Epilogue
Percy's POV
After a short moment of weightlessness as I travelled through the portal, I was suddenly back home. I noticed after a second that we were at the entrance of camp. Everything around me was familiar- hell, even the grass was familiar. The sun was starting to set, and it looked like dinnertime was soon. Like every other day, campers were sword fighting, satyrs were playing music in the strawberry fields, and Clarisse was scaring a group of younger campers. Yup, everything seemed to be normal at Camp Half Blood. Besides the fact that I just came from the future along with my friends, I just escaped a death arena, and a centaur who used to be my Yancy Academy teacher was running at me with all four of his legs like I was in trouble. Well, that last part might not be so odd. Oh, well.
"Percy! Annabeth! Nico, Thalia! You're back, and you're not dead!" Chiron cheered loudly. He came to a stop in front of us, and hugged each of us in turn.
Once I backed away, laughing, I said, "It's always nice to be reminded that I'm not dead."
Annabeth took my hand and laughed, too. "It's really nice to be back. I can't wait to beat Seaweed Brain in some more duels later."
Nico shook his head, and grinned, "You guys have fun with that. I'm going to bed."
He tried to walk off, but Thalia grabbed his collar and pulled him back. "Oh, no you don't," She said, smirking evilly, "First, you're going to the infirmary for your leg. After that, you're going to help me practice my aim down at the target practice. It's an honor to be my target." She ignored Nico's protests of "nooo" and "save meee" and began to drag him away.
Chiron raised an eyebrow, "It seems like you are all in good moods. I'm glad to hear that, I thought maybe...," He trailed off, as if he decided that it was a better idea to not bring anything up. He starts talking a second later, "The other campers can't wait to see you. Dinnertime is starting in about 30 minutes, so you came just in time. We'll announce your arrival there. Glad to have you back!" And with that, Chiron trots off toward the Dining Pavilion.
After Chiron was out of earshot, Annabeth turned to me and sighed, "I can't believe we really did all of that."
"All of what?" I ask, turning to her. I know she was talking about the arena, but I didn't know what to say to make her feel better. I feel the same way she does. Even if it all happened just minutes before, it feels like a dream- no, not a dream, a nightmare. I've been through a lot since I found out that I was a demigod, but none of that could have prepared me for what I went through. It wasn't just me though, my friends were all with me, going through the same thing I was. I can't be selfish and think about my own feelings.
"To be honest, I can't, either," I say, staring down at our interlocked hands for a second, and then at Annabeth. "But that doesn't mean it didn't happen. We can't change that. Though that may be a little weird, considering that we changed the future… Okay, not helping. The point is, all we can do is continue living our lives looking forward, not backwards. The past is not who we are. The past is who we were, today is who we are, and tomorrow is who will be. I know this is cliché, but leave the past behind and think about the present. That's what I've been doing, and I hope it's been working. If not, then I don't know anymore."
Annabeth raised an eyebrow, a smirk on her face. "That's Seaweed Brain's attempt at an inspirational speech?"
I laughed, nodding, "Hey, I tried. It's probably better than one Clarisse would make." I tried to make my voice sound like an angry Clarisse, even though it seemed like she was always angry, and grumbled, "'You're all stupid! Who cares! I could do so much more than you can in a lifetime with only my pinkie!'"
Annabeth grinned, "That's true. But you're right. I can't let the past interfere with my future. It won't get me anywhere. The only thing to do now is just move forward, though that may be easier said than done. Either way, I'm going to go to my cabin so that I clean up. It's been a while since I showered."
"Sure. See you at dinner." I waved goodbye to Annabeth and watched as she walked to her cabin. Once I couldn't see her anymore, I sighed and sat down on the grass. Even though it was only a few years ago, it feels like it's been a lifetime since I arrived at Camp Half Blood. Sometimes, I can hardly remember what it was like when I knew nothing about the gods being alive or demigods or anything like that. They were only things I learned about in school. I never imagined that they were actually real. But now, my entire life was molded by their existence. Weird.
I only sit there for another 10 minutes, before I realize that dinner already started. Groaning, I stand up and brush dirt off my pants. I begin to run toward the pavilion, suddenly very hungry. The arena doesn't exactly give you luxury meals, so all I want right now is a blue soda and some pizza.
Jason's POV (WHATTT)
"Today we welcome back Annabeth Chase, Nico Di Angelo, Thalia Grace, and-," Chiron began, holding up a glass of soda. He's interrupted by the sound of panting and squeaky shoes.
"I'm here, I'm here," Percy says between breaths. He's bent over, his hands on his knees. He straightens up after a minute, and says, "I, uhm, there were these flowers and I got distracted and then this monster appeared and I killed it and then some girl came over and was like 'oh Percy you're amazing' and I was like 'yes, I know' and then we laughed and I realized I was late and so now I'm here."
Leo turned to me from my left, "That's probably the longest sentence I've ever heard." I nodded.
I heard Annabeth sigh and rub her forehead, "I feel like a monster appearing inside the walls is more likely than a girl calling you amazing, Percy. I'll let you decipher the meaning."
Percy pouted, "Hey! You think I'm amazing."
"Not true. Sit down."
"Yes, ma'am."
Chiron cleared his throat, "Okay, then… As I was saying, let us welcome back Annabeth Chase, Nico Di Angelo, Thalia Grace, and Percy Jackson, who just made a very… interesting arrival. They bravely stood up to the dangerous task of going into the future to save Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark and completed their mission impressively. More importantly, they all came back safe. This toast is in honor of that!" Chiron raised his glass into the air, and cheers erupted from the campers, who also raised their glasses.
From the corner of my eye, I saw Thalia and Nico hold hands under the table and try to look normal, while Annabeth glared at a cowering Percy. After a moment, the son of Poseidon stole a kiss from the daughter of Athena, who blushed.
On my right, Piper sighed. "As happy as I am for their safety, I can't help but wonder what they went through… I don't know what I do if I was in their position… I don't even know if I would make it out. I wonder if that's how they felt."
I bumped shoulders with her. "Come on, don't be like that. You're never going to have to experience what they had to. I know how you feel, but we should just be glad that they're okay now."
Leo nodded, leaning forward so that he could talk to Piper. "What's the point in wondering? You're safe here. Don't stress over something that isn't ever going to happen. It'll only bring you down. So cheer up! If you want, I could show you around my workshop. It's pretty cool and there. I can levers and screws and-."
"No thanks," Piper laughed. She nodded, "You're right. I was just being stupid. Come on, let's celebrate."
Well, that's the end! Or is it? =u= I hope you guys stick around for the sequel! I'm not sure when I'll be starting it, it'll probably be in a few weeks. At the moment, I'm drowning in school work ;u;. But I'm really excited to start writing, so I'll make timeee. I can't believe that after a year this story is finally coming to a close ;o. But I'll be back (terminator voice yo). See you then!
