Blaine had meant to go to work the next day but it turned out Cooper was in town. He had tried to tell Cooper that he was too busy but Cooper wasn't having any of it and he insisted on taking Blaine to the restaurant BreadstiX for lunch before going to see their mother, and he had said their mother would want them to spend as much time together while she was recovering so he agreed, even though he felt like he didn't want to.
Blaine was glad however he went to BreadstiX because he felt Kurt deserved to be taken to a much more romantic spot on their first date.
He had rang Burt too apologize and luckily Kurt had been in school. Burt was all good with it; he said they could start on Monday anyway that's when the garage needed more people working there. They were extremely busy on a Monday afternoons for some reason. So Burt just told him not to worry and make sure he tell Kurt if he had to cancel their date, but Blaine promised Burt he wouldn't let Kurt down as well.
"You're not letting us down Blaine, we Hummel's understand the meaning of family," Blaine wished he could give Burt father of the year award and said as much.
"Any father would do the same for their kid," Burt commented over the phone having not thought deeply into it as Blaine said "I guess so, bye Burt, see you Monday," Burt frowned wondering if he said something wrong.
Kurt was doing Zumba early that morning, he had found a clip of his favourite Lady Gaga song Born this way by DLB4Yanks which was perfect because they were doing that song in Glee Club with t-shirts made by Ms Pillbury and Kurt wanted to show his off in Zumba next time .
On their date the next day which was Monday when Burt told him Blaine was taking him out instead of on Saturday like they had planned Blaine had taken him on a picnic. Kurt was pleasantly surprised as he was expecting the usual restaurant all his friends went to and he got to brag about it beforehand to Mercedes that he had a date!
"So…I'd really like to do that again sometime," Blaine said after they kissed and Kurt outside as Kurt made sure Burt wasn't looking in the window by looking over his shoulder before playing with Blaine's leather jacket he was wearing.
He looked gorgeous. Sometimes he wore his suspenders but this leather look with skinny jeans was almost like a badboy tease and Kurt loved it.
"Mmm…well I don't know, I've been taught not to talk to strangers, Prince Charming, although I'm tempted by your good looks,"
Blaine smirked and appreciated the moonlight that hit Kurt's impeccable face.
"Oh I see, you're just in this" Blaine waved his hand between them "because I have a nice butt, you pretty much said that from day one, I should know better,"
"Mhm," Kurt giggled and Blaine stepped closer his eyes growing dark. Kurt could feel his palms sweating.
"Are we boyfriends?" Kurt blurted out before he could help himself as Blaine was staring at him way too intently to be just friends. Blaine raised an eyebrow and gave him a mockery look of never hearing the term before. Kurt smacked his arm. "Blaine!"
Blaine laughed. "I was hoping we were, I guess I never asked did I?"
Kurt shook his head in confirmation but smiled. "Well then Kurt Hummel, will you be my boyfriend?" Blaine asked in more quiet and a hint of nerves tone.
Kurt let out a loud laugh of pure joy his face lit up like a Christmas tree as Blaine grabbed his hand looking at him seriously.
"Is that a yes?" Blaine asked sincerely eyes locking his. Kurt nodded biting his bottom lip trying not to laugh again "Yeah…yes, of course, I'll be your boyfriend Blaine," Blaine grinned as he leaned over and kissed Kurt with as much passion as he tried to muster. Kurt was smiling into the kiss and Blaine couldn't help but run his lips over Kurt's bottom asking for entrance before Burt opened the door. "Are you two coming in or what?"
Blaine's expression was priceless almost falling over as Kurt caught him in time and hid his face in the leather of Blaine's arm. Blaine bit his lip still shocked and looked to Burt who was taking this surprisingly well.
"Dad!" Kurt said embarrassed. Burt looked unfazed "What, I heard the car out there 10 minutes ago, now you done kissing? The football is about to start if you want to join me Blaine,"
"DAD" Kurt said again but not saying much else.
Blaine was smiling too much for Burt to be angry at him and he winked at Blaine. Blaine gave him a thumbs up whilst Kurt wasn't looking.
"Goodnight boyfriend," Blaine whispered into Kurt's ear who could only melt on the spot as he whispered back goodbye with one last peck. "Bye Mr Hummel!" Blaine put out a hand to shake Kurt's fathers who patted him on the back instead.
"You're not coming in?" Burt asked and Blaine laughed. "Sorry sir I'd love to but first I got to go see my mother," Burt nodded his approval and waved him off. "Don't worry about it, just go see your mom, your welcome back anytime," He looked to his son who looked devastated that the night was over. "Boyfriend huh?"
He said as Blaine's car went out of view and it was just the two of them.
"Do you have super hearing or what?" Kurt asked as he went inside with Burt holding the door wide and smirking.
"All fathers have it," Burt chuckled as Kurt groaned.
The doorbell rang at the Hummel's house at 6:30am on Monday. Burt frowned wondering who it could be before calling out to his son. "Kurt, can you get that? I got to get ready we have a new worker coming today in an hour to be exact,"
"Dad I have to go to school!" Kurt shouted from his room eating a piece of toast while he got his satchel packed.
"You don't have to get there till 8 you can spare 10 minutes of driving to answer the door! Besides what are you gonna learn in the first 10 minutes of class?" Burt answered.
Kurt didn't have it in him as he thought about it 'yeah but if he was late to rehearsals for Cheerios' which Sue Sylvester decided to do when his French class was on since he was so good at it, 'she will probably do the privilege of helping his enemies throw him in the dumpster during lunch time or his arrival'. There was no point wasting time he threw out his unfinished toast on his way to open it only be surprised.
"Blaine!" Kurt said eyes widened as he saw Blaine standing there with a half smile which didn't reach his eyes. That's the first thing he noticed. The second thing he noticed was that his eyes were red shot which made Kurt worry. "Blaine? What's wrong?" Blaine took a step forward and without warning closed the gap kissing him desperately.
Kurt managed to move after 5 seconds and brought his right hand to the back of Blaine's head to hold him there. When Blaine went to deepen the kiss even more sucking on Kurt's bottom lip causing him to shiver; Kurt pulled back.
"I'm sorry…" Blaine looked ashamed and completely lost with himself when he realized he hadn't even said hello.
"Hey, no I'm not angry just tell me what's going on" Kurt cupped his cheek, stroking it gently when Blaine didn't say anything looking to disoriented to give an answer Kurt gave him another kiss which he could see helped Blaine relax a bit more as his shoulders loosened and Blaine gave Kurt a quick peck freely once more before letting Kurt go so he could reply but they were interrupted by a figure standing behind Kurt.
"Ah Blaine, you're here early," Kurt heard his dad say almost jumping in surprise as Blaine nodded towards Burt with a small smile.
"Everything alright?" Burt asked as he looked at the two and could feel the tension in the air.
"I'm sorry I know it's early in the morning Mr Hummel. I wanted to stop by at the hospital before coming here," Blaine looked like he was having trouble saying what he needed to say. It was obviously not very good because he slightly winced as Burt's eyes locked onto his giving him a look that meant well what happened?
Kurt gaze softened "How is your mother?" trying to help him out. He wanted to kiss him again and hug him tightly but his father was watching Blaine with impatience by the look of his face.
"She…she can't open her eyes, I left while she had surgery yesterday…and she was fine but now,"
Blaine closed his eyes "She can't see me, she can't see anything," He said and Kurt immediately pulled him inside. "Come on," He half held his side as he walked Blaine to sit down.
Kurt argued as Blaine nodded too weakly and Kurt got him in a chair and poured out a cup of coffee left in the machine for him.
"You don't have to start today Blaine, if you want to be at the hospital, it's got to be hard on you and the job will always be there,"
Blaine looked overwhelmingly grateful as he let Kurt reach over and grab his hand to squeeze it. Blaine held on bounding their fingers together.
Kurt looked up at his father like he heard him incorrectly. "What job?"
"I'm giving Blaine a job in the garage," Burt said "When his mother gets better," He added sympathetically to Blaine sitting on the table opposite Kurt who simply nodded as Kurt looked to Blaine beaming for him. "Really?"
"Yeah, your dad was going to let me start today but…, we wanted to surprise you,"
Kurt smiled at him even though Blaine looked exhausted and upset he still managed to smile back at Kurt and rubbed his thumb over Kurt's front palm like he had done at the lima bean. "What do you put on your hand to make it so soft?" He asked quietly and even though Burt heard he pretended not to but he couldn't help but grin when Kurt blushed and murmured
"It's a secret,"
Burt really didn't want to interrupt them, but he could see time ticking away and his business needed them in order for both Kurt and Blaine now to have a future, he sighed as he looked at the short moment of gratitude they both shared with each other for having the other one there. They were obviously in love and Burt wondered if they knew it yet.
He looked at Kurt's face and had a feeling his son could feel it but Blaine… Blaine he could see was struggling internally he didn't know what the kid was thinking, but right now it was enough. It was enough that he was here with Kurt whether they were boyfriends or not.
"Listen kid, I gotta get to the garage, how about you go with Blaine to the hospital? Keep him some company?"
Kurt instantly nodded but Blaine's eyes fell on Kurt's father "Sir, are you sure you don't need any help?"
"Right now I what I need is for you to be with your mother, if you feel up to it you can come in the afternoon, but only if you're up to it,"
"Alright," Blaine thanked Burt as Kurt looked grateful at his dad.
"Kurt, you can skip school today, only for today, make sure Blaine's alright,"
Kurt got up and hugged his father.
"Yeah yeah, okay I'll see you later," Burt added after hugging Kurt and then surprising Blaine by giving him a pat on the shoulder. "Take care buddy,"
