Chapter Nine: Foolproof Backup Plan
Kuragari snarled in frustration as he paced back and forth. How did that damn hybrid always ruin his plans?! He'd thought this one through quite thoroughly and yet he still managed to trail them and take the miko from him before he could make her his. He'd been so close too… so close to claiming her. He shuddered slightly as his mind drifted back to the feeling of her perfect body pressed against his… the taste of her lips… her wonderful scent. Not realizing that he'd stopped pacing, Kuragari took a deep breath and inhaled Kagome's scent that still clung to him.
She would be his… no matter what it took. It was obvious that he couldn't get to her with that damn forbidden in the way. How could he slowly get to her? Or perhaps distract the hybrid? Kuragari glared at the ground of his hidden cave deep in Makai as he tried to formulate a plan. How could he get back at Hiei? He wasn't strong enough to kill the apparition, and with the other detectives there at all times, there was no way he could slowly pick off his friends… They were quite powerful anyway.
The cougar's eyes suddenly lit up as a smirk spread across his lips. Oh yes… that would be perfect…
"I was so worried about you mommy… daddy saved you before that bad man could hurt you?" Taro asked, sniffling as he stared up at her. He reached his arms up toward her, signaling that he wanted her to pick him up. The miko smiled warmly and lifted the boy into her arms easily. She hugged him to her tightly for a moment before setting him on her hip comfortably.
"Yes sweetie, daddy saved me just in time." She answered her future son, turning her smile to Hiei, who was sitting on the window sill across the room. He was still sulking over the fact that Kuragari was able to escape him again. She knew he wanted to tear the cougar limb from limb but he was quite skilled at fleeing when he knew he couldn't win. It bothered her that their greatest threat was still roaming out there somewhere and that he was brave enough to actually kidnap her while she was in the presence of the entire Reikai team.
If he wasn't afraid of attacking them all or snagging her right from under their noses, she didn't doubt he would try it again and succeed this next chance he got. He was learning from his mistakes and if they didn't think of a way to dispose of him quickly, he was going to get what he wanted. She was sure he didn't know she was the only reason Hiei, Kurama, and Yusuke were able to find her so quickly but she was sure that he would make sure they wouldn't be able to reach her quickly enough. She also knew that he wouldn't mess around if he got another chance… he would just get straight to the point.
An angry growl pulled her from her thoughts and Kagome turned her questioning gaze directly to Hiei. He was glaring at her quite intently. She rolled her eyes and placed Taro back on his feet before turning to look for her cousin. She knew he was beating himself up over not being able to keep her out of harms way but she hadn't had the time to reassure him that she was perfectly fine and that it wasn't his fault.
'You are mine.' Hiei's voice echoed in Kagome's mind and she rolled her eyes once more. She knew the hybrid had been listening to her thoughts. She wouldn't be surprised if he saw what the cougar had done to her through her memories but she knew he was angry that she actually thought Kuragari would get anywhere near her again. She knew he was livid that he'd nearly lost her and was only able to punch her kidnapper once. She didn't blame him; she would be just as angry if she were in his shoes.
Brushing aside her thoughts of Hiei for the moment, the miko continued searching for her cousin. She eventually found him in his room sulking. Sighing softly, she moved to sit beside him on his bed. "Suke?"
"This bastard is getting way to close to you Kagome." Yusuke growled, glaring at the ground.
"I let my guard down. It was my fault, not any of yours."
Yusuke shook his head. "No, we should have been paying closer attention to you. We knew that you were Kuragari's main focus."
Kagome firmly placed her hand on his shoulder, staring at him seriously when he turned to lock his gaze with hers. "Yusuke, it was no one's fault. Stop blaming yourself ok? Now we know to pay closer attention. We never could have guessed that Kuragari would be gutsy enough to snag me like that."
Yusuke sighed and averted his gaze. "I know but I'm your cousin Kagome… I should be able to keep you safe, but I can't even seem to do that right."
Kagome felt her anger rising with each word that fell from his lips. "You take that back this instant Yusuke Urameshi. If it weren't for you and the others, I wouldn't be alive to this day. All of the human realm would be destroyed so don't you dare sit there and tell me you failed at protecting me."
Yusuke glanced at her from the corner of his eye for a moment before turning and pulling her into a tight hug. "Thanks Gome…" he murmured.
Her anger was quickly defusing as she wrapped her arms around her cousin and hugged his tightly. "You're doing a great job Suke." She muttered softly.
"Umm sorry to interrupt but Taro is crying and we can't stop him… and we can't find Hiei." Both cousins looked toward the door to see Kuwabara shifting from one foot to the other uncomfortably. Kagome smiled to her cousin once more before kissing him on the cheek softly and exiting the room to find her future son. Yusuke stood and stretched before following Kuwabara to the living room to see Kagome calming Taro. Kurama was standing across from her, staring at her incredulously. They just didn't understand how Kagome had such a knack with kids, despite the fact that this particular one was hers in the future.
Kagome yawned as she slowly placed Taro down beside Yukina on her bed. The ice maiden seemed to have fallen asleep in her room but she didn't mind. Taro seemed to enjoy sleeping with his aunt so she allowed them both to sleep in her room for the night. Silently exiting the room, Kagome closed the door before quietly making her way to Hiei's room. She knew he wouldn't mind that she slept in his bed; he wasn't even in his room so she could just crawl under the covers. She quietly opened the door to his room and crept inside before closing the door behind her.
The miko nearly yelped in panic when she was suddenly thrown down on the bed and pinned down by a familiar muscular body. If she hadn't smelt him, she certainly would have screamed. How did she not sense him in the room? She'd checked the entire temple to see where he was but he was nowhere to be found. Was he really strong enough to completely conceal himself from her?
Kagome stared up at the hybrid curiously as he glared down at her. "Is there a reason you found it necessary to scare four years off my already short life?"
A soft growl rumbled in his chest before he spoke. "You are mine onna. No one will take you from me."
Kagome rolled her eyes. "I know that Hiei, but that's not a good enough reason to scare the living shit out of me."
Another growl shook through her as he continued to glare down at her. "I don't think you understand what I'm implying."
Kagome remained silent for a moment as she tried to comprehend what he was talking about. Not able to come up with an answer, she shrugged her shoulders. A smirk appeared on Hiei's face as he gazed down at her, his glare now gone. Kagome stared up at him in suspicion… what was he up to?
Her question was soon answered when he leaned down and pressed his lips against hers firmly. Closing her eyes, she returned his passionate kiss as he rearranged himself on top of her. Every cell in her body began to shiver as he deepened the kiss, brushing his tongue along her lower lip before pushing it forth to meet hers. Kagome arched her back up to press her chest firmly against his as she wrapped a leg around his waist. She held back her moan when he suddenly ground his hips against hers.
Kagome's mind drifted back to their intimate moment in the school locker room and her arousal sky rocketed. Her scent quickly reached Hiei's nose and he nearly lost control. Pulling away from the miko, he trailed his claw down the front of her shirt, tearing both her shirt and her bra away from her body. Kagome felt her face turn cherry red but didn't have time to be embarrassed because once her creamy flesh was uncovered; Hiei was already trailing his tongue along her stomach. Her body shook with pleasure as he flicked his tongue over her nipples before nibbling on each of them.
"H… Hiei…" she murmured, arching her back up to push her breasts further toward him. He growled his approval as he reached down and pulled her sweat pants away. She was in such a daze that she didn't even notice that Hiei was already completely undressed. When did that happen? Her thoughts were pushed from her mind when he brushed his erection against her heated core. She groaned softly as she wrapped her arms around his neck to pull him closer to her.
"This will hurt." Hiei murmured softly as he positioned himself. Kagome took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She knew she loved Hiei and wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. It was obvious that this would happen eventually… proof of their mating was sleeping in her bedroom with Yukina at that exact moment. So why delay the inevitable? They weren't even sure when exactly this happened anyway. For all they knew, things were playing out just as they were supposed to.
Opening her eyes briefly, Kagome stared up at Hiei intensely for a moment before nodding slightly. With her acknowledgement, he slowly pushed himself completely inside of her. He remained still for a moment so she could get used to him before slowly pulling out and sliding back in. She hissed in pleasure and he knew she was prepared. Pulling out with a little more speed, he pushed his erection back inside her a little more firmly. Kagome arched her back up and groaned softly as she felt her entire body shutter. Hiei smirked as he leaned down and kissed her once more, quickening his pace.
It wasn't long before he could feel the miko reaching her peak and thankfully, he was able to push himself to reach his at the same time. With one last thrust, Hiei sunk his fangs into the junction of her neck and shoulder as he pounded into her completely before feeling his release. Kagome sighed heavily as he pulled his fangs from her skin and softly licked up any blood. He felt comfortable inside her so remained there for the time being as she regained herself. The mikodemon eventually turned her loving gaze up to meet his and smiled softly. She leaned up to kiss him as he pulled out of her and rolled over to lie beside her.
"I love you Hiei…" she murmured as she cuddled up against his chest.
Hiei buried his nose in her hair as he wrapped his arms around her. "And I you… now no one can take you from me."
Kagome yawned as she snuggled closer to the warmth of Hiei's body. Purring, she nuzzled his neck softly. She could sense that he was still sound asleep, which surprised her slightly. Hiei never allowed himself to completely fall asleep… Opening her eyes, she sat up slowly to check on her mate. A soft smile spread across her lips as she stared down at him. The hybrid was perfectly fine, though she still wasn't sure why he was completely asleep. Brushing those thoughts from her mind, she watched his chest rise and fall with each breath he took. Staring at his bare chest, memories of their time together the night before rushed at her and she blushed beet red when she realized that not only was she still undressed, but Hiei was also lying in bed without any clothes.
She refused the urge to allow her gaze to travel to his lower regions and forced her eyes toward the window. The sun was beginning to rise and they needed to get ready for school. A smirk made its way across her lips as she maneuvered herself on top of the still sleeping hybrid and purred softly as she pressed her chest down against his. Leaning down, she pressed her lips against his neck before brushing her fangs against the sensitive skin. The apparition woke so suddenly that she squealed in surprise when he suddenly flipped their positions and pinned her arms above her head.
She huffed her irritation as a pout formed on her face. "Why do you have to ruin my fun?"
Hiei rolled his eyes. "Do you want to be late for school?"
"I don't understand how that has anything to do with my fun." She pouted.
"If I were to allow you to continue, you would not be leaving this room for several hours." He stated.
Kagome snorted and averted her gaze as she tried to squirm her way out from under her new mate. "Hours huh? Then how come last night only lasted half an hour?"
A smirk spread across the hybrid's face as he leaned down to trail his tongue over the mark he placed on her neck. "That was your first time onna. Now that you are no longer pure, I will be working on improving your stamina."
Kagome turned her gaze back to him, holding back her blush and instead forcing herself to glare. "And who says I don't already have decent stamina?"
Hiei shrugged. "If you're so confident then prove it."
"Hey love birds, gets your asses out of bed already!" Yusuke yelled as he passed by their doorway.
Not able to hold back her blush this time around, she pushed Hiei off her and wrapped the sheet around her naked body before searching for her clothes. Her breath hitched in her throat when she felt the hybrid wrap his arms around her from behind and pulled her back against his chest. "You are my mate, there is no need to conceal your body from me." He growled softly.
Kagome pulled away from him and kept her back facing him, not wanting him to see her blush and knowing that he had yet to put clothes on either. "Just because you're comfortable with walking around naked doesn't mean I am."
Hiei rolled his eyes at her before making his way to his dresser and digging through it. "Here" he muttered, knowing her demonic ears would hear him, and tossed her a pair of his black sweats and a black shirt. She pulled the shirt on over the sheet that was still wrapped around her body. Glancing down at the length of the shirt, she seemed satisfied that it fell past her hips. Dropping the sheet, she pulled on the sweats before turning a thankful smile to Hiei.
"These look way better on you." She laughed softly, feeling as if she was swimming in his clothes. He may not be much taller than her but he was far more muscular.
"I disagree." He smirked as he allowed his eyes to travel down her body. There was just something about the miko dressed in his clothes that turned him on… a lot. He stepped toward her and pulled her against his chest. "Wear them tonight." He demanded.
"Why?" Kagome laughed as she stared up at him curiously. Her confusion was clarified once the scent of his arousal hit her nose. Blushing, she quickly pulled away from the apparition and made her way out of the room, muttering that she needed to get ready for school. Hiei rolled his eyes as he too began getting ready. There was no doubt that he needed a shower after last night's events.
It wasn't long before Kagome was rushing toward the front door, not surprised that for once, Kurama, Kuwabara, and Yusuke were there waiting for her. She could sense Hiei was already outside so after smiling toward the boys, she brushed past them and out the door. She was stopped in her tracks when she heard Yusuke inhale deeply.
"Is that what I think I smell?" Yusuke muttered under his breath as he turned his gaze to Kurama.
The avatar took a whiff of the air as well and turned surprised eyes to the miko that had abruptly stopped just outside the door. "Indeed…"
"Kagome…"
"Yes! We mated! What's the big damn deal!?" Kagome yelled, interrupting her cousin before he could overreact like he always did.
Yusuke and Kurama burst into laughter. Kuwabara and Kagome stared at the two in complete confusion just as Hiei appeared beside the miko.
"What the bakas laughing about." The hybrid questioned, glaring at them.
Kagome and Kuwabara shrugged as they waited for Kurama and Yusuke to calm themselves. Once they're laughter died down, her cousin turned a wide smile toward her. "I wasn't gunna get pissed Kags, I was gunna congratulate you."
Kagome stared at her cousin in confusion. "That's definitely not like you… so who are you and what have you done with the real Yusuke?" she growled, glaring at him suspiciously.
"Please calm down Kagome. We were just laughing because we were holding a bet on your reaction." Kurama stated, smiling politely.
"Excuse me?" she growled, growing even more confused.
"Everyone knew you and Hiei were gunna bang soon so we made a bet on when it would happen and how you would react when I found out." Yusuke grinned jokingly.
She glared at him. "That's not funny Suke."
"It was to us!" he chuckled. "And I wonhalf the bet!"
"Half?" Kuwabara asked.
"Well Kurama said they'd mate sometime between last night and two days from now. I thought they'd wait til a little later." Yusuke elaborated. "But I knew Kags would flip when she found out I knew about their mating."
Hiei and Kagome turned glares toward Kurama.
The avatar rolled his eyes, not feeling threated by their glares. "I knew you would not allow Kuragari another opportunity to take her from you, therefore it only made sense that the mating would occur sooner."
Kagome groaned in embarrassment as she turned away from her companions and began making her way toward the steps. "Can we just go to school now? Since no one can mind their own damn business and leave me and Hiei's sex life alone!"
When they reached school, Kagome quickly darted toward her class, still feeling slightly embarrassed from the events of that morning. Sighing heavily as she plopped down into her seat, Kagome rested her head against her desk. She felt Hiei enter the room and ease his way into his seat beside her.
'Why let them irritate you?'
'Because they're nosey!' she snarled as she lifted her head to stare at him in annoyance.
Hiei rolled his eyes. 'Let them be, it matters not.'
Kagome huffed as she turned a glare to the front of the class. She knew she was overreacting about all of this but she just felt agitated that morning, probably because she wasn't happy to be back in the building that was filled with dozens of human females that were constantly plotting a way to steal her mate from her. She wasn't sure if it was the fact that they were now officially mated but she felt even more possessive over Hiei than ever before. She felt the intense desire to tear the five girls, that were always trying to swoon Hiei or get rid of her, to shreds.
'It is because of the mating.' Hiei's voice drifted along her mind, confirming her curiosity.
'Get out of my head.' She growled, still irritated.
Hiei was about to retort but felt his entire body freeze. Something was wrong… leaping out of his seat, the hybrid swiftly left the classroom without a word. Now on high alert, Kagome also rose from her seat, quickly gathered her things as well as Hiei's before apologizing to the teacher that had just entered and leaving the room. Rushing down the hall, following Hiei's aura, she wasn't surprised that Kurama and Yusuke met up with her just before she exited the school. Speeding out the double doors, they didn't wait up for Kuwabara, who was yelling for them to slow down.
"What's going on?" Yusuke asked, picking up his pace to catch up with Kagome who broke into a sprint once they were off school grounds.
"I'm not sure but Hiei doesn't just up and leave like that without good reason." Kagome stated as she led the way back to Genkai's temple, which is where she felt Hiei was rushing toward. As they approached the steps of the temple, Kagome scanned the area thoroughly and was confused when she felt no sign of any threats nearby. It was when they cleared the top of the stairs and spotted Hiei and Yukina kneeling over a smaller body that Kagome felt panic flood through her.
She dashed over to the two demons and dropped to her knees when the metallic smell of blood hit her like a speeding bus. Crawling on her hands and knees hastily, tears began to trail down her cheeks. Her hands trembled as she slowly reached out to hold the boy's face in her hands. Taro was in bad shape… blood was flowing from multiple wounds all over his body. Further examination revealed the wounds to be claw marks… as well as a puncture wound through his stomach that could have only been caused by a blade.
"Mommy… it hurts…" he sobbed as his gaze moved from Hiei to Kagome.
Kagome choked on her tears as she gently rubbed her thumbs over his cheeks to sooth him as much as she could. "I know baby…" she murmured. She turned her tearful gaze up to Yukina and felt her heart sink into her stomach when she spotted the tears trailing down the ice maiden's cheeks. She must have already tried healing Taro… otherwise the koorime wouldn't look so broken hearted.
"Don't be sad mommy… I'm going back to the future… where I belong." He coughed, blood spilling down from his tiny lips.
"No sweetie, you're going to be just fine." Kagome sobbed, her tears falling harder when the small boy's body began to fade. It was as if he were slowly disappearing right before their eyes.
He smiled softly to his mother before turning his expression to his father. "It's up to all of you to save the future now…" he murmured before he was gone.
"No… no, no, Taro… Taro! Damnit why?!" Kagome cried, her body shaking violently with her sobs as she broke down. Hiei quickly pulled her into his arms, trying his best to comfort her.
The hybrid stared blankly at the exact spot where Taro was lying before he disappeared. His son… his future son was dead… killed while they were unable to keep him safe. Kuragari's scent was all over the courtyard and there was no doubt in the apparition's mind that he'd been the one to slay Taro. He felt his rage building but held it under control for the time being. He needed to remain calm and collected for Kagome… he knew that she'd readily go on a rampage though Makai in her search for the cougar that killed their son.
Yukina continued to silently shed her tears over the death of the boy while Yusuke, Kurama, and Kuwabara kept their distance. They felt the sadness weigh their hearts down but didn't allow their tears to fall. It was true that Taro had indeed died but if they could defeat Kuragari, the boy's death would not be in vain. Everyone was slightly surprised when Kagome turned her purple gaze to Yukina, her tears completely gone.
"Who did this." She demanded, her voice void of emotion.
"Kuragari… he snuck up on us… Taro was playing out here with Kirara and just attacked… I couldn't make it in time…" Yukina explained.
"Where is Kirara." Kagome asked.
"She chased after Kuragari and Genkai's in Reikai with Koenma watching the path they're taking so they can find where he's hiding." She answered before another onslaught of tears fell from the ice maiden's eyes. "Kagome I'm so sorry…" she hiccupped.
Kagome sighed and pulled her sister in law into a tight hug. "It wasn't your fault Yukina… there was nothing you could do. We need to find Kuragari and avenge Taro's death… and save the future."
Kagome was pissed. So pissed that no one dared to approach the miko. They'd been waiting for a few hours for Koenma to call them with news of Kuragari's location and it seemed that each minute that passed increased Kagome's fury. They could feel… practically taste the anger rolling from the petite demoness in waves. Hiei was the only individual brave enough to confront the woman. Not even her cousin would risk getting anywhere near her… he didn't want to get purified anytime soon and with how infuriated she was, he wouldn't be surprised if she took a zap at him.
Although Hiei was cautious while Kagome was in such an unpredictable state, he was not afraid of her. He nearly snorted at the obvious fear the others felt toward his mate but he knew that no matter how angry she was, she'd never fatally injure anyone in the shrine. She loved them all too much to bring harm to them. He wouldn't deny, though, that she would definitely bring immense pain to the individual that decided to pick a bone with her while she was in such a mood.
'You need to calm down, you will need as much energy as possible for the upcoming battle.' Hiei murmured softly to her through their mental link. He may enjoy riling her up but even Hiei knew when to tone it down. Right now was not the time to throw demands at her in his usual stern voice or make fun of her. He did not wish to find out what purification felt like.
A soft growl rumbled in Kagome's chest as she continued to glare out the window. After she'd calmed Yukina down and regained her composure, everyone relocated to the living room to await Koenma's call. Kagome claimed Hiei's usual spot on the window sill so she could direct her angry gaze out the window. That and she could see the exact spot where Taro had disappeared… she almost didn't believe that Kuragari had successfully killed her future son. The bastard was going to pay dearly.
Everyone kept their distance from her and she was thankful for the space. She wasn't sure if she was in complete control of her powers and emotions at the moment with all the rage flooding through her veins. Hiei eventually made his way over to her and her ear flicked toward the sound of his movements. She didn't bother to spare him a glance as he reached her side, though she was caught by surprise when the hybrid lifted her off the window sill only to sit on it and place her in his lap. Leaning her back against his chest, she continued to glare out the window as she plotted Kuragari's death.
Botan's sudden appearance startled everyone except Kagome and Hiei. Not a word was said as Kagome abruptly removed herself from Hiei's arms and stood before Lady Death, awaiting the portal that would take them to Reikai. Botan remained silent as she quickly opened a portal and waited for everyone to pass through. Yusuke placed a comforting hand on her shoulder as he passed, obviously sensing her slight fear of the enraged miko. Taking a deep breath, the reaper followed the team through the portal only to see Kagome threateningly holding Koenma by the collar of his shirt.
"What do you mean you lost track of them?!" She screeched, snarling down at him.
"They completely disappeared from the radars! There was nothing I could do!" Koenma cried out desperately, hoping someone in the room would save him from the miko's wrath.
"Kagome please put Koenma down." Kurama murmured as he reached her side.
Growling angrily, she dropped the toddler back onto his desk before turning her fierce eyes to Botan. The woman jumped slightly when Kagome began to approach her. "Take me to the last place they were before they disappeared." She demanded.
Botan nodded and quickly formed a portal before stepping aside to allow the miko through. Hiei and Yusuke quickly followed behind her while Kurama apologized to Koenma for Kagome's actions. Kuwabara and Kurama rushed through the portal before they were left behind. They were certain that Kagome wasn't patient enough to wait for anyone. Once they reached Makai, they spotted Kagome examining the entire surrounding area.
Her powers suddenly leapt forth and clashed with a shimmering barrier. Glaring at the barrier, Kagome placed her hand against it and closed her eyes. Tracing through the barrier, Kagome searched for a hole in it. Easily locating one since the barrier obviously wasn't created by Kuragari but some other device, she pushed her powers through. The barrier fell and Kagome sprinted forth, easily picking up Kirara and Kuragari's scents.
A low roar was heard in the distance and Kagome pushed herself to move faster. Apparently the two hadn't gotten far past the barrier because their scents were growing stronger… Kirara must have attacked Kuragari before he could escape her. Hoping she could reach the neko in time before Kuragari fatal injured her as well; Kagome ignored Yusuke and Kurama's shouts to slow down. Hiei was able to keep up with her and that's all that mattered. They could catch up once she saved Kirara.
Bursting through a line of thick trees, Kagome held back her urge to dart straight for Kuragari. She knew that Hiei would take care of him for the time being until she could get Kirara a safe distance away from the battle. Rushing to the neko's side just as Hiei blocked Kuragari's sword from piercing Kirara's flesh, she ordered her to transform into her smaller form. With the neko lighter to carry, the miko quickly lifted her into her arms and rushed to the line of trees she'd barged through. Placing her behind one of the trees, she told the neko to remain there and not move.
Swiftly reentering the clearing, Kagome assessed the situation. Kurama, Yusuke and Kuwabara had moved to different areas of the clearing so no matter where Kuragari tried to escape, they would prevent it. They knew this fight was between her, Hiei, and Kuragari… Hiei was currently clashing swords with the murderous demon, his katana meeting Kuragari's without the slightest trouble. Kagome's gaze lingered on their enemy's blade. It was covered in blood… and Hiei wasn't injured yet.
Kagome felt her blood boil as she realized the blood that soaked Kuragari's blade was Taro's. Snarling in pure hatred, Kagome sped toward the fight. 'Find that Spirit Pendant. I want him to feel my purification.' She instructed Hiei as she entered the fight, pounding her fist directly into Kuragari's cheek. Hiei took a step back as Kagome began her assault on the cougar. He'd never seen her fight so vigorously before… but then again, he'd never seen her so angry either. Shaking his head clear, Hiei called upon his Jagan. Using its power, he raked through Kuragari's mind relentlessly, smirking slightly at the pain that entered the cougar's eyes. It was obvious that the power of the jagan was taking a toll on the demon mentally and with his mind not focused on the fight, it gave Kagome the opportunity to completely pummel him.
The miko threw him into the ground before pushing her foot into his throat. Her eyes widened when she realized that the cougar was suddenly beginning to disappear as he'd done so many times before in order to escape. But before he could perform his vanishing act, Hiei rushed by him and ripped something from his hip.
'Do what you will.' Hiei murmured to his mate.
A smirk spread across her face as she quickly pushed her purification toward the ground, jolting Kuragari and halting his escape. The shock of purification was more than enough to jar his concentration in his attempt to flee. Reaching down, Kagome grabbed him by the front of his cloak and lifted him off the ground. Snarling up at him, she shocked him once more with her purification, making sure not to use too much of her power. She didn't want him to die too quickly.
"You bastard… you killed my child!" she growled, shocking him once more and watching as he cried out in agony. The miko was caught by surprised when he suddenly kicked her in the ribs, pulling out of her deadly grasp. He swiftly turned to Hiei and dashed at the hybrid. In his weakened state, his attacks were easy to dodge for the apparition, but Hiei didn't know Kuragari wasn't aiming to attack him. He glanced down at his cloak pocket when he heard it tear. Turning his gaze back to Kuragari, the cougar held the Spirit Pendant in his grasp once more.
Not sure what other powers the pendant possessed and not willing to risk anyone else getting injured or killed; Hiei unsheathed his katana once more and skillfully stuck the tip of his blade into Kuragari's chest. Pulling his weapon back, everyone watched as the demon fell to the ground, still clutching the pendant as if it would save his life. Worry flooded through everyone in the clearing when they heard the cougar chuckling.
"If I can't have her… no one can!" he yelled as he quickly placed the pendant on the ground and pounded his fist onto it, causing the ancient relic to shatter.
A bright light burst from the shattered pieces and spread across Makai. It leaked into the human and spirit realms as well, passing its white light through each realm.
