Nico's POV

"Annabeth, what do you-?" I stop in the middle of my question as I turn around and realize that Annabeth isn't with me.

"Annabeth?!" I worriedly call out Annabeth's name, running back the way I came from, hoping that I'd run into her.

I hear a cannon in the distance, which Annabeth told me meant that a tribute had died.

My heart beating rapidly in my chest, I push leaves and branches out of my face as I try desperately to find Annabeth. She can't be dead. She can't be.

"Annabeth!" I scream to the top of my lungs as doubts begin to cloud my vision. I lose my footing and tumble down the side of a hill. I quickly get up and look around. Everything becoming suddenly overwhelming, I lean on a tree for support. I was never really close to Annabeth, but that doesn't I didn't care what happened to her. What would Percy do if he found out?

After a while, I look around and realize that I'm not only alone, I'm lost as well. This is get better and better, isn't it? As the sun begins to set, I remember something Annabeth told me about nights in the arena.

"The fallen tributes' pictures appear every night in the arena," She had said, pointing to a picture in the book. A young boy's picture was there, with his district number under it.

And just as Annabeth had said, the sky becomes dark and music begins to play. The first picture is of a boy from District 3. The next is… the District 7 female tribute. So Annabeth's alive. Relief fills my thoughts as I realize there's still hope to find Annabeth.

Pushing off the tree, I climb up from the hill I fell down from and begin to look for Annabeth again. I don't call out her name, just because I know that other tributes could hear me.

My search is short lived, though, as I bump into a tall figure and fall back. Another figure, smaller than the first, turns around and looks at me, her blue eyes curious.

"Nico?" Thalia asks, surprised by my entrance.

The first figure turns around and looks at me, and I can tell that it's Percy. There's a long cut on his cheek, but it doesn't seem to be bleeding. By looking at his expression, I can tell that he had hoped Annabeth would be with me.

"Where's Annabeth?" Percy asked, his voice full of concern. His gives me a hand up, looking at me frantically for an answer.

"I… she was with me… but-."

"But what?" Percy interrupts. "Where did she go, Nico?"

"I don't know… We were trying to find you and the others, but somewhere along the way, I lost her. I tried to find her, but I couldn't find her anywhere." Looking down at my feet, I begin to feel guilty. Now Percy has another thing on his list of things to worry about. I should've known that Annabeth was gone when she was silent for a long time.

Percy puts his hands behind his head and sighs, "Great. Just great."

Thalia puts her hand on Percy's shoulder, "We'll find her and Katniss and everyone else we need to find."

Percy shakes her hand off, "Let's go. We don't have any time to waste."

"Do you guys have any water?" I ask, suddenly thirsty. "I've been running all day…"

Percy nods, "Yeah. I could tell where water was when we were brought here."

Percy hands me a jar filled with water, and turns away. I appreciatively take a drink, realizing how much energy it took trying to find Annabeth. I wonder what would've happened to me if the tributes I ran into weren't Percy and Thalia. I guess the answer is pretty obvious.

Another cannon sounds in the distance, and it visibly disturbs Percy. It's unthinkable what he must be going through, losing someone he loves. I felt the pain when I lost Bianca, but even that pain doesn't hurt as much as it used to.

Percy turns to us, "We'll have to wait to find Annabeth. I know her enough to know that she would've wanted us to look for Katniss and Peeta rather than look for her."

"Are you sure, Percy?" Thalia asks, looking at the son of Poseidon warily. I wonder how hard it was for Percy to make that decision.

"Yes, I'm sure," Percy replies, and begins to walk away. Thalia and I follow him, but give him his space to think.

Thalia looks over at me, "Don't mind him, he's been like this since the Games began. He's scared that one of these cannons are going to be for Annabeth. I keep reminding that Annabeth is strong, but it just in one ear and out the other for him."

I nod, but don't reply. Hopefully we'll run into Annabeth during our search for Katniss and Peeta, but I don't know high our chances are.

Annabeth's POV

What did I find so important that I had to separate from Nico for it? Oh yeah, a damn bird. I thought that, just maybe, I could kill it for food, but I forgot to tell Nico what I was doing. He wouldn't have heard me make any sudden moves, because, obviously, I had to be quiet. Why was I so stupid? So here I am, stuck in the middle of woods at night, in an arena where the majority of the people here are out to kill me. Oh, and did I mention that I'm lost?

Hopefully Percy isn't looking for me- oh my gods, Percy. He must be worried sick about me. Hopefully he found Nico, who probably realized I was gone not too long ago. And on top of all that, I'm growing hungrier and thirstier. Maybe I'll encounter an animal soon, but with my luck, I'm not too optimistic. Come on, Annabeth, you can't be a pessimist.

With a surge of energy, I begin to trudge forward, determined to survive.
