Chapter 1: The Lightning Wind

Elesa stopped at the poké center just before leaving on her journey to make sure her Pokémon were able to travel. "Nurse, My Emolga got hurt pretty bad in my last battle. Can you help her?" pleaded Elesa. The nurse took the pokéball from Elesa. The nurse looked upset with the young trainer. She then said, "You should really take better care of your Pokémon sweetie. This is the sixth time you've been in here this week. One day it might get hurt so bad not even we here at the poké center can help it." The Nurse saw Elesa was feeling down, "But this time it should be just fine. Oh and I almost forgot I nice man stopped by earlier and left you this Pokémon for you. They said you would eventually come to pick it up."

Elesa was then filled with curiosity. She knew Volkner would never leave a Pokémon for her. He was always against giving gifts. Thoughts raced through her mind. Who was the man? What was the Pokémon? Why did they leave it for me? The nurse returned a few moments later with Elesa's healed Pokémon and the one left by the mysterious man. "Here's your Emolga, good as new. And here's the Pokémon that the man left behind. It's a Jolteon." Elesa's face lit up with excitement. She had always dreamed of having her own Jolteon but was never able to get a hold of one. Now her curiosity took advantage of her. She had to know who this mystery man was. As the nurse turned to walk away Elesa said "Umm, excuse me nurse, but do you know the name of the man who left me the Jolteon? I would really like to thank him for this gift. It means a lot to me."

"Sorry sweetie. He didn't give me his name. He just dropped the Pokémon on the desk and said that you would eventually come by to pick it up. Before I could ask him his name he rushed out the door." The nurse stated.

"Did he look like this guy?" Elesa showed the nurse a picture of her and Volkner.

"Sorry, no. The man had long purple hair. He also had a winged helmet and gloves on." The nurse turned away again "Now I'm very sorry but I need to help other trainer's Pokémon." Elesa immediately blushed. She knew exactly who gave her the Jolteon. And it was defiantly no man! It was Winona, her mom.

Elesa ran back to her apartment to grab some food for her trip and to write to Winona. She hadn't seen her mom in since she was 13 and started her journey to becoming a gym leader. Old memories raced through her mind.

11 years ago….. Long ago when Elesa was just a little girl, a gym leader named Winona, a beautiful slender woman, with long silky purple hair kept in a tight ponytail, and a smooth face with a stoic expression, saw a young Elesa trying to catch a Jolteon with her bare hands. Winona intrigued by the young girl's actions followed after the young Elesa. It didn't take long for the Jolteon to get angry. It quickly turned and electrocuted young Elesa. She fell to the ground unconscious. It was in that moment Winona heroically stepped in. Winona took out her pokéball and called forth her Altaria. After a quick fight she defeated and captured the Jolteon. Winona then turned her gaze behind her and saw Elesa unconscious, covered in electrocution marks. She didn't look well. Winona took Elesa to the hospital to heal from the wild Jolteon's attack. Hours had past and no parents came for Elesa, no uncle, no aunt, no cousins…. No family. A day had past and Elesa finally awoke, with Winona standing at her bedside. Elesa was confused. She wondered who the strange lady was watching over her, why this lady had brought her here and why she saved her. Winona then spoke "How do you feel?"

Young Elesa shyly did not respond but instead cowered from the scary looking Winona by hiding in the hospital sheets. "Come now I don't bite. What's your name little girl?" Winona spoke calmly.

Elesa peeked out of the sheets and spoke "My name is Elesa."

"Why where you chasing that Pokémon?" Winona asked curiously.

"I've been all alone for as long as I can remember" Elesa said timidly. "I wanted to catch that Pokémon so I wouldn't be alone anymore."

"Without a pokéball? That's foolish!" Winona said with a face of disappointment. Elesa then withdrew to her covers hiding beneath them. Winona took her leave letting the young Elesa cower beneath the sheets. Winona walked out to the front desk and spoke to the nurse "Has this girl's family been told what happened yet?"

The nurse replied "I'm sorry but we couldn't find any record of her or her family. We think she might be an orphan or a runaway." Winona came to realize what Elesa meant by being alone. Winona thought for a moment then came to a decision, "Well if she has no family then I shall adopt her." The nurse was shocked and jokingly asked "Are you serious?" Winona gave the nurse a look of absolution. The nurse paused then spoke "We can't just let you adopt her."

"And why not!? You said yourself she is most likely an orphan." Winona barked. Winona was one with a reputation of being fierce and was never one to back down from something she set her mind to. The nurse then stood up and went to go speak to the doctor. A few moments later the doctor returned without the nurse. The doctor asked Winona to follow her to Elesa's room. When the doctor stopped he turned and said "If you truly wish to adopt this young girl we won't stop you, but know if you do decide to adopt her you must being willing to take of her. Now I know you a prominent gym leader in this region but do you really believe you will have the time to raise this young girl properly?" the doctor paused. "If you chose not to adopt her, I promise that we will find a loving family for her."

Winona stood silent; her facial expression still screamed that she was determined to raise Elesa. "I will raise her as my own. End of discussion. Now tell me whatever I need to do to ensure this little girl comes home with me!" Winona barked.

The doctor became nervous, pause for a moment then spoke "I was afraid you would say that. That's why I already took care of it Miss Winona. As soon as she is healthy enough we will release her into your care." Winona then walked into Elesa's room, she was still hiding underneath the blankets. Winona pulled the blankets back and said "You told me you didn't want to be alone anymore earlier right?" Elesa sat up and said with a depressed voice "Yes." Winona sat down next to Elesa and wrapped her around Elesa and softly said "Well you now have me. We're going to live together now."

Elesa's face lit up "Really!?" She exclaimed. Winona gave her a nod. "My names Winona, and now I have the great chance to be your mom. That sound okay with you, Elesa?"

Elesa nodded excitedly. "Well then it's settled then. When you get all better we will go back to my home in Fortree City."

8 years later….. Years had passed and Elesa's 13th birthday was approaching quickly. In the years Winona spent with the young Elesa she came to realize that Elesa not only became really attached her but that she really wanted to follow in her footsteps. Winona then thought for her 13th birthday it was time Elesa received her first Pokémon, It was time Elesa became a trainer. When Elesa's 13th birthday finally came, Winona took Elesa to a store that sold new trainers their first Pokémon. "Well sweetheart, I know how much you want to be like me and I thought for you 13th birthday I'd get you you're very first Pokémon," Winona told Elesa. Elesa got really excited and started jumping. Then she suddenly stopped, looked at Winona and said "You're smiling mom." Winona hadn't noticed and immediately blushed and said "So Elesa what type of Pokémon did you want? You can pick out anyone you want. But it can only be one."

Elesa smirked and then into thought. She had always like electric type but she thought that Winona would be upset if she didn't pick a flying type. Elesa face became masked with worry. "Whatever type you choose sweetheart, I won't get upset with you. Just choose a type of Pokémon you will grow close to and care about as much as I care about you." Winona said with a smile. Elesa then replied "I'd like an electric type Pokémon, mom."

Winona walked over to a salesman and asked "Excuse me sir, but my daughter is looking to get her first Pokémon. Her heart is really set on an electric type. What do you have in stock?"

"Well Miss Winona, unfortunately we don't have much of a selection when it comes to electric Pokémon. We have only two electric type Pokémon in stock, a Pichu and a Emolga." The salesman stated.

Elesa began to think really hard as she can't take both. Before Elesa came to a conclusion Winona crouched done and said "So which do you want Elesa?" Elesa still deep in thought didn't respond. "If you want to know which is stronger I would recommend the Pichu. But know this any Pokémon can be strong if you create a powerful bond with it. Nothing is stronger than a close bond between a trainer and their Pokémon." Elesa continued to think, and then told the salesman "I would like the Emolga mister."

"Very well sweetheart." The salesman said. He pulled out a tiny pokéball and said "Inside here is your Emolga. Every time you want to summon it out click this little button in the center of ball." The salesman then handed the young Elesa her first. Elesa's took her Pokémon and her face lit up with excitement. The salesman then turned to Winona and put his hand out expecting payment. Winona gazed down; Elesa had already opened her pokéball and was playing with her Emolga. Winona grabbed some money out of her bag and paid the salesman. That day is when Elesa decided she was not only going to be a trainer she wanted to be a great gym leader just like her mom, Winona. Elesa's memories subside and she realizes she has reached her apartment. She climbs the stairs to the third floor where her apartment is and right in front of the door is Winona.
