Thalia's POV

"Katniss?" I ask, following Luke's gaze slowly, feeling like I want to throw up. And there she was, Katniss Everdeen, a bow in hand and an arrow pointed at Luke's heart, standing a few yards away from us, a scarily calm look in her eye. I wanted to scream, to tell her to run, but I was frozen in place, frozen by fear.

She ignores me, staring straight at Luke, "Drop your sword." Her hand doesn't waver, and her finger holds an arrow back. Something at the back of my mind screams for her to let go, to let the arrow fly.

Luke smiles evilly, "But that's no fun, is it?"

"Drop it," Katniss says, pulling the string back a little. She stares directly at Luke, almost like she's challenging him to do something.

I watch as Luke's smile fades and he lowers his sword to the ground, slowly. He has a bored look in his eye. No, not bored, but almost waiting. Like he knows something that everyone else doesn't. "Happy, girl on fire?"

"Very funny. Step away from Thalia." Katniss moves her bow to always be directed at Luke's heart as he slowly steps away from me. He looks over at me for second, and winks.

All of a sudden, Luke pulls a throwing knife out from behind his backing, throwing it quickly at Katniss, not even giving her a second to dodge it.

Instead of hitting Katniss' head, it hits the tree behind her. It embeds itself there, making a thump noise. Percy stood up first, helping Katniss up after. He looks at Luke, almost like he was disappointed, "You know, if you want to hit someone, you shouldn't make such a big scene of slowly inching your hand toward your back. Totally gave you away, dude."

Luke growls and starts to reach for another knife. I suddenly jolt back into reality, and tackle him. I fall on top of him, and he laughs, his breath on my face. His laugh hasn't changed, and I want to believe neither has he. But I know he has.

Luke notices my hesitation, "Ah, not over me? You guys just never learn." He flips me over, his knee on my stomach pinning me down, and puts a throwing knife to my neck. He looks over at Katniss, who has another arrow pointed at him, "Looks like we're back at square one. C'mon, girl on fire, it doesn't have to be like this."

Percy talks before Katniss can, "Shut up, Luke. You did this to yourself. Let Thalia go."

"Why would you think I would just do as I'm told? What's so fun about that?" Luke fakes a pout, but then grins a minute later, "I'm not afraid of you."

"This isn't a game, Luke!" Percy shouts, edging towards him slowly. He doesn't get to close, so that Luke doesn't kill me. As the two continue to argue, I look toward the back of Luke's pants, where he hid his throwing knives. They're only a foot or so away…

"I'm warning you, make one move and I'll kill you," Percy says, his words threatening. He looks down at me, and he only becomes angrier, "I'm not going to let you kill my friend."

"Really? Well, please, enlighten me with your plan. I'd just love to hear it," Luke says, raising in eyebrow, obviously enjoying the situation.

Before Percy gets the chance to reply, I grab one of Luke's throwing knives and drive it into his shoulder. I pull it down, so he can't use the arm that held a throwing knife to my neck. He screams in pain, using his other hand to hold his shoulder. I sit up, and, with the same knife, stab him in the back.

He lays on the ground, squirming in pain. He looks at me, his eyes full of hate. His voice is ragged as he says, "So, are you happy you've killed me? Do you feel relieved?" Before he can says anything else, Katniss shoots him with an arrow, delivering the final blow.

I sit back, putting my hand over my mouth, my eyes wide with horror. I realize a second later that my hand is covered in Luke's blood. I scream, quickly moving my hand away as far as it can go. I stare at it, and suddenly feel like crying. And so I do, crying loudly as Percy and Katniss stand kneel beside me. But I don't care, I just cry.

After I somewhat compose myself, Percy and I go and gather the rest of the ingredients, after Katniss returns to the group to tell them what happened. We don't talk, partly because we're too shocked by what happened to say anything, and partly because if I opened my mouth, I'd start crying again.

It doesn't take us long to get everything else on the list, and so we have to go back to the group. I stop, just needing a second before I have to go back and face everyone.

Percy turns to me, stopping, too, "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, I just… give me a second," I say, staring at the ground.

"Oh, okay. Sure. Are you afraid to go back?"

"What is everyone going to say? What is Annabeth going to say? She's going to hate me."

"What? No she won't. Annabeth knew this was going to happen. We've all known from the start. Nobody is going to get mad at you for doing what we had all been expecting to do. Yeah, Annabeth will be sad, but that's obvious. It's just how you were sad Luke died. She would never get mad at you for doing what you needed to."

"Oh. I guess you're right. It's just…. What if Annabeth takes her sadness and turns it into sadness toward me?"

"She would never do that, Thalia. Annabeth's not like that."

"Yeah, I know. I'm just being stupid. Let's head back now."

"Alright."
