Progress Pt.2-

[Grey Manor, Scotland.]

[August, 1989.]

[Nate's POV]

After the mess caused by my outburst at my birthday last year, grandfather had apologized to me and grandma had hugged me while saying she was sorry. Mum had just bonked me on the head and said that I should have told them that I was upset with grandfather about such a thing and then apologized for not realizing that I was struggling. Dad had just kept his hand wrapped around me and told me that I was a good boy and then presented me with a computer and I was absolutely thrilled with it. Knowing that I was also born at the time near the birth of the internet was another great opportunity. Since with the information in my head I was pretty clear that Wizards were not going to stay completely hidden I was going to integrate myself into the non-magical side after I turned 18.

Things had changed drastically after my birthday last year as well. My grandfather had started actively suggesting pieces of magic during our daily chess games where he had also started loosing unlike how before he could get past my defenses. Grandma had started taking me out on her own business trips and introduced me to different people including her information broker. Dad started playing football with me while mum taught me about quidditch. Although I knew both games I still played with both of them once a week to spend time with them.

While my magical strength had plateaued, my versatility had increased.

After getting my wand I had started practising charms. But unlike most people I had learned charms that I liked instead of going for everything, I never learned any elemental charms because while more efficient they would have taken more time to learn which would have been a waste. I learned the Expecto Patronum because I was pretty sure, I was going to tangle with dementors at one point or another. My patronus was a polar bear. I had perfected it to the point of producing a pulsing wave of white light if needed which was a surprise because it was a charm that uses emotions, something I can't use magic for well.

I had learned space expansion charms, shield charms, diagnostic charms, warding charms, architecture charms and dark charms.

I had learned enchantments. Successfully copied the enchantment on the sword of Gryffindor and the hat. To make something into a repository that can manifest something and store it without requiring physical space. I had created what I call the Tesseract, it was a cube the size of a 2-by-2 Rubik's cube.

The Tesseract was made out of silver which I got by melting sickles. It had runes on five of its surfaces to prevent from tampering with it, to make it lighter, to make it impossible to summon, to prevent vanishing, transfiguration, burning, freezing, melting; At the top face was a blank rune enchanted with a shrinking and engorgement charm when the rune was pressed the cube would change from the size of sugar cube to its original size. The rune-free surface had a keyhole. Unlike how the hat was intelligent and could judge the person for the sword the Tesseract was not. And growing an artificial intelligence took time which was not worth it. I linked a key to the cube to determine the actions it took. Whoever held the key owned the cube. Unlike the hat which was made to hold only the sword, I had enchanted the cube to hold 49 items.

These items were my enchanted weaponry. I had bought steel rods, sharpened one of the edges and started enchanting them. Some I had used as the foundation for warding charms. Some of them had runes placed on them that could be used to pierce magical shields. Some I had enchanted to act as a lightning rod to draw lightning to itself. Some were designed to move to intercept on my command. The cube also had a repairing enchantment used by chess board makers so that my weaponry would be reusable. Although repairing such weaponry would require me to hold the cube to supply magic for the repairing charm.

I had also increased the runes on my cloak along with adding enchantments. My cloak did not require vocal commands now but could follow my general intent. The enchantments added to it were self-cleaning, repairing, self-fitting . It could now blunt the damage a spell could cause. It would take at least two stunners to put me to sleep. I had added a runic cluster of healing on the cloak which would activate immediately if the illegal portkey charm was activated. The cloak would increase survivabilty in a sticky situation dramatically.

The progress in my illusions was good because now I could create temperature based illusions.

The control of my elemental spells had not changed much. But I had found better ways to use them. I could perfectly control Ignis Stellarum now. It was my favourite spell because of how beautiful it looked.

The only other remarkable feat I had achieved during this time was the ability to cast runes with a wand. It was something that no wizard had done in a long time. Because runes had fallen out of favour with the general public due to the presence of charms. It was a feat of magic that even Dumbledore and Voldemort had not achieved, most probably due to lack of trying but it was unique anyways. It allowed me to cast instant runes on objects instead of having to carve them, while simultaneously using my own magic to power them. It allows me to immediately push them to full power instead of them slowly gaining power by absorbing magic from the world. It would allow me to cast immediate wards that are as strong as the ones on Grey Manor on a smaller area immediately. It also erased my dependency of charms.

The growth in mind arts was disproportional since my legilimency was growing rapidly while occlumency had plateaued, grandfather had attributed my problem to my age. In his words I was competent in the mind arts and could easily launch my own legilimency probes against any enemy legilimence.

While I had grown in my fields of Magic beyond most people thrice my age in the last year I knew what I needed was combat experience. And the opportunity for combat had presented itself when an owl had brought my Hogwarts letter.

[A few days later]

[Nate's POV]

I was standing at the floo entrance in our living room as I waited for the guest I had been expecting to arrive. And arrive he did. An extremely old but tall man with a long white beard exited the floo. He was wearing bright green robes which had blurry crescent moons drawn on them.

He greeted me with a polite but kind tone," Mr. Grey."

"Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore?" I grinned up at him.

"Yes that is my name Mr. Grey" He sounded amused.

"Nice to meet you sir. Make yourself comfortable sir." I took the couch on which I usually sat on.

Dumbledore took the couch opposite "Mr. Grey, you asked for a meeting at your home, with me specifically, in regards to your schooling. I would have thought your family would be present." the man had a serious look on his face now.

"Well Headmaster, I would like to not take some of the compulsory subjects that are required at Hogwarts. As for my family, they had somethings to take care of. Worry not, I can assure you that I have the authority to make decisions regarding my schooling." Dumbledore's eyes furrowed at that.

"Mr. Grey that is something that has never been allowed, and to do so now would indicate favoritism."

"The subjects I do not wish to take are charms and transfiguration."

"Mr. Grey I can assure you both of these branches are incredibly important for a wizard you should not try to skive off of these subjects."

"Oh no Sir, I am fully aware of that. You see I had my wand last year sir and have been practising magic for 4 years now. I am quite proficient in runic magic, enchantments, mind arts, etc. I don't want to take transfiguration because I am pathetic at it, while I don't want to take charms because I am too good at those." Dumbledore frowned in thought as I told him my circumstances.

"How good are you at charms Mr. Grey?" his eyes twinkling as he said it now.

" Expecto Patronum" I intoned as my wand left my holster. A white beautiful polar bear left my wand filling me with hope and happiness.

"A corporeal patronus at the age of eleven?" Dumbledore said calmly, "Mr. Grey, you are a very strong wizard but that does not mean I will bend the rules regardless of your academic achievements."

"You can do that as a favour to me personally." I commented casually.

"What could you do for me for such a favour?" Dumbledore sounded amused again and I could see his eyes twinkling.

Nate began his prepared line,"I could not tell the whole world the name of the wand you wield." and as he saw Dumbledore's appalled look he grinned at the old man while still pointing his wand at Dumbledore which he had not stopped pointing after casting the patronus.
