Chapter 14 : Distance (Part 1)
Tomoyo and Eriol were inside the food shop. Both were seated facing each other.
Tomoyo was just sitting comfortably. "Isn't this place lovely?"
"Uh?... Um... it's nice." said Eriol, while nodding.
"I usually order dim sum in this place. You should try it,." Using chopsticks, Tomoyo took a sample and placed it on Eriol's plate. He was just looking at her.
She took a bite. "Mm-mmm!" She said. Then, she looked at Eriol and noticed that he's not eating. "Take a bite! It will be cold if you don't eat it."
Seconds later, Eriol asked her. "W... why are you doing this to me"
"Huh?" said Tomoyo
Eriol continues. "W... why are you like this every time we meet... I mean...what will happen if other employees see us together?"
"So what?" Tomoyo replies. "Should they give us a damn? Is treating a friend wrong?"
"That's not what I mean... What I'm trying to say is that they might think of us as Co..." Eriol stuttered for a bit. She looked at him curiously.
"Co...Co..." Eriol bowed his head, trying to cover his face that is in red.
"They might think of us as what?..." Tomoyo asked.
- "Co... Y... you're the company head! You should not even bring an employee for personal matters."
"If so, I'll tell them that I brought you here for business purposes."
- "Y...you're not getting my point..." Says Eriol.
"Your point? What's your point? I'm just trying to get close to my employees, that it. Am I offending you with the way I treat you?"
- "No... it's not that it's offensive... it's just that... mmm..."
"What?"
"Uh... it...it's..." Eriol tried to avoid having eye contact with Tomoyo by looking around. Before he got a chance to answer her question, he saw the wall clock. "I... it's five o'clock... sorry, but I have to go. See you tomorrow." He immediately stood in his seat and walked outside.
"Eriol, wait!" Tomoyo followed him outside, and stopped him by grabbing his left wrist. "Have I done something wrong? Talk to me." Tomoyo begged. "...Please."
But Eriol, with his husky voice, insists. "M.. my father is waiting for me... maybe we should talk again next time."
"Look, I'm just trying to be good for you. Is there a problem with me? If i offended you, I'm sorry..." says Tomoyo.
As the cold breeze pass by, they looked at each other for a bit. Then, Eriol told her - "No... the problem is not you. It's me."
"What do you mean it's you?" she asked.
Eriol did not answer. When the bus arrived, he removed Tomoyo's hands over his wrist. "See you around. ...Be safe." He bowed his head again and he stepped into the bus. He left Tomoyo wondering why he acted that way to her.
There were only 5 passengers inside the bus that time, including Eriol. He sat at the last row, left corner of the bus. He was thinking about what happened that time. He's actually getting confused with the things crossing his mind. "Was she upset because of what I told her?". He thought about her kindness towards him, then the things he told her a while back.
"I shouldn't have acted that way towards her. All she did is to be kind to me."
"But she's doing it as if we're more than friends... and I'm getting used to it..."
He felt a sudden jolt from his body.
"What's happening to me..."
He held his right chest, and felt his heart beating fast.
"No... shouldn't think of it that way..."
His heart beats faster. "She's my boss... I don't think she deserves someone like me..."
His mind keeps on reminding him about her gentleness towards him, just like a music that keeps on playing on top of his head. Tears almost fell from his eyes. "Maybe I should avoid getting closer to her... because if not...if not..."
"I might fall for her..."
