Lightkit
He grew tired of his littermate's games as the day wore on. Fawntail and Larkblossom had remained in the leaders den past sun high and immediately left camp afterwards.
He had finally decided to stop being cross at the newcomer as she helped him alongside their games, being a strong comrade whenever Olivekit or Aspenkit got too aggressive.
Either way, he was exhausted by the time they were going to start another round of an reenactment of the big battle between the clans.
He left them as Aspenkit declared herself as Silverstar.
He had begun watching Redpaw and some other apprentices walking in and out of the elders den. He trotted over to them and nearly bumped into Blackpaw.
The friendly tom nodded at him.
"Hey there, Lighkit. Tired of the she-cats?" He purred jokingly. Flarepaw popped his head out if the den with a ball of moss in his jaws.
He dropped it in front of Blackpaw.
"I would be."
Redpaw suddenly appeared. "Oh shut up. Anyway, they heard you in there, may as well come on in."
Lighkit left the two toms and trailed after Redpaw. Pinefoot, Silversnow, and Shadowtail were settled into their freshly made nests.
"Hello, Lighkit. It sounds like you're looking for peace and quiet." Pinefoot meowed in greeting. Lighkit shrugged and sat down. Silversnow let out a snort.
"There's no such thing as peace or quiet between your complaining about you losing your eyesight in your good eye or Grumpypaws yapping about his former deputyship." She said and flicked Shadowtail with her tail.
Lightkit really didn't feel like listening to the elders bicker, but noticed Redpaw sitting right next to him.
"Where did your brothers go?" He whispered to her. The cream she-cat shrugged.
"They ran away. Flarepaw got a tongue lashing from Silversnow, so he probably dragged poor Blackpaw away to complain." Lighkit nodded slowly. It seemed the elders were too busy to pay attention to him, so Redpaw motioned for him to follow her out of the den.
"It's been awfully quiet between the clans, according to them. So I guess they have to make up for it by quarreling between themselves." Redpaw joked and lead him to the apprentices den. All of her littermates were already there and watched then approach.
"You see Littlestar up there? I think he's going to-" Blossompaw mewed but was cut off from the leaders call.
"ForestClan, join me for a clan meeting."
Lightkit noticed that he had summoned all of the Clan, not just those old enough to hunt prey.
The leader waited for the Clan to settle in before continuing to speak.
"I have called you for a special occasion." He meowed and looked down at some warriors. "Twigclaw, Sapphirecloud, Kindlestrike, and Larkblossom. Do you deem your apprentices ready for the title of warriors?"
Lighkit felt Redpaw and the other apprentices get to their paws in shock.
"That's why we've been hunting and battling nonstop!" Skypaw exclaimed and then shut her mouth quickly.
The warriors within the clan chuckled.
The said warriors agreed.
"I believe Flarepaw is also ready. Come forward, all of you."
Lightkit watched them calmly make their way towards Littlestar. He jumped down from his den and stood in front of them.
"May StarClan look down proudly upon these apprentices and see how they have trained, and in turn become warriors."
"From this moment on, Flarepaw will be known as Flarespark; Skypaw will be known as Skyheart; Blackpaw will be known as Blackbreeze; Blossompaw will be known as Blossomwish; and Redpaw will be known as Redsky."
They all looked beyond ecstatic.
"Flarespark! Skyheart! Blackbreeze! Blossomwish! Redsky!" Lightkit called along with the Clan. A part of him felt sad that Redsky was now a warrior, and it seemed like an even bigger gap of isolation was forged between them. Wait, what?
He flattened his ears at his own thoughts.
"Tonight, you will guard camp as custom. Clan dismissed."
With that, the clan went about its normal routine in the evening. Rosesong went up to her kits and pride glowed on her face.
Even Shadowtail had sat in the mouth of the elders den to watch their ceremony.
Aspenkit made her way to Lightkit and nudged him.
"Hey, what's wrong?" She asked, the normal edge in her voice softened. The bandages around her face had been replaced with new ones. Some strange pain filled his chest.
Even if Aspenkit was ok, Lighkit now felt alone. Isolation clamped around his heart-Redsky was a warrior now and Aspenkit was now bonding with Icekit. Olivekit was still not to be messed with.
Lighkit sighed.
"I'm ok." He didn't really want to be bothered and watched Redsky from afar.
Redsky
Pride filled her belly. The Clan called their names proudly and she puffed out her chest. Larkblossom congratulated her warmly.
"You can make a nest right next to mine if you want!" She meowed. Kindlestrike shook his head.
"Don't do it, she snores like a badger." He meowed and was promptly cuffed over the head.
Other warriors congratulated her for a little while longer as the sun began to dip low into the sky. She briefly became aware of something missing until Lightkit padded up to her. His green eyes shown with a strange emotion.
'Hey Lightkit." She mewed softly. She wasn't sure if he was angry.
"Hi, Redsky." He replied. Suddenly he purred.
"How's being a warrior?" He asked. She shrugged and glanced towards the warriors den.
"Just wondering how they're going to fit us all in there." She laughed and blinked at him. They really should be apprentices.
Lighkit, Aspenkit, and Olivekit were very large for being in the nursery anyways. Not to mention Icekit really seems to be older.
Littlestar suddenly appeared: the newly made warriors immediately turned their attention to him. The leader had an apologetic look on his face.
"I feel awful for this, but there is hardly any room for the warriors in their den right now, so you will have to remain in the apprentices den until we have expanded the warrior's den. I'm sorry." He mewed.
Redsky felt oddly comforted- she realized she really didn't want to leave the den just yet. Opposite to her, Flarespark nearly threw a fit.
"We should be able to-" He started, but Blackbreeze nearly shoved him off his paws. Her brothers glared at each other until Littlestar dipped his head and left them.
"Hey, it won't be too awful to stay in the old den. It'll just be for a little while." Blossomwish mewed. Redsky nodded and redirected her attention to Lightkit.
"I should probably be getting ready for the vigil now. I'll talk to you later." She said padded away from him, but she swore that she could feel his gaze burn at her back.
She ignored the feeling and began the vigil with her littermates as the sun dipped below the trees. The Clan began to turn in for the night to their respective dens, and the camp grew quiet.
Redsky looked up at Silverpelt and let her mind wander but was interrupted by the sound of pawsteps. She looked behind her and saw dipped her head to Kindlestrike and Fawntail padding to them and the camp entrance.
"Hello, all of you. We're just going for an evening stroll, expect us back in a short while." Kindlestrike said as he and his mate passed them. Redsky nodded and watched them leave.
It was quiet again, leaving them to their own thoughts. We're so high up that no other cat can really get up here. Why should we have to guard camp?
Suddenly, more pawsteps sounded. Redsky turned again and saw Larkblossom hurrying towards them with a worried expression on her face.
"Did Kindlestrike say where he was going?" She asked breathlessly. They all shook their heads no. She scowled.
"Did he bring any cat with him?" She then asked. Redsky nodded.
"Speak." Larkblossom ordered.
"Fawntail." Skyheart told the elder warrior. Larkblossom sighed and then sped off. Redsky was left confused. She looked to the others and they all seem bewildered.
They were finally left in silence as the night wore on.
It wasn't until around moonhigh that they heard commotion below camp.
Flarespark and Blackbreeze walked to the edge of camp and looked down.
"Get Littlestar! Please!" Redsky heard Fawntail's grief-stricken voice below camp. She and Blossomwish raced to the Stonebranch and burst into his den. The leader startled awake and immediately hot to his paws.
"What is it?" He asked.
"Fawntail needs you!" Blossomwish meowed and they followed him down the ledge and out of camp.
There were cats peering sleepily out of their dens with curiousity. Aspenkit, Olivekit, Lightkit, and Icekit appeared out of the nursery and stumbled towards the camp exit.
Redsky pushed them back as she followed the others out of camp, nearly tumbling over her paws. Fawntail was waiting for them, but she was in hysterics.
"Follow me, please!" She didn't wait for a response and sped into the forest. Redsky's paws skimmed over the ground as they headed into the heart of the forest until they came into a clearing.
Redsky noticed Larkblossom lying on the ground with blood splattered on her fur. This is why.
