The year may have started mild but for Elsie and Charlie the early weeks of 1926 might just prove a little chillier than they'd anticipated. There's his upcoming retirement, a poorly relative, and then the more mundane challenge of keeping away those winter blues. But surely they can rely on love to keep them warm, can't they?

He raises his head to look at the ambulance driver and freezes in shock, certain that he finally has snapped, that his mind could not take it anymore and went straight into hallucination. The driver is a woman, not an uncommon sight those days, but this particular woman has no business being here, in the middle of most literal hell. "Mary?" he rasps, disbelieving.

AU Chelsie follows them throughout 2018-19's Year of the Dog. Chapter titles feature dog idioms and otherwise wag the dog's tail while the story introduces Charles to Elsie thanks to their dogs and eventually where they belong: together. Headlined by Charles/Jim, Elsie/Phyllis mashups with a LONG list of DA characters in supporting roles, cameos. A sprinkling of M adds to the fun.

I've always been fascinated by the fandom theory that Edith Crawley is actually Lady Rosamund's illigitimate daughter. This is my take on that in my usual verbose, meandering style. Now Rated M, for Marriage (and the things married people do).
