Thalia's POV
"I think I see it just up ahead," I say, narrowing my eyes, trying to see if I actually see the Cornucopia or my eyes are just messing with me. I hope they aren't, because that would suck. My legs are tired from walking and my stomach is growling from hunger.
After a second, Katniss says, "Yeah, that's it. I don't see any tributes, but I know they're there. They're probably in the tree line, like us."
As we get closer, I can see a table with bags labeled with a District number in front of the Cornucopia. They're small, no bigger than a regular sized book, but they look like a gift from the gods. I see the District Eleven bag close to the edge of the table, the District Twelve bag being on the edge, and I can only hope that there's medicine inside.
Out of nowhere, a cannon sounds in the distance, announcing another tributes' death. Almost half of the tributes are gone now, their lives ended by others. I know that more tributes are going to die before my time in the 'Games ends, but I continue to hope that the killing stops. I feel like if I stay here, in the arena, any longer, what's left of my sanity is going to crack. If it hasn't already.
"Tributes are fighting already?" Katniss says, hidden behind a tree, her head poking out to try to get a better look. "I didn't think it'd start this early. The sun hasn't even risen yet."
No one says anything, but I know we're all thinking the same thing. This isn't going to be easy.
"Do we wait?" Percy asks, looking back at us, an anxious and nervous expression on his face. He doesn't look scared, no, Percy wouldn't be scared by this. He looks like he just doesn't know what to do. I bet I look the same way. I've never seen anything like this, like the Hunger Games. I feel like everything's changed, like everything I knew before doesn't matter now. Here, we're fighting people, not monsters.
Katniss shakes her head, "No, if we wait, we'll miss our chance to get the bags. Oh, about the bags. Only grab your District's bag. If we grab a bag that isn't ours, the tributes whose bag we took will come after us, and it's best to avoid that. Our main priority is getting medicine for Nico. The medicine will probably be in the District Eleven bag, because that's Nico District. So Thalia, make sure to just get the bag and run back. Don't take any detours."
I nod, "Okay."
Annabeth, who hasn't spoken yet, says, "We should probably get ready to run out there. Do you all have your weapons?" We all nod. Percy grips his sword, his now-determined expression reflecting on the blade of his sword. Katniss readies her bow confidently, one hand on an arrow, ready to shoot. Annabeth holds her dagger brilliantly ad unwaveringly, a fierce look in her eye. I hold my dagger, trying to stay calm and focused, my only goal being to get Nico medicine.
Annabeth suddenly turns to Percy and kisses him, her arms around his neck. When she pulls away after a second, she hugs him and says, "Be careful, Seaweed Brain."
"I know. The same goes for you too, Wise Girl," Percy replies, rubbing her hair. "Come on, we have to go now."
Annabeth nods and turns back to the Cornucopia. No one has come out of the forest yet, but it won't be long before someone makes a move. Now is our chance.
"Two people should go out first, to draw the others out. Then while everyone's busy fighting, Thalia can run out, while someone follows her and keeps other tributes away from her," Katniss suggests.
Percy nods, "Okay. Annabeth and I could run out first, while you defend Thalia?"
"Sounds good," Katniss says, standing up. "We should go now."
Percy and Annabeth stand up and run out of the protection of the tree line, staying close to each other. When they stop, they face away from each other, getting ready to fight back to back like they always have.
A tribute runs out from the forest and charges them, a spear in hand. He throws it, the blade of his spear covered in the now-dried blood of another tribute. He would've hit Annabeth, had she not quickly dodged it. Percy picks up the spear, which has lodged itself in the ground, and throws it back at the boy. It hits him in the chest and the boy falls to his knees and then to the ground, dead. A cannon sounds in the distance, marking the boy's death.
Everything is silent for a moment, until two tributes, a boy and a girl, slowly walk out of the forest. They don't try to fight, nor do they make any indication that they want to. The boy, who is on the left, says, "We don't want to cause harm. We just want our bags. Let us go and we won't kill you."
Annabeth is about to reply, but Percy speaks up first, "Okay, fine. Get your bags and leave." I almost want to scream when he says that, because he's so stupid. Why would Percy trust him, after they threatened him and Annabeth with death?
The two tributes walk to the Cornucopia and reach for their bags. But instead of taking the bags, they both pull out a knife and turn on Percy and Annabeth. The girl slashes at Annabeth, but she avoids the strike and kicks the girl in the stomach, who falls to the ground with a thump. She quickly gets back up, slashing at Annabeth again. Annabeth moves out of the way, but the knife cuts her arm, leaving a shallow cut.
At the same time, the boy charges Percy, swinging his knife around rapidly, looking like he just hopes one hits the target. Percy just continues to dodge the attacks easily. He swings his sword at the boy's chest, but his attack is dodged. He swings again at his chest and hits his target, who falls to the ground, dying after a moment. Another cannon sounds.
Annabeth knees the girl in the stomach and, while the girl was distracted, brings her dagger down and delivers the final blow. I could tell that it visibly disturbed Annabeth, who looked like she wanted to throw up, but she didn't give up. She looks toward where Katniss and I were hiding, motioning for us to come out. Katniss goes out first, me following after her, quickly running to the Cornucopia. Just before we get there, a girl runs out from inside the large structure, grabbing a bag and quickly running into the forest, before any of us even had a chance to process what was going on.
We don't risk losing our chance to get supplies by going after her, so we just continue on. When we finally reach the table, I grab the District Eleven bag, Katniss grabs the District Twelve one, and Percy grabs the District Four one. We run back the way we came, hoping nobody follows us.
Wow, I can't even believe that there are already 33 chapters to this story. That's awesome! I don't know how many more there are left, but the maximum right now is 8 to 10 chapters. I'm hoping to make a sequel for this, because I really enjoy writing this story (and I hope you guys enjoy reading it!) and I really like the Percy Jackson/Hunger Games crossover. If I do make a sequel, which will be based on Catching Fire, I'll probably start writing it a week or two after the last chapter of this story. Would you guys want a sequel to this story?
