Percy's POV
That night…
Annabeth sits across from me on my bedroom floor, yawning loudly. We've been trying, yet again, to come up with a plan for the arena, which would be much easier if Nico and Thalia were here. I can easily tell that Annabeth's stressing herself out over not being able to come up with anything. Who knew it'd be easier to constantly kill monsters than escape an arena created by mortals? I just hope we manage to find something, and soon.
"This is impossible," Annabeth complains, leaning her head against the wall. She closes her eyes, sighs after a moment, and opens them again. "Maybe we could… no, that wouldn't work."
I sigh, putting my head in my hands, "What's preventing us from just leaving? Monsters?"
"No, there's a force field surrounding the entire arena, and it fries anything it touches."
"Great."
Annabeth groans, "I wish this was easier. I wish we could just make the entire arena malfunction."
"Why can't we?" I ask, lifting my head up to see Annabeth's reaction.
She pauses, considering the possibility. After a moment, she replies, "Maybe, but the chances may be slim. I'll have to think about it. In the meantime, we should both get some rest. We'll need all the sleep we can get for tomorrow." And with that, Annabeth kisses me, softly. She pulls back after a second, stands up, and walks back to her bedroom.
With a groan, and I stand up and lazily get into bed. After a long while of staring blankly at the ceiling, I finally get to a point where I can't manage to keep my eyes open. I fall asleep seconds after closing my eyes, and have a dreamless slumber.
Nico's POV
I look over at the clock, which reads "2:03am" in big, red letters. I slap my hand over my face and sigh, mad at myself for not falling asleep. With a night like this, I'll probably pass out from exhaustion right as the Games begin.
"Fall asleep, Nico," I whisper-yell to myself. I wonder if Thalia's having the same problem, or is already fast asleep. I wonder what Percy and Annabeth are doing right now. It's two in the morning, Nico. They're sleeping.
"Ughh."
After stuffing my face into my pillow, I finally manage to fall asleep. Fortunately enough, I don't wake up for the rest of the night.
Thalia's POV
"Annabeth!"
I scream as I watch a tribute stab Annabeth in the stomach with a long, sharp knife. The tribute digs the knife in deeper, twisting it at a painful angle. Annabeth cries out, staring at me with a look of terror and pain. She mouths my name before slumping to the ground, dead. The tribute retrieves his knife and turns around, looking at me with familiar blue eyes.
"Luke," I whisper quietly, disbelievingly.
Luke smiles evilly, "Did you miss me?" Luke approaches me and hovers over me.
"Annabeth…"
"Is dead," Luke finishes, looking down at me with an evilly satisfied look on his face.
Before I have a chance to think about what I'm doing, I grab Luke's knife from his hand and stab him in the shoulder.
"You bitch!" Luke screams, holding his shoulder in pain.
Realizing what I had done, I look down at my bloody knife in shock. "Luke…"
"Give me the knife, Thalia," Luke says between gritted teeth.
I look from Luke to the knife in my hand, then back to Luke.
"No," I reply sternly, approaching Luke slowly.
He staggers back, but I'm faster. I stab Luke in the chest, and, hopefully, in the heart. Luke screams and drops to his knees. He looks at me with a betrayed look before falling on his side.
I wake up suddenly, breathing heavily, sweat sticking to my forehead. Realizing it was only a nightmare, I breathe in a sigh of relief. Putting my hand over my heart, I feel my heart pounding painfully fast in my chest.
Looking over at the clock on my bedroom wall, I can tell that it's a little past six thirty in the morning. Knowing that I won't be falling asleep again anytime soon, I groggily head into the shower to get ready for today.
Sorry for the short chapter. I made this chapter to show what Annabeth, Nico, Thalia, and Percy were feeling before the arena. I'm going to start the next chapter after I upload this one. The next chapter is going to be set in the arena, I'm not going to write some sort of chapter to put off writing about the arena. Thanks to everyone who stayed throughout the entire story! There are most likely going to be a lot more chapters. You will eventually find out why Finnick is dangerous, and no, he is not a demigod. I'm going to start updating a lot more often, just as I have been trying to recently, so expect like 2 or 3 chapters every few days or so. I'm not going to give any sort of schedule, because I can't stick to schedules or routines. Thanks guys!
