Chapter 6 : Forgive and Forget (Part 3)

It was five minutes before 8 in the morning - A new day of training for the class. Everyone was busy having a chat with each other. Some of them even noticed that there are two trainees who are still not with them. Meanwhile, Eriol was just sitting next to his new friends, Chiharu and Yamazaki. As usual, both have their regular dose of chatting and teasing each other.

Chiharu asked Yamazaki. "I'm not sure..." she said. "But do you think I look good today?"

Yamazaki smirked. "Are you serious with that questions? Should I STILL answer that?"

"Why that reaction? I'm just asking if I look just fine today or not. She said.

Yamazaki answered. "Honestly, today? You're not. I mean, what's with that make-up? You have too much foundation! You also have lipstick on. Are you going to a pub after class?"

Chiharu got irritated "And what do you think of me? You know what, Women like us, we put our make-up on and try to dress up so that we may look presentable and improve our image to the eyes of other people. I understand that you don't care about your looks because you're a man. I'm doing this not because I'm flirting someone. It's just that... this is how I take care of myself."

"I know, right?" says Yamazaki. "That's how people with inferiority complex take care of themselves."

"WHAT?!" Chiharu shouted, gave him a sharp stare. Yamazaki, on the other hand, was kinda frightened seeing her fierceness. "Hey, I'm not serious about that, I'm just kidding!" But Chiharu almost grabbed his neck. Yamazaki then asked help from Eriol. "Eriol, rescue me!"

Eriol broke his silence. "Don't be upset, Chiharu. B...But I think... Yamazaki is right..."

"You see? Even Eriol agrees..." says Yamazaki. Chiharu turned her sharp stares at Eriol like she is about to eat him alive. "Ah - W... what I mean is that... You don't have to ask other people... if you're beautiful or not. Because whatever that day it is, you are. " he explained. Chiharu calmed down.

Eriol continued. "Besides, taking care of oneself... is not just by putting make-up, or jewelries... or even wearing expensive clothing. It's as simple as being true to yourself. Believe me... There's nothing to improve on you, and you don't have to... Because... you're beautiful. Th... That's it."

Chiharu blushed while hearing those words from Eriol. It was like a refreshing cold water that was splashed on the fire that's inside her. Then she hugged him "Ow, you're so sweet..." she said. "I never thought those words will come from you..." then she looked back at Yamazaki with her angry look. "BE A GENTLEMAN LIKE HIM!" Yamazaki answered. "Okay, okay! Just stop looking at me like that, I'm too scared!"

Their in the middle of their conversation when someone had shouted. "Our boss is here!" All of the trainees assembled in front. Then entered Kouichi, Syaoran and Tomoyo.

Tomoyo went in front of the class, and start talking. "Good morning, everyone." The trainees greeted her back. Then, Tomoyo had her first agenda. "I'm not sure if you noticed this, but before we start the class, I just want to tell you something that is very important." She said. Everyone started to look at each other, acting clueless on what she's trying to say.

Then Tomoyo proceeds. "Well, all of you were accepted as trainees in this company. We invested a huge amount of money and resources to hire people like you. And as trainees, we expect you to adhere with our rules and regulations in order for us to hire you as full-pledged employees. One of them is respect, not just for us who have a higher position in this company, but with your co-trainees as well." The trainees still don't get what's she's trying to say. Not even Eriol. Then, she announced the big news. "Yesterday, I witnessed two trainees bullying one of your co-trainees. There are no words to describe what they have done, as these two might have hurt that trainee if no one stopped them. So if you noticed that the two of you are not here, don't be surprised - I fired them."

Although Eriol knew that it was him that Tomoyo referred him as the one who almost got hurt by these two, he was still surprised that they got laid-off. Everyone was whispering at each other, then Kouichi shouted - "Silence!" Then, he asked Tomoyo to continue.

"I know you'll react that way. Especially that they admitted that some of you knew what they'll do to that trainee before I fire them." Almost all of them bowed down, feeling guilty of what she said. Tomoyo continues. "You should be thankful that I didn't caught you. But remember this - Once you got caught, you may pack your belongings and leave. You're not welcome in this company. I don't appreciate this kind of behavior" Then she ordered them to enter the classroom. "Now, I want you to to go inside your training room. Kouichi-san, proceed with the class."

"Yes. ma'am" he said, as everyone started their day with a heavy heart.

It was lunch time when Eriol saw Tomoyo walking in the corridor carrying some work papers. He rushed in to confront her. "Hey, you!" he shouted. "What did you do to them?" Tomoyo ignored him and continued to walk. But then he grabbed her left arm, she stopped. "I'm asking you..." he continued. "Why did you fire them?"

Tomoyo stopped, and talked to him. "You're asking why why did I fire them?" she asked. "I think you know the answer, right? They tried to hurt you. I saw it, and I didn't liked it. So I fired them - as simple as that."

- "But they didn't hurt you, right?"

"Of course, they did!" Eriol had a long stare, Tomoyo stuttered. "Ah - What I mean is that... I'm your boss, and I don't like seeing other people hurting you. I'll do the same thing even if it was not you, anyway!"

But Eriol argues "But at least you could have... given them a chance. You know... How 'bout their family? I'm sure... they try to get this job for them..."

"And have they thought of their family before they do something against you?" she asked. Eriol went silent. Then she continues. "I gave you an assurance before that we will treat you well, and I'm striving my very best for you , and other of our trainees to get that. If something happens to you because of what they might have done to you, them it will be our responsibility. We're just upholding our rules for the benefit of our workers. They did bad against you, they have to be reprimanded."

"But..." Eriol insists that it was wrong for her to let those people be relieved from training, but Tomoyo butts in. "No ifs, no buts... My decision is final." She turned her back and walked away, but just as she walks away, Eriol shouted. "Tomorrow..." he said, "I'll sen you my resignation..."

Tomoyo stopped walking, then went back to Eriol. "What did you say?" she asked. "You'll resign because I removed those who hurt you? Look... I'm just trying to make you feel that you deserve respect, and I didn't like what they've done to you."

"I'm used to it. Eriol said. "I know being hurt isn't fun being hurt but I'm used to it... since I was a kid... it's always like that... that's why I don't others to feel the same thing that I experienced..."

"So you're saying I should forgive them?" she asked. "... and what if they do it again? I'm just upholding our rules. Do it once and they will mess with me. Just tell me how many times you should forgive someone before you realize that they acted badly towards you?"

"We're different, ma'am." Eriol told her, "I understand that there are rules... But please don't use it against them... It doesn't mean that they will do it again if you forgive them. They may do unlikable things towards me but it doesn't mean they don't deserve forgiveness... Please don't fire them because of me..."

Tomoyo was speechless. She thought, how could someone asks her to forgive those people who hurt him. Both of them then realized that lunch is about to end. "Lunch is almost over..." says Eriol. "I have to go now... I'm sorry." He bowed down and walked fast towards the class room. Tomoyo looks toward him, as she recalls her childhood.

FLASHBACK

Tomoyo's family was considered poor that time. When she was five, she was known for being tough, that every time someone bullies her, she fights back. She always goes home after school, with some scars and scratches. Every time her father asked her what happened, she always tells him with pride that she fought a number of bad kids in her kindergarten, those who tried to hurt her friends, and those who tried to bully her. But her father always remind her that fighting isn't good.

One day, she went home, only to find out a group of people beating his father. They were loan sharks. Sonoko, her mother, had a delicate pregnancy that time and her father has to borrow a huge amount of money to cover the expenses. He cannot borrow from his friends because they're also out of money. He and Sonoko had left the Daidouji residence, too, since they didn't approved their marriage. That's why he turned to loan sharks to borrow some.

She rushed in to help her father, she bit one of the loan sharks from his left arm, but one of the loan sharks pushed him, and she fell on the ground. His father saw it and he punched him "Never hurt my Child!" he said but the group kept on beating him. When they were satisfied, one of them threatened him to kidnap Tomoyo and sell her if he failed to repay them within a month, then they left."

Inside their house, Tomoyo tried to treat her father's wound. Then she asked him. "Papa... Those people were bad, and they're kicking and punching you...yet, you didn't fought back... Why?"

Her father smiled. "You know why?" he said "Because...Papa thinks that fighting is bad."

"But they hurt you!" she insisted. "When I grow up, I will find those loan sharks and beat them up until their bones break!"

His father shook his head, as he moved beside her. Then he said this to her. "Tomoyo, my daughter. I don't want others to hurt you. But Papa doesn't want you to hurt others, too. Because if you cause pain to those who bully you, both of you will be hurt. Both of you will be sad. I want you to be a good example and never never hurt other people. You're still a kid, but you will understand what I'm saying as you grow old." Tomoyo just looked at his father's eyes as he continues. "You will never win if you use violence. if someone harms you, fight them with diplomacy and forgiveness. You saw me punch one of them, but don't try that, okay?"

Another day had ended, and the trainees went home. Tomoyo looks outside the window, thinking deeply. Syaoran noticed her while reviewing some paper works. "Something's bothering you, right?"

Tomoyo sighed "No, nothing. I just remember my father."

"Okay" Syaoran said, as he continues looking onto the papers. Then, Tomoyo asked him. "Hey, Syaoran... For instance, you're the boss, then you saw someone who hurts his co-epmloyee. Normally, you will punish him, right?"

- "Yeah, that's true." he said.

"But if this co-employee of his asked you to forgive the who who harmed him, what will you do?"

- "Huh? What kind of question is that? Of course, I won't! It's my company's policy to show respect not only to me, their boss, but to other employees as well!" Then, Syaoran realized something. "Wait a minute... Don't tell me..."

Tomoyo sat on her desk."Eriol told me that he will resign if I didn't let those bullies return to us." She said.

- "Seriously?!" he shouted. "And Why the heck he wants to save them?'

"I don't know what's in his mind. He just wants me to revoke my decision, saying that he doesn't to see other people go because of him. I let him understand but I just don't know... Maybe he's just too stupid, too forgiving, or... he's just a true person... too good to be true, I guess."

- "Maybe it's the first one." he said.

"Quit it!" says Tomoyo. But then, so he stared back at the window and reminiscing. "You know what, I remember my father. He was big and kinda scary. But he's gentle, forgiving, and he's a type of person that doesn't easily become angry. You might laugh at me, but I admire those people who are so forgiving, no matter how many times others have hurt them. That made me realize that I'm getting harsh on other people."

- "So... what's you're take? Are you gonna let those people back? Or you will letting Eriol go?"

"Not sure." she said. "Those people should learn their lesson. But I don't want to lose Eriol, either. I sworn that I will help him realize that he deserves to be respected, and that I will help him no matter what. But it's just difficult."

- "Well, it's your decision." Syaoran told her. "I'll go outside and buy some food. Maybe you're just hungry." He went outside, while Tomoyo still stares outside, looking at the beautiful sunset.

The next morning, Eriol was in Tomoyo's room. With him is his letter of resignation. "I told you... I'm serious..." he said.

Tomoyo grabbed the folded letter. Then she tells him, "Did I mentioned to you before that I really hate good boys?." She tears off the letter in pieces, Eriol was shocked. Then, Tomoyo smiled, and called someone from outside. "Come in, guys!"

Two guys entered the room. Those two who bullied Eriol. He was amazed that Tomoyo listened to him, and that she let them stay. The two approached Eriol. They were teary-eyed, and all they could say is "Sorry" and "Thank you". Without hesitation, Eriol grabbed their hands, accepting their apology.

It was lunch when Tomoyo saw those three together, laughing and sharing their food together. Then, they Get to know each other.

"I... I'm Eriol... Eriol Hiiragizawa. Weird name, right?..."

"No, that's a good name." says one of them " By the way, I'm Haruto. Kirisawa Haruto."

"Mine's Yuri. Katsudomo Yuri. Sounds feminine, but I'm a man!"

She sighed with relief, seeing these three together. She remembers what her father told her, then she said to herself. "Father, you always tell me to forgive those who hurt me... that I'll win with diplomacy and forgiveness. You also told me that I'll understand everything once I grow up. Now, I know why, and I thank you for all of your wise words."
