Chapter 8
Sigyn paced back and forth, her arms crossed as she waited impatiently in the room Loki had kept her in. She knew chaos was soon to come and the anticipation was getting on her nerves. Perhaps the Avengers had stopped him? Hopefully.
Every now and then a headache would form and she would be wrapped into yet another memory, although she was quite grateful for remembering.
This one in particular made her feel a sort of empty sadness, when in her memory it had only brought but overwhelming joy..
It was a beautiful day in Asgard like it always was. Her family was visiting the royal palace yet again. For her most closest sister Nanna was betrothed to Balder, cousin of Thor and Loki. It was all Nanna could talk about for several weeks, how ecstatic she was to be engaged to the man she has been in love with for years, only to stop when they finally arrived at their destination.
Now, Sigyn sat in the gardens alone, like she does every time when first arriving in Asgard, waiting on a certain someone she couldn't stop thinking about either. She knew not where her other sisters wandered off to but she was relieved she had a few moments alone for the time being.
She walked over to the lovely fountain that was placed at the center of the maze like garden. It was simply gigantic. You could always see the water splashing up from the very top of the maze no matter where you stood in the gardens, other than being absolutely beautiful it was also used to help find your way out. One could certainly get lost here at night if they weren't careful.
Sigyn sat at the fountains edge, one hand resting in her lap while the other twirled a silky pink flower blossom around in the crystal blue water. Any moment now Loki would meet her, Just like they always do and they would finally discuss what he had wanted so desperately to talk to her about but would not dare say in his letters.
Sigyn smiled brightly, feeling warmth heat up her cheeks.
Suddenly she felt a presence behind her.
Loki.
She turned around with the brightest of smiles. But to her surprise a woman stood there instead.
She was a tall woman, maybe a few inches shorter than Loki. Skin an Asgardian tan. Her hair was quite Voluminous, a Golden blonde shade that fell in thick waves behind her back. She wore a dark green dress that hugged her body tightly, showing off all of her curves. A dark red stained her eyes, like every Asgardian's, were royal blue. Although the look in her eyes were sharp and daring.. Of course she was quite gorgeous.. All Asgardians were.
But something about this woman felt eerie. She stared at Sigyn as if she knew things about her that she could not possibly know..
The woman kept her distance, but not in the least bit timid. A smug sort of confidence flowed from the way she carried herself to the poised look upon her face.
Sigyn swallowed down her discomfort, wanting to be polite, she smiled sweetly at her.
"Hello. My name i-"
"I know who you are." She cut her off abruptly. Her voice was velvety with a harsh undertone.
Sigyn swallowed silently, feeling chills crawl up her spine..
"My, my.. Aren't you the young beauty. I must say, his taste is rather.. different." Her face scrunched up a little at the word different. Sigyn noticed this.
Was that a compliment..? Sigyn wondered quite confused. But who was she talking about?
"His taste..?" Sigyn asked curiously.
The stunning woman simply gave a wicked smile.
"Loki of course.. He's told me so much about you." She shook her thick waves and rested her hands on her hips.
"I see.." Sigyn paused trying to remember her.. nothing came to mind. "Loki has never mentioned you to me." Sigyn's gaze now fixated on her hands clasped in her lap. She suddenly felt this knot in her throat..maybe the two of them had known each other in a closer kind of way..
Sigyn soon realized she had yet to know her name. She quickly looked up at the woman once more.
"Oh, pardon me, I have yet to ask your name, perhaps then I will know who you are? For you know who I am, he must have surely mentioned you." Sigyn tried for another smile but it didn't come out quite as genuine as she'd tried for. She hoped the woman didn't notice.
The strange woman seemed to be nothing but bored now.
"My name is not important. I am just glad I have finally gotten the chance to meet you. Face to face." Impatience shot across her sharp features..
Sigyn was very much confused but she did not want to push her. She did not want to be in the presence of this woman any longer.
Sigyn gave a quick nod. "The same to you." Her voice came out in almost a whisper as the woman already began to turn around and walk away.
Within what seemed like a blink of an eye she was gone. Just disappeared behind nothing.
Sigyn stared off to where she had disappeared trying to collect herself. She felt almost frightened for some reason..She'd hoped never to cross paths with her again.
"What ever are you staring at?"
Sigyn slightly jumped from hearing the sudden deep voice behind her, quickly turning around.
Just seeing him made her feel so much lighter. The eerily feeling had began to dissipate. She ran to him instantly then, wrapping her arms around him as he did the same.
"What had taken you so long?" Sigyn asked looking up at him. He was quite taller than her.
"My apologies, love. Was playing a bit of mischief on Thor before I left." Loki smiled widely with a chuckle as he replayed it in his mind.
Sigyn gasped. "Without me!?"
"I couldn't resist." He winked at her.
Sigyn giggled. "You must tell me everything about it! You owe as much." She crossed her arms teasingly.
"Lets just say it involves his armor and undergarments being see-through whilst having a meeting with Lady Sif."
Sigyn's hands flew up to her mouth stifling a loud laugh.
"Oh, Loki you didn't!" She said through giggles when she could finally breath.
"Oh. I did." His smile was nothing but smug.
Loki watched Sigyn's lovely smile widen and listened to her lively and contagious laughter before he reluctantly changed the subject. Knowing he could make her laugh like so always made Loki feel a sort of triumph he only ever felt with her.
"Now, may we speak of this more later, love? I have something I must ask you, I can not bare to wait any longer." Loki's smile became unusually soft.
Sigyn noticed this immediately and it had stopped her laughter almost instantly except for a few more giggles here and there. Everyone knew once you had Sigyn laughing hard enough it was hard to get her to stop. But when she eventually had they both sat on the fountain's edge. Loki held both her hands in his.
Loki looked as if he had so much to say but didn't possibly know where to start. He looked down and out of her gaze before letting out a breathy laugh. His eyebrows lifted. "This is much harder than I initially thought."
"What is it my love?" She pressed in a gentle tone.
Loki looked in her eyes holding her gaze in his. The sky behind him was a bright pink with shades of orange for the sun was going down. They had arrived a little late in the evening..
"Do you remember when we first met?" Loki asked softy never looking away from her eyes.
Sigyn couldn't help but smile brightly at this.
"Of course. You stood out so oddly than the rest of the children in Asgard, your features so plainly different..just like me. I remember we didn't say a word to one another all day until that night."
Loki smiled this time. "Yes. I went out looking for you and here you were at this very spot.. Do you remember what happened next?" He asked with a soothing tone.
Sigyn giggled. "You came and sat beside me but you would not speak. Instead you lifted up a hand and made fireflies appear from thin air. I had never seen sorcery in person before, it was magnificent. You used to send me messages in the water using fireflies so I could see what you had written in the dark."
Loki squeezed Sigyn's hands tighter and smiled.
"Yes, my only communication to you. I did not have quite the silver tongue then as I do now." He chuckled.
Sigyn laughed. "By the end of the night you finally spoke to me. And ever since you had never had to use fireflies."
Loki laughed. "I merely was loosing energy trying to concoct such insects and simply gave up."
Sigyn laughed with him. "It is no secret to everyone that we have met here ever since." Sigyn scooted closer to Loki.
Loki licked his lips, his eyes thinking.
"Yes. That is why this is the perfect place." Loki smiled widely.
Sigyn tilted her head to the side. "Perfect place for what?"
A spark of mischief lit in Loki's emerald eyes, making chills crawl up Sigyns body. The sky was now dark..exactly like the first night they met.
Loki let go of Sigyn's hand and placed it faintly on top of the water.
She watched as a green light spread across the water, lighting up both her and Loki's face in the darkness. The green light then turned into green fireflies, slowly, they formed words..
Sigyn read the message, she could hear her own heart in her chest, her gaze finding Loki's once more.
The mixture of the neon green light and his already green eyes made them that much more intense.. The look in them however were nothing but confident, as if daring her to say yes.
Sigyn swallowed down the shock. She had never been so happy in all of her life..
"Loki, I would want nothing more than to be your wife. I would love to marry you."
Loki kissed her immediately, slowly and gently. He moved his hand to the center of her back, guiding her closer to him until she was pressed tightly up against his chest. They stayed like this for an awfully long while before reluctantly breaking away.
"There is nothing I wouldn't do to keep you safe. I would kill for you, Sigyn. Always remember that." Loki whispered, his eyes were completely serious, his expression dark. Sigyn swallowed back joyful tears and closed her eyes, resting her forehead on his...
Sigyn's fingers traced over her mouth, remembering that day so clearly now. She felt warm tears sting her cheeks.. She remembered all of those day waiting for him by the fountain, all of those times when they were children as well..
As if a new light turned on in her mind she realized one thing so very clear now. She couldn't shake the pure love she felt for Loki. Not the loki he was but the Loki he is now. For everything she had fet for him came rushing back to her, clawing its way at her heart. No matter who he turned out to be she couldn't help but love him still.
No matter how much it pained her. And the odd thing is, she believed she loved him more now then she ever had before. She has never seen such a dark side of him but she loved him all the same. Although it frightened her, she felt the need to understand him better. Whatever it was he was going through she wanted to help him through it. At the very least be there for him this time. Whether he changes or not..She would be there.
Abruptly It all came back to her like a hard and heavy wave crashing down upon her, making her almost scream in agony. Centuries of memories were resurfacing in her mind all at once, right when she had almost focused on a second of one it was gone and on to the next.
She fell to the floor, her arms crossed over her forehead as she squinted in pain. It felt like a life time before the pain had dissipated...
When it finally had it was as if a huge weight had lifted from her. She felt breathless and overwhelmed, along with a new feeling of knowing herself better than she had these last two years.
Loki had told her it was a matter of time before her memories would be fully restored..
But one thing disturbed her.. she could not remember who had done it still! And anything after the memory of when he proposed to her.. It then dawned on her that that was the last day she ever saw him until now..
The day they were betrothed was the happiest day of her life and then it was gone. Her memories ripped away. Who had done this to her...why.
Why couldn't she remember?
She would find out, she had to, but that could wait. As much as it angered her there was more important things going on at the moment.
Then as if on cue, her thoughts were ripped away by a sudden earthquake. She immediately ran to the window, both hands pressed up against the glass as she looked outward and then down toward the people. something was going to happen and she needed to be out there to help when it did. But first she needed to get out of this room.
