Meet Me In The Moonlight

Chapter 23

All day and night, Dimitri ran. He ran and ran and ran some more. He kept running until he saw her. She was standing at the mouth of her family's den, but the hair on her haunches was standing on end. She was baring her teeth, and Dimitri could hear her growling. He could hear whimpers coming from the den, and he noticed that everyone in the pack had mysteriously disappeared. Of course, that wasn't at the front of his mind.

Not when he saw Rose start to back away from the cave, and another wolf begin to creep his way out. Then, Dimitri saw who it was.

Jesse!

Dimitri didn't realize he had screamed at his half brother at first, but when he saw Jesse turn to face him, he knew that he must have spoken loud enough for him to hear.

Ah, Dimitri, so nice of you to join us. I was just admiring your precious bitch here. Bit feisty, isn't she? Just the way I like 'em.

You stay away from her.

As Dimitri said that, he started to take steps forward.

But with every step forward, Jesse took a step closer to Rose, and it would only take a few more steps before he would be directly next to Rose. So, Dimitri stopped. He took the time to evaluate everything going on around him. Rose was standing on her toes, waiting for the right moment to run. The pack had disappeared. And then the scent danced at the end of his snout, right in front of his nose.

He heard whimpers of pain and fear coming from the cave and he knew, he just knew his monster of a father was in there. He quickly looked to Rose and saw that her eyes were large and round as they looked at him. He knew she was hearing them, and he suspected that she knew more of what was happening in there, though he didn't know how.

What do you want Jesse? Why are you and Aleksandor here?

We are merely here to get what is rightfully ours. Father, he's here for your whore of a mother. Me.. Well, I'm just here to take what is yours. I'm here for her.

Jesse then turned his nose to where Rose had been standing, only to see that she was no longer there. Dimitri could hear rustling sounds coming from inside the den, and he could hear yelps and growls. Then he knew exactly where Rose was. She was in the den. She was in there with that monster.

Then Jesse was charging at Dimitri and he was faced with the choice. Fight or flight. Unfortunately, Jesse was on him and he had to fight. The two boys fought, rolling around while snapping and biting at each other. Luckily, Dimitri had the advantage of size and experience. I mean, he grew up with two brothers, and his mother had kept them in hiding for months before Rose found them and they were taken in by the Mazur pack. And even then, Dimitri and every boy in the pack got together and started messing around, wrestling with each other. Jesse was an only child, and because of his temperament, nobody spent much, if any, time with him. So, it wasn't long before Dimitri bit down on the scruff of his neck and threw him with all his might, watching as his younger half-brother flew through the air before his body collided with a tree. Dimitri heard a sickening crack and watched as Jesse's body dropped down to the trunk of the tree. When his crumpled body hit the ground, Jesse turned his head until he was looking at Dimitri.

Congratulations. You fought the wrong fight Dimitri.

Immediately following those words, Dimitri heard a piercing yelp come from the cave, and ignoring his brother's laughs, he ran back to the cave, only to see his nightmare turning into a reality.

His mother's body lay motionless on the ground, next to Yeva, who you could see was taking laborious breaths. Abe, who had shown so much mercy to him and his family, lay motionless on the other side of the cave, and he was covered in scars all over, each oozing blood. Janine stood over him, and though you could see the tears trickling down her face, her teeth were bared and growls were escaping, dancing in the air between her and everyone else.

But, Dimitri focused in on Rose. She lay on the ground, her body barely moving. Stan stood in front of Sonya and a pup, who Dimitri could only imagine was her baby. He didn't know what that was about, and as he continued to look around, he could see Mason, Eddie, Mikhail, Christian, and Andre each standing in front of another wolf. Mason with Mia, a girl Dimitri remembered meeting upon first moving in. Eddie guarded Jill, Lissa's little sister, while she sat curled up behind him. Mikhail guarded a female he had never seen before, but he was happy that his brother had finally stood up for himself, and had apparently found someone he loved. Christian protected Lissa, who was curled up beside Jill, doing her best to guard her sister as well. Andre stood in front of them all, facing Aleksandor head on, while he slowly crept toward where Rose lay. Dimitri knew if Andre didn't play it safe, he'd be the next one on the ground.

But, he noticed where Andre was headed. When Andre stood directly in front of Dimitri, and Aleksandor had unknowingly put his back to Dimitri, something snapped. Dimitri charged at Aleksandor, jumping on his back and biting down on the scruff of his neck. Aleksandor rolled to the side, effectively throwing Dimitri off of him, before jumping up. Dimitri rolled from the momentum, before he collided with the rocky wall. Light bursts flashed behind Dimitri's eyes and Aleksandor stood over him.

Did you really think you could take me? Such a fool, just like your mother, thinking she could actually run from me and find safety here in Mazur's pack. She tried fighting me, and you see where she is now. Then Mazur, who was so noble, trying to fight to protect his pack, and he failed. What makes you think you can win Dimitri? Your bitch didn't even last long.

I'll win, because I'm not alone.

Then Dimitri got up, and rose to his full height, giving him a good foot over Aleksandor. Then he yelled 'NOW!' to all the boys around him and charged at Aleksandor again. Not only Dimitri, but all the boys charged at Aleksandor, so while Dimitri fought him, the others surrounded him to prevent him from running away.

After a long fight, Dimitri had finally floored Aleksandor and stood over him, huffing for breath. Each had scars and cuts all over, but Aleksandor was now looking worse for wear, having fought three others previously. Dimitri had put up with Aleksandor and his abuse his whole life, and he was tired of living in fear.

I want you to know that this is for my family, for Mr. Mazur and Roza.. But this is mostly for me, because I am tired of your abuse and living in fear. I'm putting an end to it now.

Finally Dimitri brought his extended claws down and cut his father's throat, and then turned and ran to his Roza.

Okay babes! There is chapter 23, which is probably long overdue. I promised BethIsMyName that it would be up yesterday, and as I went to post it, my laptop crashes, erasing everything. So, here it is! After a long day of rewriting it, I am finally posting it.

On another subject, when I started this story, I honestly didn't expect it to take off and succeed like it has, and I am sad to announce that it only has a few more chapters left! I have to thank everyone, whether you reviewed, favorited, or followed the story, because your support has meant the world to me! Like, no joke, it has given me a big burst of confidence in my writing, and it makes me really excited to start my next story, which I'm hoping you will all check out once it goes up.

Anywho, I am going to head off and get to work on the next chapter, because I'm sure your grubby little hands are hungry for it already, and I'm sure you want to know what happens to our babes! And be sure to drop a review, giving me your theories as to what's to come!

Loves,
