Disclaimer: I do not own harry potter nor do i own most of the characters that will be mentioned here. I do however own the plot line as well as Nadia (Naah-dia stress on the first 'a'), her family, Kyro (pronounced Kiii like a long 'I' and roh), and other unfamiliar characters.
Enjoy =D
I smiled into my pillow after I replied to the letter. I hadn't left my bed yet, but I was planning on going to the grocery store when I finally did get up.
I wondered what sort of magical place he would take me to. I'd only ever been to muggle restaurants and from the looks of the ice cream menu from yesterday, I'd say I was in for a treat...or a trick. I wasn't sure.
Thinking about the toadstool and vomit flavoured ice cream option, made my stomach turn. Maybe I should take them to a muggle restaurant instead.
I knew I was overdressed for the place I'd ultimately decided to take them. I was wearing a blue and pale green sweetheart eyelet dress, a pair of stylish flats, and more makeup than usual.
I was anxious. I swore that fifteen minutes ago the clock said 11:51 but when I checked just now it was now 11:53. Driving, I decided, would be the best option to pass the time.
In the garage I jumped into the fiji white birthday gift that I'd received from my father. I loved my range rover, with its Ebony oxford leather seats. She was a beaut, my dad always knew what to get me. A real daddys girl and proud of it.
I arrived at the pub at four minutes to one. It was a bit early, so a game of candy crush kept me occupied.
Finally, after periodically looking up, I spotted Kyro and his father exiting the pub. With a quick tap of the horn, I grabbed their attention. I should have known better. The sound startled them.
Blaise stealthily removed his wand from his pocket. I couldn't help the chuckle that escaped my lips. What did I expect? They were probably not used to this sort of thing.
The automatic pin shifted as I rolled the window down. "Relax it's just me!" I called, waving my hand out.
They didn't move. Of course they didn't. This could not have been the first time that they saw a car. It was impossible.
"Well come on then" I said as Blaise began to shuffle. Finally, he clasped his hand in Kyros and they approached.
They stood at the drivers side staring at the vehicle, Blaise in apprehension, Kyro in blissful awe.
I knew instructing Blaise to strap Kyro in would be futile. I silently thanked Hermione for her over protectiveness as I got out of the car and opened the back door. There was a big kid car seat in my car, hers, Dracos, and basically anyone else she ventured in a car with.
"Come on Ky." I said as I ushered him towards me
"What are you doing?" Blaise asked as he pulled him out of my reach.
"Oh ye of little faith." I replied
Well, we-" I emphasize "are going to get lunch." I grab his hand and hold on though it sends a spark down my spine. "Come" I instructed as I pulled him towards the passenger side. "Sit" I command and he looked at me "Sit" I say again more firmly.
He hesitates his eyes slitted before he follows the command. I strapped him in quickly ignoring the furnace that was his body. Kyro was a lot more receptive of being strapped in. He sat wide eyed looking around the car.
"You know, you were really cute bossing me around just then" He said as I finished strapping myself in. An eyeroll and a restrained smile was my only response "Where are we headed?" he asked as he finally to a look around the car.
"A muggle sandwich restaurant. Something simple, nothing fancy." I replied.
"Whats this then?" He asked after getting over the initial shock of the car moving.
"This is a radio slash cd player slash mp3 slash other things I don't know how to use." I responded
"I know what a radio is but how is it all around the machine?" He asked
I laugh and point at the speakers "The speakers of course. A regular radio has speakers. The speakers emit sound. The car has speakers all around the inside of it. I don't know the mechanics but I'm sure it works similarly." Once he got comfortable the questions started rolling.
"Um…I'll have a subway melt; Italian bread, American cheese, with cucumbers, bell peppers, lettuce, spinach, banana peppers, and honey mustard sauce, six inches please." The lady then looked to Blaise "He'll just have the same but make it a foot long" I said quickly smiling.
"And for your son?" the lady asked. I don't correct her nor do I hesitate to answer.
"He'll have a personal pizza with- what toppings would you like Kyro?" his father lifts him up so he can see the options. He pointed to the bell peppers, ham, and pineapple.
"Can I have two potato chips and two chocolate chip cookies, a fruit punch, and two sierra mists." I said as we arrived at the register. Blaise immediately reached into his pocket for what I assumed to be money, I quickly hand the woman my card. "Lets go." I whisper picking up my tray as he counts out his money.
"How much is it?" He asked.
"I've already paid." I said motioning with my chin for him to get the other tray. An affronted look slid onto his face.
"You shouldn't have paid you know, I asked you out" he said disapprovingly as we walked away from the counter.
"Yes, but muggles don't use wizard money" I mumbled to avoid anyone overhearing.
"Muggle money? What kind of money do muggles use?"
"Well I just used a card. Which is like muggle money." I pull out my purse and look for a few bills and some cents deciding to start from the paper version. "this is a fifty pounds or quids" I say as I point to each in turn "this is a twenty, this is a ten, this is a five, these are cents; one pence, two pence or pee, five, ten, twenty, and fifty pence. This is the one pound coin and the two pound coin." I replace the money in my purse and pull out my card "this is a bank card, there are two types credit and debit. With a credit card the bank gives you a certain amount that you can spend and you have to pay them back with interest… it's not that simple but it's the general idea. What I have here is a debit card which is linked to my account and I use my own money, I don't borrow from the bank so I do not have to repay them. I find this card makes more sense… but I guess it's a matter of opinion. Instead of using money you can allow someone to swipe this card through the little machine you saw before and they take it out of your account" he nods thoughtfully.
"That makes a lot more sense than walking around with money…gringotts should do that" he says thoughtfully.
"They should" I replied as I placed his sandwich in front of him and Kyros pizza in front of him as well then and gave them both a drink. "These are called sodas; they are muggle drinks, some people call them soft drinks, some say sodas, and some say fizzy drinks. They're very bubbly and might be a bit overwhelming at first." I warned. "Best to take small sips first...and you may just need to belch." I said awkwardly
Kyro shruged his shoulders before taking a few gulps. The monster belch he releases echos through the nearly empty restaurant, and in true little boy fashion, he begins to laugh.
His fathers brows crinkled as he stared at the drink I'd pushed towards him. He dives right in and takes a couple gulps. A belch that wasten times as loud as Kyros tore it's way through his throat. Kyro and I burst into laughter and Blaise looked around bashfully.
Kyro tells us the new things that he's learned about phoenixes as we continue to eat and talk. We end the evening with Blaise asking me out again. To which I accepted.
I arrived home to find Hermione, her kids Jenivive and Lukas, and my mother in my sitting room. "Where were you darling? You're normally still in your bed at this time of day on a Saturday" my mother says.
"Uh... I had something to do." I replied. I should have known my mom would have been here. She liked to pop in regularly.
I'd only just moved out from home. It wasn't much of a move as it was one of my parents most moderately sized homes. It was a good starter home, it was spacious, yet cozy at the same time.
"Something so important that you got up before three, I simply must know… did something go wrong at work?" I shook my head "Did someone get hurt?" I shook my head "Then what?"
I decided to come right out with it. It made no sense for me to lie to my mother; she'd see right through it. "I had a lunch date"
Her eyebrows rose high on her forehead. "A date?" I nod as a blush crept its way across my face. "With whom? Why didn't you tell me? Well go on, why are you taking so long, lets hear it." My mother said as Hermione nodded eagerly in agreement.
"Well it wasn't exactly a date, it was…well I'm not sure what it was." I said.
"How did he ask?" Hermione fished.
"Uh... well he owled me and asked me if I wanted to go to lunch with him, he said that he and his son would like to see me again."
"Hmm...Wizard." My mother commented.
"Son?" Hermione asked with a concerned look.
"Uh… yeah he has a son. I think he is about four or five. But we met because of his son. He is a really intelligent and sweet little boy."
"Well it sounded like a date to me" Hermione said.
"So tell us about him, how does he look, and when do we get to meet him?" my mom asked never one to beat around the bush.
"Well I don't know if it's the right time to meet him yet, I want to have a little time with him before you guys send him running to the hills" I joked as they faked annoyed looks. I go on to describe him to them.
