Annabeth's POV
My shoes echo off the ground with each step as I walk into a large, gray room. On my right, a bright red room is occupied by a gathering of loud Gamemakers. I instantly spot Seneca Crane, who points to me and says something to a female next to him. The rest of the Gamemakers turn their heads just as I reach a rack of swords and daggers.
I choose a dagger that reminds me the most of the one Luke gave me years before- a bronze, black hilted dagger with the symbol of the Capitol engraved into the blade. I turn my back to a dummy on my left, and pause to breath. Here goes everything.
I suddenly turn around, and, with my dagger held out, slice the head off the first dummy. I let go of my dagger and it embeds itself into the neck of another dummy, which falls to the ground with a thump. I walk over and retrieve my dagger, quickly glancing over at the Gamemakers. Seneca Crane looks both impressed and suspicious, along with the female next to him. The rest of the Gamemakers are only half paying attention as they drink and converse with each other.
I grab another dagger off the rack, and, with a burst of courage, throw the daggers at the heads of two dummies. One of the daggers only gets to the chest of one dummy, while the other digs itself into the head of another. Still, a few more Gamemakers decide to pay attention to what I'm doing. I realize that to make it a definite that I got a good score, I'll need more than just skill. I need to show the Gamemakers something they've never seen before or will ever see again. If I ever return to Camp Half Blood, I'm going to thank Chiron for what I thought at the time were "useless lessons."
After getting back my two daggers, I position two dummies to face the wall across from Gamemakers. I leave enough space between the dummies and the wall so I can gain speed and successfully complete the move. From the corner of my eye, I notice that the Gamemakers have all become silent and are all watching me. Stay calm.
I take a deep breath and take a few steps away from the wall. I grip my daggers in my hands and force myself to keep calm. I have to be quick, because I only have a few minutes left to leave a good impression on the Gamemakers. Okay, that's it. I'm doing this.
I run towards the wall, and, by remembering Chiron's lessons, somehow manage to lift myself off the ground and into the air. Everything seems to slow down, and, as I'm upside in midair, I see the female Seneca Crane was talking rise from her seat to get a closer look at me.
Pain shoots up through my legs as I land on the ground, but I ignore and quickly stab the two dummies in the back of the head. I stand there for a second, breathing heavily, my feet throbbing. I turn around to face the still silent Gamemakers, and shrug, "I'm guessing I'm out of time?"
One of the Gamemakers answers after a moment, "Yes. Your last move was still in the time limit, though, and will still be a factor in your score. State your name and district, please."
I sigh a breath of relief and nod, "Annabeth Chase, District Four."
And with that, I turn and walk out of the room.
I'm only going to write about Annabeth's time in front of Gamemakers, but you'll find out what everyone else did eventually.
Later that day..
Nico's POV
"...From District Three... scored an...!" Exclaimed Caesar Flickerman from the TV. Thalia, Seeder, Chaf, and I were all sitting on the couch anxiously as we waited for our scores. I wasn't paying attention to the first few scores, until Percy's face appeared on the TV. Thalia grabbed my hand for support as Caesar paused.
"Perseus Jackson, the male tribute from District Four, scored an eleven!"
Thalia let out a sigh of relief as soon as Percy's scored was released, and, I have to admit it, I did, too. I knew Percy was going to get a good score, but I'm not really sure how the Gamemakers judge you. Hopefully the rest of us did well, too.
"Annabeth Chase, the female tribute from District Four, scored a twelve!"
A twelve? Isn't that the highest score you can get? Thalia cheers in happiness at her friend's score, and turns over to kiss me a kiss on the cheek. Woah. Now I feel like cheering in happiness.
But that happiness ends as the next name and score are released.
"Luke Castellan, the male tribute from District Five, scored a twelve!" The blue haired man from the TV exclaims.
"What?!" Thalia stands up in protest, "When was he a tribute?!" I stay seated and stare forward in surprise. Was he in the Reaping?
Seeder looks up at Thalia, "The District Five male mysteriously went missing, and Luke replaced him. It's not a big deal, the Capitol told everyone that they have it under control."
That explains it. Luke must've gotten rid of the real tribute so he could get a spot. Instead of just going to the Reaping, he decided to do things his own, evil way.
"I guess we're going to face Luke in the arena," Thalia says numbly. She sits back down next to me, but keeps her distance.
"Thalia, we'll find a way out of this mess," I whisper to her. She nods but doesn't look at me. I may not be the best with girls, but I can tell when someone needs time to think and be alone.
"Nico Di Angelo, the male tribute from District eleven, scored a nine!"
Seeder and Chaf congratulate me, and I say thanks dismissively.
"Thalia Grace, the female tribute from District eleven, scored a ten!"
"Congratulations, Thalia," I tell her.
"Thanks," She replies and fakes a smile.
I might update later, but I'm not sure.
