First Chess Game:

[Nate POV]

Hiding was as I was expecting, and the one word to describe it was bland yet interesting . That book made physics research text from 1985 look like fantasy adventure genre books. The author Alan D. Baddaley was one of the most boring people I had the displeasure of reading a book written from. It truly was the most basic of occlumency, it described that the best defense was to never look into the eyes of an legilimens if unfortunately you have already looked into his eyes then is when your mastery of the mind arts truly comes into practise and tested, but he made it a point that the occlument is always at an inherent advantage against a legilimence during the first probe but more often than not legiliments are more proficient in the art due to there frequent use of the mind arts and the most basic occlumency technique that can even be used by new practitioners of the mind arts is simply what the title of the book suggests hide away your mind from the coming legilimency probe in the metaphysical world then in the waking world you immediately break eye contact with the legilimence. And while this may sound easy, any legilimence worth their trade would find a new practitionering in the matter of a fraction of a second faster than the person in front of them could blink. And that is if the practitioner is being legilimenced with a gentle approach so as to not damage their mind or alert them, a proficient legilimence with brutal methods and sufficient time will get a secret from the greatest occlumence of all time if the legilimence is fine with destroying the mind of the occlumency practitioner which is a truly horrifying thing to do while the occlumence could simply erase the secret from his mind, they would still lose their mind. The author also had stated that legilimency was utilized by mind healers and was quite important but its responsible use is the first thing responsible master of mind arts should work on teaching to their pupils and how horrifying the consequences of not teaching the moral obligations of legilimency to a young adult could do, and to never under any circumstance teach it to anyone below 17 years of age because it is not a childish branch of magic similarly to alchemy and accidents caused are more often than not irreversible for the victims. Then the book went on to describe a few examples mind arts related accidents and finally ended with common problems and questions most new practitioners have.

Horrors on magic though was eye-opening to me, it really put into perspective how truly horrifying being in the magical side of things could be. One of the experiences in the book was that of an auror from France one day returning to his home and when he exiting the floo, he saw the dead bodies of all the imperius curse victim teenagers he had killed during the wizarding world war staring at him with blank eyes and asking him in a child's voice,"Was it worth it?"

The creature responsible for this was a bogart.

The common wardrobe pest in the magical world that even teenagers can deal with.

The auror committed suicide via overdosing on the draught of living death a few days later and the suicide note had read,"The question those children asked me. Was it worth it? Yes it was. Would I do it again? Someone had to step up against Grindlewald and so I would do it all again. But it also is true that I am so tired…..and I never became an auror to kill children. To Annie- You are an incredible woman, I hope you have a happy life. Théo- I took you as an apprentice and you have grown into someone to take pride in. Goodbye."

The fact that a bogart can cause such damage is not something most would think. The magical world has a certain way to show people the ugliness they want to hide-behind all the facades, under all the lies and piercing all the deflections, this world reveals to one the truth which more often than not most people hate to hear.

After reading these books, I was sure Horrors Of Magic was written as a cautionary book for a more mature audience, just like Tales Of Beedle The Bard for children. Grandfather was really doing a good job of helping me develop into a realist.

Later in William's Study:

[William POV]

As I waited in the room, waiting for my grandson sitting on my armchair with my very custom-made chess set sat on the table which I will finally get to play with, I think about the boy who I will play against, he is a rude and arrogant boy like most children are when they perform good and get praised for it. Today I have to humble the boy which so that he does not get too conceited in his own power like those posh little shits in Wizegamot.

[TPP]

Nate knocked on the door.

*Knock*Knock*Knock*

"Come in."

"Evening Grandfather."

"Good evening to you too, rude-boy. You are suprisingly on time."

"I am."

"SO! Did you finish the books I gave you?"

"Yes. I did!"

"Well I am waiting for your opinion? And questions? And did you do the exercises on Hiding?"

"Calm Down! And yes I did the exercises, Hiding was satisfactory for the mind arts introduction book and no, I don't have any questions about the very basic and easy-to-read Occlumency book."

"And what about Horrors Of Magic?"

"That book is not something a child at the age of 7 should be allowed to read. While yes informative about the subtle ways you can anticipate magical catastrophes, it is more a disaster guide than a book. It would actually even be traumatizing for 16 years olds. That is not something a child should be reading"

"So the message of the book was well received, good."

"So, I have read the rules of chess. Let's get down to playing."

I moved the white pawn to E4

"Chess is not just about knowing how the pieces move."

He moved black pawn to C5

"I know, for the best players at one point, it becomes intuitive. And Grandfather please! Stop your wise wizard gig. I am not a complete moron as you have already concluded from our talks."

Knight was moved to Nc3 by me.

"I know you are not stupid and that is the whole reason I treat you like a glass statue! I don't want you to hurt yourself or others because of your vanity or some petty reasons."

Knight was moved to Nc6 by him.

"You think I am like VOLDERMORT!" Nate whispered realization hitting him.

I moved Bishop to Bb5.

"You have the raw potential to become like Voldermort and exceed what he was. And don't say his name." admitted William quite easily.

"I am not afraid of him! And you say his name too." Nate accused looking outraged.

"I say his name because I can fight him and have a chance of killing him, no matter how minuscule. The day you can do that, you can call me by my name. Do not mix confidence with blind arrogance Rude-boy. " stated William with something akin to steel in his voice and play.

That shut Nate up.

After 12 more minutes of playing, William won the game.

He quite smugly stated,"Looks like you cannot get intuition by reading alone."

"Haha! I challenged a seven year old and won, praise me! Why do you not?!"

ONE SMACK LATER*

"Rude-boy, you do remember that this was supposed to be your occlumency training right? "

"Oh." Color drained from Nate's little pink cheeks.

"Yes, Oh. I was only legilimencing you for feelings you were experiencing. If I was a real legilimence your deepest secrets could have been revealed and you wouldn't have known anything. Don't lose focus of your occlumency, it could be your deepest regret or even your last regret. Stay focused on hiding from me during our games, only then will you see true progress. And practice regularly. Stagnation will lead to ruin. " WIlliam warned his grandson.

"Okay! And thank you for not reading my thoughts."

William's eyes softened at that.

"I don't like doing things like this by choice you know. I do it for your own good."

"Never change Grandfather."
