka said nothing else as he buried his face even deeper into his pillow, trying his best to forget and move on from losing the best thing that's ever happened to him. However, before he could do that he was ripped from his thoughts by a sudden knock on his door. Sokka groaned at this, Katara must have gotten fed up of him not answering his phone. Why can't they let a man cry alone in his bedroom in peace? Once Sokka wiped the remaining tears in his eyes he got up and made his way to the door, however, his eyes widened at what stood before him. Toph was at his front door! Wearing a black t-shirt, blue jeans and sneakers, with her long hair tied in a ponytail.
"Toph?" He said, the shock evident in his voice. "Wha- How- What are you?-"
"Well, are you going to let me in or what?" She asked, ignoring his rambling.
"S- Sure, sorry." Sokka stepped aside so she could walk in his apartment, as she did so Sokka couldn't stop his head from spinning. What was she doing here?
"Toph," He said finally after a moment of silence, "Why are you here? Shouldn't you and The Duke be on you're way to your honeymoon or something?" He tried to keep the anger, as well as the hurt from his voice, it didn't work.
Toph turned in his direction, with an annoyed look on her face. "You'd know if you just answered your damn phone in the first place. And if you must know I gave my honeymoon to Aang and Katara, they seemed like they needed a vacation."
Now Sokka was really confused. "What?! But Toph, why would you do that? What about you and The Duke? What about your wedding?"
She shrugged. "Isn't it obvious?"
Another moment of silence stretched between them before Toph spoke. "I couldn't go through with the wedding, Sokka," she said finally, "I told The Duke I was in love with someone else."
Before Sokka could open his mouth to say anything, Toph approached him, stood on her toes, and kissed his lips softly. It didn't take long for Sokka to return the gesture, however, as soon as a thought struck him, he broke the kiss and gently pushed Toph away. "Wait a minute," he said, "Toph, I don't understand, you said you didn't love me anymore."
Her face fell at his words. "I know, I did. But it wasn't true. I'm sorry Sokka, I don't know why I said that. I guess in a way I wanted to hurt you as much as you've hurt me."
"Well it worked, but I guess I did deserve it."
"That you did," she agreed.
Sokka cupped the young woman's face. "Listen Toph, I know I made a bunch of stupid mistakes, but I promise you right now I'm going to make it up to you, starting right now."
"Right now?"
"Yes," he answered, "anything you want- anything at all, name it and it's yours."
Toph was silent for a moment before a sly grin appeared on her face. "Well," she said, tilting his chin downward facing her, "we could pick up where we left off, and once we're done I'll lay out my terms."
Sokka smiled. "Deal." He dipped his head down, his forehead touching her's. "And Toph, I know I told you this before, but you've got to know how much I love you, I do. I'm truly, deeply-"
"Sokka," she cut off, placing her finger over his lips, "Shut up and kiss me, I didn't come all this way for nothing."
He obeyed, and in and instant he had his arms around her as he captured her lips with his. Though the kiss was as passionate as the one they shared earlier that day this one was lighter, sweeter, and it erased any doubt that still remained. After what felt like an eternity, Toph pulled away panting a little.
"I love you too, Sokka," she said softly, "I always have."
Sokka's heart swelled at this. He was truly over the moon, and after a few more minutes of kissing passionately, he lifted Toph up and carried her to his bedroom bridal style. And once he closed the door behind them and turned off his cell phone, he spent the rest of the night making good on Toph's terms of making it up to her.
A/N: I'm so, so sorry this took as long as it did! Shortly after I posted the last chapter I was having technical problems with my laptop, and I ended up having to ship it off for two weeks to get it fixed. Anyway, I'm back and hopefully I won't be having anymore computer problems. And sorry the chapter's so short, I just hope it was worth the wait. To all the reviewers, followers, and those who favorited the story- thank you! I know this story was a little crazy given the subject matter, so I appreciate you giving it a chance. And yes this is the last chapter for this story, but don't worry, if you want to read more from me I'll be posting up more stories soon, mostly for the Tokka ship. Until next time...
