SNOWED IN: Celebrity Murder Mystery Romance - A Hallmark Movie
Starring: Kurt Hummel, Blaine Anderson, Adam Lambert, Cooper Anderson, Harvey Fierstein, grand dame Angela Lansbury.
Kurt stretched as everyone took off their seatbelts and got ready to deplane. They'd landed at Boston's Logan Airport a few minutes before. Having been exhausted from work, Kurt had slept most of the plane ride. Relaxing was something he'd almost forgotten how to do with back-to-back projects lately.
He kneeled on the seat and took a look around. Wow, that man was stunning and seemed familiar in some way. However, sitting next to him…my God, that man looked like a Disney prince or an old time movie star.
Kurt looked away as the rows cleared. He needed to grab his stuff and get to the local plane to Bangor that was going to get him to his final destination, Cabot Cove, Maine, the fictional town from all those episodes of Murder, She Wrote.
It would be his home away from home for a few weeks while he got to live out an anniversary episode from the hit show and hopefully get some time to rest and relax afterwards. Kurt had always been a murder mystery dinner enthusiast and loved a good roleplay, but this experience was going to be next-level. He was a professional, but the fanboy in him was squealing in anticipation. He knew other celebrities would be participating in the show too, but he didn't know who.
As Kurt hurried to his gate, he saw several news segments on the concourse TVs heralding the advent of a big storm. He figured the northern town was used to snow storms and everything would be fine.
As he rushed along, two sets of eyes were watching him and the TV monitors.
"Squirt, hurry up! We've got to catch the rinky dink plane soon!" Cooper Anderson called after his brother, who had stopped to use the restroom. He watched the other passenger from their flight rushing by.
Blaine huffed, indignant. "Will you stop calling me that? I'm a grown man, and you know I hate when you do that."
"Alright, jeez. Someone didn't get enough sleep on the flight. What a grouch." Cooper winked as he pushed his brother down the concourse, following after Kurt.
Kurt had checked in and was a bit horror struck by the tiny plane he would be flying in. It was a ten-seater and would take him and some of the extras and other actors to Bangor. From there, they would get cabs and town cars to Cabot Cove.
He couldn't wait to meet one of his idols, Angela Lansbury. She had recently been given a lifetime achievement award for all her years on Broadway. What an amazing and talented woman. Meeting her was why he'd taken the role in the first place.
As they called the flight rows, Kurt saw several people in large sunglasses and hats and assumed they were some of the celebrities coming into town. He noticed the handsome man again with the other guy that looked so familiar still. Oh, well. He'd remember eventually.
As the plane prepared for taxiing the runway, they were shaken by several heavy gusts of wind that rocked the plane. It seemed like that storm was going to be something fierce. What Kurt didn't know was that theirs would be the last flight for a while, the snow beginning to fall heavily.
They hit a lot of turbulence, but managed to land on time at 6pm. Kurt was feeling wiped out from the rough flight after spending most of the day traveling. He grabbed his bags and exited to the sidewalk.
It was deathly quiet, and no one seemed to be around. Kurt saw one lone SUV-type cab and rushed towards it. Just as he reached for the door handle, two guys from his flight managed to arrive and realized they all had eyes on the same cab.
"That's our ride, buddy," the man, who still looked so familiar to Kurt said.
Kurt didn't care where he knew the guy from. He wasn't going to wait for another cab. "I think you're mistaken, and my name is Kurt, thank you very much!"
The dreamboat seemed to suddenly wake up listening to the two of them fight over the cab. "Calm down, everyone."
Kurt huffed at being told what to do. He gave the dreamboat his best death bitch glare.
The dreamboat gulped and took a step back. "Look, we're all tired, but there's plenty of room for all three of us in the cab. I'd assume we're all going to the same place anyway, considering you look like you stepped off the pages of a magazine," he said, giving a dazzling megawatt smile.
Kurt blushed and stammered, "Well, uh, thank you. I guess sharing is fine."
"Great! I'm Blaine, and that's my annoying brother, Cooper." Blaine smiled widely again.
"Hey, I'm not annoying, I'm an artiste!" Cooper snapped at them, waving his hands around pointing randomly at things.
Recognition hit Kurt when he took another look at Cooper. "Wait! You're the guy from the free credit report commercials. I knew you looked familiar!"
"Another fan! So nice to meet you, Cert."
"It's Kurt, not Cert."
With that, they got their luggage into the cab and settled in as quickly as they could. The snow had been coming down steadily for a while now and quickly accumulating.
As the cab drove carefully away from the airport, the other set of eyes that had been watching Kurt earlier came into focus. They belonged to a tall, stunning dark-haired man in makeup and big dark glasses. He headed to the car rental lot where his ride was waiting for him.
Blaine tried to be subtle as he watched Kurt. However, Kurt kept catching him, and he would look away blushing for a moment before daring another glance.
Cooper tried to ignore both of them. He usually loved his fans, but something about 'Cert' made him feel weird and kind of tingly inside. He didn't know what to make of it.
Their driver was coasting along in the snow when headlights suddenly filled the back window of the cab. The vehicle tailing them got closer and closer, the lights so bright they were blinding. The engine of the sports car rev as its driver switched gears and sped up.
Suddenly, the car swerved around and almost ran them off the two-lane road in its rush to get by. Their driver swerved and missed a snow drift by inches before slamming on the brakes.
Everyone was okay, but startled by the experience. They continued along the road moments later, and were relieved when they arrived at their B&B – Queen's Landing. They saw a sports car in the driveway and wondered if that was the speed demon who'd flown by them. The car wasn't covered by much snow, and the engine was definitely still warm. Kurt wanted to give that person a piece of his mind.
A bear of a man opened the front door and came over to help them with their bags. Kurt ended up paying for the driver as Cooper walked past like he couldn't be bothered, and Blaine seemed ready to fall asleep standing up.
Once they were inside and their jackets hung, Kurt realized the big bear of a man was another star for the production: Harvey Fierstein!
"Hello, boys," he said lasciviously. "Welcome to my B&B. Remember, clothing is optional here!"
Blaine jerked awake after hearing that. "What? Cooper, you didn't mention that when you booked."
"Oh, uh, I didn't read the brochure. I just figured staying with someone famous would up my coolness factor. Did you know he was in Mrs. Doubtfire?" Cooper said animatedly.
"Yes, I do know that, but I'm not prepared to see him naked every day that we're here."
Kurt chuckled, blushing furiously, while looking Blaine's tight body up and down. "He's just quoting some lines from a recent picture he was in."
"You boys are the last guests here for the next few weeks. My other guest arrived a little while ago. He's a famous singer. Never heard of him, Adam something, but he already checked in and went out. You'll meet him later."
Harvey brought them up to their rooms. Cooper and Blaine were on one side of the hall, and Kurt was on the other.
As they keyed into their rooms, Harvey spoke. "If any of you wanna fuck, just let me know. I'm downstairs. my bedroom is next to the kitchen." He winked, waved, and walked back down the stairs.
All three of the guys looked at each other, shaking their heads. Cooper stuck his tongue out at Kurt and slammed his door shut.
"What's his problem?" Kurt said.
"He's usually nicer to his fans—heck, to anyone breathing. He's probably just tired." Blaine smiled sheepishly at Kurt.
Kurt smiled and winked. "Let me know if you decide to walk around naked, I want a front row seat for that." He disappeared inside his room leaving Blaine with his jaw hanging open, stunned.
God, he couldn't believe he'd said that. Burt would tell him off for being that forward, Kurt thought as he put away his clothes and got ready to take a hot shower. He sent a quick text to his dad and Carole to let them know he arrived okay.
After his shower, Kurt decided to go downstairs for a snack and some tea to relax. He peeked into the kitchen, making sure no one was naked there, just to be safe. He hunted around in the cabinets until he found some cookies and tea bags and then put the kettle on. A brunch was scheduled for tomorrow for introductions and planning for everyone involved in the production. He was so excited to meet Ms. Lansbury.
He jumped when someone snuck up behind him and tapped him on the shoulder.
"Hey cutie, I could make you tea or get you something to nibble on." Harvey smirked.
"Oh, no, I'm fine. Just making some tea. Wanna relax before getting an early night's sleep," Kurt said hastily. "Have you had stars stay here before? I mean, have they done anything like this in town before?"
"The producers have used our town before for things, but this is the first time we've hosted Angela Lansbury. It's the first time she's been willing to do anything with Murder, She Wrote since the movies ended. I'm excited to see her again. It's been a few years."
"You -you've met her before? What's she like in person? I'm a huge fan of hers and her work," Kurt stammered.
"She's a sweet lady. I was on an episode of the show when I was much younger. She's worked hard at her craft, and of course Murder, She Wrote was a fine-tuned machine with her family in charge. She doesn't go out as much at her age. This'll be so much fun and should really warm her heart," Harvey said.
As the tea kettle began to whistle, Cooper entered the kitchen.
"Hello - oh, it's you again, Cert." he frowned.
Kurt glared. "What exactly is your problem with me?"
"To be honest, I don't know. Something about you makes me feel funny and weird inside," Cooper explained slowly, uncomfortably.
"I've never even met you, and we're gonna have to work together to some extent. Can't we be civil?"
"Oh, I suppose you're right. Besides, my brother seems taken by you," Cooper teased, waggling his eyebrows.
"I'll bet your brother has lots of admirers. He looks like he came off a classic film lot," Kurt said, a bit dreamily.
Cooper burst out laughing. "Nah, I'm the heartthrob in our family. With me around, no one gives him a second look."
Kurt looked horrified. "That's terrible!"
"He's just starting out. I talked them into giving him a chance with this whole shebang. He's been more focused on music, and I told him he should branch out a bit, do something maybe he wasn't as comfortable with, let him be seen by others,"
Cooper kept stealing glances at Kurt, wondering why he made him feel weird. He wasn't into guys. Sure, he was attractive, but he'd never felt this way about anyone else. Shortly after finishing his tea, he headed up to bed. He wanted to be gorgeous for tomorrow and well rested. He wasn't sure why his last thoughts were of Kurt, some kind of déjà vu feeling.
While everyone slept, the snow piled up. A Nor'easter had settled in, leaving about twenty five inches of snow on the ground by morning.
In the morning, no one had checked outside yet, too busy getting in showers, fixing hair and a bit of makeup before the cast and crew brunch. Everyone settled into the kitchen with coffees, and they stared in wonder as Harvey opened the door to snow about chest high. "Looks like we got some of that snow they were forecasting last night."
"Some?" Blaine and Kurt said at the same time, looking at each other like Harvey was a crazy person.
"Oh, yeah, there are a couple of back-to-back storms due to come through here, this was just the first wave," Harvey said.
"Uh, it's going to be hard getting around in that, isn't it?" Kurt asked.
"The snow plows will come through. I'm sure the main road is already done, but luckily for all of us, it's only a couple miles to the brunch at Hill House Inn, where everything will be centered out of. That's where Angie is staying. That's why the production suggested you all stay at my B&B."
"Two miles…in the snow?" Cooper asked in shock. "How will I look my best after trudging through that? Squirt, you'll have to carry me." He sighed dramatically.
Kurt snickered.
"Laugh all you want, pretty boy. I don't think you'll look much better," Cooper snapped.
"Oh, he called me 'pretty boy'. That's a high compliment coming from the Cooper Anderson," Kurt teased.
"Ok, guys, let's settle down. We better put on our winter gear and get ready to go. I sure won't be carrying anyone out there," Blaine said as the voice of reason. He really wasn't sure why Cooper was being such a dick to Kurt.
"You boys don't need to worry. I have lots of firewood and food stocked in case we get snowed in," Harvey told them. "We might all need to cuddle together for warmth though." He was having a blast winding them up.
Everybody bundled up and headed outside. The wind was blowing hard, and they all felt their breath stolen as they walked along the edge of the road where some plowing had been done through the night. The sidewalks were packed high with snow from the roads. Thankfully, nothing had turned icy yet even though it was bitterly cold. After an hour and a half of walking through the piled up snow, they finally made it to Hill House Inn, which was fully plowed and seemed to have a fair amount of activity going on in spite of the weather.
They stomped the snow off at the entrance before going into the lobby.
"Howdy all," Harvey yelled.
"Harvey, you made it, and with some of our cast too. Come on in! Welcome."
Kurt and Cooper carefully took off their hats and rushed to the mirrors on the wall to see how bad the damage was, both sweaty from the trudge, pushing each other out of the way. Blaine had gelled his hair, so it hadn't moved much.
"Don't worry, guys, there are makeup and hair people here. They'll get you sorted out," someone said from behind the counter.
"You!"
Startled, Kurt spun around. He looked up at a man wearing makeup and eyeliner that made him look like a glitter rock vampire. "Adam Lambert?"
"Yeah, it's me. Why are you here?"
"Uh, I'm working. Why are you here?"
"Same. This time you didn't steal my role out from under me," Adam sneered.
Kurt sighed. "Are you still upset about that? 'Joy' was years ago, and I didn't steal the role from you. They decided I was a better fit and looked younger and more wholesome for the high school drama. Heck, the show pulled some of my real life issues and experiences as a teenager at McKinley, like I wanted to relive some of that horror."
Adam pouted. "Sure, they said I was too old, but I'm way more talented than you are.".
"Will you let it go? We've both had successful careers. Why is it still so important?" Kurt said, frustrated. That was his first professional job, and he had lucked into it really, after Rachel's show crashed and burned quickly. One of the producers was working on a new show and thought Kurt would be perfect for it.
Adam glared at Kurt. "It's the only thing I've been turned down for."
"Adam, that's amazing! You should be proud of that, not holding on to being angry at me. We didn't even know each other at the time."
Adam huffed and walked away, not willing to let it go.
Everyone was ushered out of the lobby and over to the main dining room for the event. There was tons of food on the sideboards, and some people had already helped themselves and were sitting at various tables eating.
They grabbed plates and loaded up on food, Cooper grudgingly agreeing to have Kurt sit with them. Blaine struck up an animated conversation with Kurt, both ignoring Cooper and Harvey.
Kurt was enjoying getting to know Blaine, and they seemed to have a fair amount of common interests. But he kept getting distracted by Angela Lansbury seated on the other side of the room.
Harvey finally took pity on him once he finished eating. "Would you like me to introduce you, kid?"
"Oh my gosh, yes please. I hope I can speak and not just squeak around her!" Kurt gushed.
Blaine smiled and laughed at Kurt.
Harvey draped his arm over Kurt's shoulders and guided him over to Angela.
Angela laughed. "Harvey! Your boy toys get younger every day. Why can't you find someone your own age to settle down with?"
Kurt blushed a deep red, and Harvey started laughing.
"Angie, don't be silly. This is Kurt Hummel. He's going to be in the show with you. I told him I'd introduce you. He's a bit starstruck by you."
"Hummel? Oh, you're going to be my sidekick for the show. I'm delighted to meet you," she said with a chuckle.
"Gosh, you are amazing! So talented. It's truly an honor to meet you, Ms. Lansbury." Kurt bowed.
"Goodness, you are precious. But we don't need to be so formal. We're both actors, and I look forward to working with you and getting to know you better. My family loved the series you were on, and I've heard great things about your performances on Broadway." Angela leaned over a bit and wrapped Kurt in a warm hug.
While they were chatting, the producer cleared his throat and gestured for everyone to quiet down. "This morning is informal so we can go over things and everyone can get to know each other. I appreciate you all making it here with the storm—storms, I guess. We'll have to work with mother nature as much as we can, but the forecast makes it seem like we'll have to stop and start production along the way. As you all know, we're doing a special anniversary episode of Murder, She Wrote to celebrate. Our star, the legendary Angela Lansbury, has graced us with her amazing talent for this production."
Everyone stood and applauded her. She slowly rose to her feet and bowed, blowing kisses to all in thanks.
"Now, we all know Angela is Jessica Fletcher, but who are the other members of our cast? Let me introduce Kurt Hummel. He's incredibly talented, and I'm excited to work with him. He'll be playing a student of Jessica's from New York who visits her for the holidays. His character's hugely fascinated with murder, and has his own murder podcast. He'll end up being her eyes and ears around town so Angela can have a lighter workload. The Watson to her Holmes, so to speak."
Someone spoke out, "or an angel to Angela's Charlie," causing everyone to chuckle and Kurt to blush.
"Next, Adam Lambert, this amazingly talented singer, is going to be our bad boy with a troubled past around town. He will perform a number at the local coffee house, which brings in Blaine Anderson, a newer actor and singer, who will be our coffee shop owner and potential love interest for Kurt. I hardly need to introduce Cooper Anderson, who will be playing our shady real estate hustler who tries to get the town council to zone a strip club and an exotic book store in a couple locations about town.
"Finally, our special guest celebrity, Harvey Fierstein, will be president of the town council who is being blackmailed by Cooper. We all know blackmail has a way of not turning out well for the blackmailer. We have some other surprises in store and special guests as the episode goes on."
They received their scripts with rehearsal times, character bios, and other pertinent information, and broke up to look over the material. Everyone was so excited to work with Angela that they had agreed without reading a script.
"Kurt, due to the weather issues, I'd like to get started with some of the interior filming with you and Angela. Can you look over your script and be ready in about an hour for makeup?"
"An hour? I - uh, of course. I'll do my best."
"Nonsense, we aren't expecting perfection. I want to get some of the scenes with you and Angela catching up and some of the parts as we go along the episode. We want you both to be comfortable with each other and seem like you have an existing relationship. We can't do much outdoor shooting with the snow as high as it is. We have wardrobe set up, so you can change in between."
Kurt spent the rest of the day with Angela working on their scenes together. She was a delightful performer, and they did their best, gradually settling into a rhythm. Everyone was more than happy to reshoot to get the right flavor. They got along well, and it almost felt like she was a mentor for him by the end of day's shooting.
While they had been filming, the rest of the cast was busy being fitted and running scenes in another area of the hotel. They pushed on as long as they could, but by 8pm Angela was worn out.
"I'm sorry, but I don't think I have the stamina to go on much longer."
"Oh gosh, look at the time. I'm so sorry, Angela, I got caught up in the scenes. We got a lot of good stuff today. I'll make sure you don't have such long days going forward."
Kurt took Angela's arm to help her to the elevator. "This was amazing. Thank you for working with me today."
She patted his hand. "It's my pleasure. It's always great to meet other talented performers. I hear you have a lovely singing voice too."
Kurt blushed as he walked her to her door. "Nothing to compare to yours, I'm sure. They said they would send up your dinner and tea shortly."
"Thank you for taking such great care of an old lady."
"Old lady, ha. You're timeless. I look forward to spending more time working with you. Sleep well." Kurt smiled, kissed her hand, and then set off toward the elevator to head back down to the lobby.
Blaine, Cooper, and Harvey were waiting for him there. They all got on their gear and trudged home again. It had been snowing steadily all day, so it was slow going, even with the roads having been plowed multiple times.
Once back at the B&B, Harvey put on a kettle for tea and turned on the TV. They were expecting continued snow and, unfortunately, freezing temperatures that night.
"The roads will be icy tomorrow then. We'll have to be very careful walking."
Cooper groaned. He was used to life in Los Angeles, so this cold was affecting him more than Kurt and Blaine who both had been mainly living in New York.
They all went up to change while Harvey made dinner. He had prepared several meals ahead of time for their stay knowing he'd be having long days too. He had lots of stews and soups, hearty fare for the hardworking actors of the show.
Kurt showered and changed and was sitting in the living room in front of the fireplace when Blaine came down.
"I guess if I'm going to be your potential love interest, I should get to know you more." Blaine winked as he sat down, gallantly kissing Kurt's hand.
"I'd love to know you better," Kurt said, blushing again.
By the time dinner was ready, they were already well on their way to being friends, finding out they had more and more similar interests and tastes.
Cooper joined them at the table and seemed to finally be thawing to Kurt, sharing stories of other sets he'd worked on. Harvey also joined them to eat, so it was a well-rounded evening.
Harvey cleaned up the dinner dishes with some help from Cooper, while Blaine and Kurt went back to the fireplace to discuss the script and their roles as potential lovers.
After the long day of work and still hungover from the previous day's travel, everyone headed off to bed early.
Blaine and Kurt locked eyes across the hall, their eyes seeming to say a thousand things.
Kurt boldly and impulsively crossed the hall and walked into Blaine's personal space. He brought a hand to Blaine's cheek and caressed his face for a moment before pressing in for a kiss.
He pulled back, breaking the kiss. "God, I've wanted to do that since I saw you on the plane,"
Both of them felt weak after the kiss, and they smiled at each other as they closed their doors for the night.
They both leaned against the inside of their doors, in slight shock and feeling a rush from the unexpected, yet wonderful kiss.
Blaine had no idea he'd meet a man out of his dreams during this production. He mostly came because Cooper had nagged him, and he needed a break and reset from New York. But he was glad he had given in.
The next couple days were much like the first, during which they did as much interior shooting as possible. It was winter in Maine in the episode too, so they were able to do some of the shooting around Hill House Inn. They had a fake façade for the coffee shop and some other sets. The production was paying extra for people to keep the snow manageable around the Inn and the sets. Unfortunately, it appeared their luck was going to run out. Another, larger storm was expected to hit that night. Everyone trudged home, extra careful to watch for icy patches on the way.
That night, Kurt woke up suddenly. He heard the wind howling outside, shaking his window. He wasn't sure what had woken him until he realized he was freezing cold.
He got up, pulled on his robe, and went downstairs to knock on Harvey's door.
"Harvey! Harvey?" He urgently banged on his door.
Harvey opened the door sleepily, fully naked. "Wha - what's the matter?"
Kurt blushed and immediately turned around. "It's freezing cold in my room. I'm not sure what's wrong."
Kurt's words seemed to jolt Harvey awake. "Fuck! It's getting cold here too. Let me put on a robe."
"Yes, please!" Kurt squeaked.
Once Harvey had his robe on, they quickly realized the power was out.
"I have an emergency generator, but we need to save that for the fridge and being able to sort of cook things. Can you go up and wake up the others? We'll all need to be in the living room by the fireplace. I'll get that roaring and let Adam know."
Kurt went up the stairs and back to his room with a candle and put on warmer clothes before walking across the hall.
"Blaine! Blaine," Kurt banged on his door.
He heard a yelp and then a loud thud. Then the door opened and the cutest tousle-headed Blaine leaned out.
"Wow, your hair looks amazing without all the product in it," Kurt said, his fingers itching to run through it.
"Uh, thanks. What's up? And why is it so cold?" Blaine said, rubbing his arms and shivering .
Blaine's nipples were hard from the cold, perfectly defined beneath the thin fabric of his t-shirt. Kurt stared for a minute before catching himself.
"Oh, gosh, the power is out. Harvey wants us all to grab warm things and go down to the living room with the fireplace. He's stocking it with wood now."
"Damn, that's going to be awkward."
Kurt looked at Blaine and then at Cooper's door. "Do you think it's safe for me to knock?"
"Let's do it together. Cooper's a grump if he doesn't get enough sleep." Blaine wore a goofy smile.
They managed to get Cooper up, and, after a few minutes of his complaining, they were all dressed and on their way downstairs.
In the meantime, Harvey had woken Adam and gotten several sleeping bags, blankets, and pillows out, along with throwing more wood on the fire and connecting the fridge circuit to the generator.
"Sleepover time!" Harvey exclaimed.
"Great," Adam said sulkily, yawning. He hadn't come back until a couple hours ago and didn't appreciate being woken up.
Kurt and Blaine gravitated to one end of the sofa and decided to combine gear to get comfortable and stay warm.
"This is one way to get to know each other better," Blaine joked with a grin.
Cooper took the end of the sofa they weren't using, which left Adam and Harvey to the other sofa.
Everyone watched the fire for a while, mesmerized by the flames and lost in their own thoughts, warm yet feeling the cold slowly creep in around them.
Kurt wrapped an arm around Blaine, who snuggled in for warmth and began to doze.
"What does everyone think of the production and script so far?" Harvey said, breaking the calm silence.
Cooper spoke up. "It seems to be fine so far. It's exciting being the guest star of the week, so to speak."
"Guest star of the week? You do know you are going to be murdered soon right?" Adam sneered.
"What!? They can't do that to me. They need my brilliance throughout the entire episode."
Kurt laughed.
Cooper scowled. "What's so funny?"
"If you've only seen one episode of the show, you'd have known you were going to be the victim of the week. Shady real estate developer, blackmailing town, then, bam! Dead!"
Blaine laughed. "He's right, Coop. When will you learn to read the whole script?"
They all laughed at Cooper, outraged and spluttering.
Eventually they all fell asleep. The fire was warm, but the cold crept into the room more and more. As they slept, each of them gravitated closer to each other and the fire for warmth.
A few hours later, Cooper was plastered against Blaine, who was still snuggled up with Kurt on the one sofa, and Harvey and Adam cuddled up on the other sofa.
Kurt startled awake, confused before realizing who he was holding so close. He leaned down and placed a kiss on Blaine's forehead, sighing contentedly.
"You seem really interested in Squirt," Cooper said.
"Who wouldn't be? He's sweet and funny and very hot too," Kurt said softly.
Of course, that was the moment Blaine moved. "Coop, you know I hate when you call me Squirt." Then he looked into Kurt's eyes. "You are the hottest guy I've ever seen, Kurt."
Kurt blushed and looked down before looking back at Blaine and leaning in for a kiss.
Cooper smiled at them. "Aww, somebody is in love," he teased.
Both Kurt and Blaine hit Cooper with pillows. "Ouch! Not the face!"
As they woke up further, they could see their breath even with the fire still smoldering.
They all got up to use the downstairs bathroom as quickly as possible in the cold, and Blaine pulled the curtain to look outside. All he could see was white all around. The sports car was completely buried, and he'd honestly have a hard time saying that there was a car for sure.
By that point, the noises had woken Harvey and Adam. Harvey set up an apparatus over the fireplace and put a pan of water on to heat and threw another log on the fire. He set up a big carafe filled with coffee in a French press and pulled out spoons, bowls, and oatmeal packets for everyone in the kitchen, shivering even in his jacket.
"Harvey, is there a way to find out what's going on with the storm?" Kurt asked.
"Oh, yeah, I have a transistor radio for when the power goes out. Let me look for it. I'm not usually here much. Aha! There it is."
Harvey tuned the radio to the local station.
The announcer was reporting on the storm. "Wow, mother nature has really socked it to us this season. With these two back-to-back Nor'easters, we have a full blizzard on our hands. Town officials are asking everyone to stay inside and not risk themselves. There are emergency crews working on the multiple power outages across town. The governor has issued a state of emergency and no one should be out for their own safety. The snow plows are being used for emergency services only as the storm continues. Everyone get settled in for a spell. In other local news…"
"Wow, it sounds like we won't be able to pick up working on the show for a few days," Harvey said.
Once the water had boiled, everyone had coffee and oatmeal to warm them up a bit.
With nothing but time on their hands, the boys decided they would practice their lines and got out their scripts. After a few hours, they were thoroughly bored. They went out to bring in more firewood from the side of the house, and Harvey warmed up cans of soup for everyone with Sterno. He had plenty of cold cuts in the fridge, so they ate some sandwiches too.
Kurt and Blaine had gravitated back to the couch and the blankets, cuddling with some surreptitious kisses when they thought no one was looking.
Cooper watched from the kitchen entrance way with a smile . It looked like his brother might finally be getting lucky with his love life. There had been a long dry patch since that jerk in high school.
Harvey smiled, leaning over Cooper's shoulder. "Ain't love grand?"
Cooper chuckled. "I wouldn't know about that, but it seems like they are heading in that direction."
Adam pushed past them. "Get a room, you two.," He plopped down on the other sofa.
Kurt shot him daggers and tried to ignore him.
Harvey brought out some marshmallows and sticks, so they could roast them over the fire.
Blaine playfully stuck a bit of warm marshmallow on Kurt's nose, then licked it off before Kurt could protest, laughing at the look on his face.
The rest of the house got colder and colder around them as the day wore on.
They ended up playing board games, Twenty Questions, and anything else they could think of. No one wanted to drain their phone batteries, so everyone kept them turned off. It was killing them not to be checking gossip, news, and keeping up with their respective fans.
Eventually, they decided to have an a cappella sing-off.
Blaine and Kurt decided on a duet and mashed up two songs, Will You Love Me Tomorrow and Head Over Feet, creating a great harmony together.
Adam blew everyone away with a rendition of Michael Jackson's Thriller.
After that, everyone tried to get a nap in to share warmth. They kept the fire well stocked, but now the entire house was close to the same temperature as it was outside. Thankfully, Harvey had the pipes all wrapped, so they weren't likely to burst.
Adam's hostility seemed to ebb the longer they were stuck together. He knew it wasn't truly Kurt's fault. He just was so disappointed at the time.
The guys alternated between songs, gossip, and snacking, while trying not to leave the warm blankets as much as possible. The trips to the bathroom had everyone shivering.
After two days and nights of the power being out, the heat finally started up sometime in the morning on the third day. No one realized at first as it took a while for the heat to actually push off the cold air that had settled in the house. Eventually, they realized it was working and flicked on the light switches. Harvey started working on a hot lunch for everyone.
"Do you think we can use the showers now?" Kurt asked with a pleading note in his voice.
"Sorry, sweetie, not yet. It'll take a bit for the water to warm up in the hot water tank again, probably by this evening. We're all in the same boat though. Don't feel self conscious," Harvey said.
That night Kurt was thrilled to step out of a hot shower after scrubbing himself thoroughly and doing his moisturizing routine. This weather wasn't doing his complexion any favors. As he slid beneath the covers, he was thrilled to feel the soft bed under him. He lay there thinking about the last few days and how much he enjoyed cuddling with Blaine. He rolled over and turned the light out, but sleep was eluding him.
Suddenly, he heard a faint tapping at his door. He wasn't sure at first if he was hearing things, but the noise continued for a bit. He got up to open the door and spied Blaine just opening his door. Blaine turned around and smiled at Kurt, and his heart melted.
"Hey, I thought I heard someone at my door," Kurt said hesitantly.
"You did. That was me," Blaine said shyly.
"What's up?"
"I was having trouble falling asleep and realized something was missing."
"Something was missing? What?"
"You. I got used to sleeping with your arm around me the last few nights. I was knocking to see if maybe you'd hold me tonight." He ducked his head, blushing.
"To be honest, I was having trouble falling asleep too. Come on in."
Blaine quickly pushed through the door, and Kurt closed it quietly. "Big spoon or little?"
"Little tonight."
They slid into Kurt's bed, and he snaked an arm around Blaine's waist and pulled him in close. He kissed him on the back of the neck, and the two of them swiftly fell asleep.
A couple days later, the town was up and running again, and the guys were able to drive to the set. Adam had thawed to everyone and was driving them all over in the mornings. The weather was still bitterly cold with below zero overnight temps.
As filming continued, Kurt and Blaine's on-screen romance progressed. Blaine even sang a song to Kurt during the open mic night at the coffee shop.
At home they were still cuddling, and their relationship was growing more physical, but they hadn't wanted to rush into sex yet.
The production was starting to wind down, and they were filming a night scene, the murder of Cooper via flashback. Blaine was there waiting for Cooper and Harvey to finish for the night. Kurt had already finished for the day.
As they shouted action, Harvey lifted the pistol and aimed at Cooper. They spoke their lines back and forth, and then Cooper saw the pistol. Harvey fired at the appropriate time, but, unfortunately his aim was off, and the blank ricocheted off a trash can and hit the sign above the coffee shop.
Everyone looked in horror as a loud wrenching sound rang out, and the sign fell on top of Blaine, knocking him out.
Screams filled the air, and people rushed to help him. He was out cold. Production called for an ambulance, and he and Cooper were rushed to the local hospital.
Harvey rushed to call Kurt.
"Sweetie…"
"Hey, Harvey. Why are you calling me? Aren't you still filming?"
"Well, I don't know how to tell you this, but there's been an accident."
"An accident? What happened?"
"Well, I kind of shot Blaine!"
"You what!? Is he okay?" Kurt panicked.
"He's on his way to the hospital with Cooper. He wasn't conscious when they left. Adam is on the way to pick you up. We figured you'd want to be there with him."
Kurt was at a loss for words as his brain tried to catch up to what Harvey had told him.
"Okay. I'll grab my jacket and be ready when he gets here." He hung up the phone, stunned.
Adam arrived a few minutes later, pealing into the driveway.
Kurt was out the door in seconds, and they took off in a hurry.
"What happened?" Kurt was desperate for information.
"I don't know much, man. They were filming the flashback scene of the murder and something happened with the gun and Blaine was hit on the head. I'm sorry, I know you two were—I mean, are—close." Adam floored the accelerator, wanting to get Kurt there as soon as possible.
They arrived about ten minutes later, and Kurt rushed in to ask the nurse about Blaine.
Cooper had been expecting Kurt and had been watching for him. He waved to the nurse that it was okay to let him back.
Kurt hugged Cooper tightly. "No one has any information. How is he?"
"He's not good. The sign hit him on the head and caused some swelling. They said we just have to wait. They'll keep monitoring his vitals and make sure he's not bleeding internally. If we can avoid that, he should be fine in a few days."
They entered Blaine's room, and Kurt rushed to his side, grabbing his hand and kissing it. "Oh, Blaine, I hope you can hear me. I'm here, I love you." Kurt didn't realize he'd said that out loud.
Cooper looked shocked for a minute. "I knew you wouldn't be able to resist an Anderson brother!"
"What?" Kurt looked at him like he'd grown a second head.
"You just said you loved Squirt."
"I did? Well, I guess I do." Tears rolled down his face.
They both were allowed to spend the night and alternated holding Blaine's hand and talking to him.
The doctors checked his results a few hours later, and there was thankfully no internal bleeding and the swelling was going down.
Later that morning, Blaine started to stir. He gripped Kurt's hand tightly and slowly opened his eyes.
"Blaine! He's awake. Can you see me, sweetie?" Kurt said.
"Hello. Are you a movie star? 'Cause you're sure pretty," Blaine said groggily.
He smiled. "It's me, Kurt."
"I don't know anyone named Kurt. What happened? Coop? Why aren't you in Los Angeles?"
Cooper grew worried. "Squirt, we've been in Maine for a while now. You're working on a show with me, don't you remember?"
"Show? No, I don't remember any show."
Kurt and Cooper looked at each other in terror. By that point the nurses had heard he was awake and came in.
"Let me get the doctor."
The doctor arrived promptly and started checking Blaine out, asking him a series of questions.
After a few minutes, he nodded to Cooper and asked him to step outside. Kurt made to follow him and was told family only.
Cooper told the doctor it was okay to tell Kurt too.
That's when they found out Blaine had amnesia. The hit on his head had made him forget the last couple weeks.
"What?! Will he remember eventually? Is he going to be okay?"
"It's normal with blunt force trauma. Unfortunately, we don't know if his memory will come back or not. You'll just need to keep an eye on him and see how things go."
Kurt started sobbing, and by that point Harvey had arrived, so he took Kurt in his arms. Cooper was in shock and didn't know what to say.
Eventually, Cooper went back in to explain things to Blaine, and Harvey and Kurt joined him.
"How could I not remember being in a movie or meeting Angela Lansbury? It all seems surreal to me. How do I know you Kurt—I think you said your name was?"
Kurt began to cry again.
"I'm sorry, I don't recognize you. But my heart sure seems upset that I made you cry. Are you someone special to me?" Blaine asked with puppy dog eyes.
"You…e….we're onscreen love interests, and we were, I don't know, we've had a blizzard and work, but sort of dating and getting to know each other. We had plans to be in New York together after the show ended." Kurt was bewildered by the turn of events.
Blaine reached for Kurt's hand. "I'd like to get to know you again, if you can be patient with me."
"I'd like that. I was really looking forward to having you in my life," Kurt said, tears rolling down his face again.
Blaine was released the next day, and production started up again the day after. Everyone came up to Blaine to say something as he returned to set. Even Angela Lansbury made a point of coming over to talk to him for a bit. She walked away with a twinkle in her eye and a smile on her face.
When they were all home for the night, Kurt remembered to ask Blaine what she said to him.
"Oh, she said she had grown very fond of you, Kurt, and that she hoped we'd find the magic we seemed to have from the day she first saw us."
Kurt smiled. "Me too, me too."
When they weren't working, Blaine and Kurt spent time together. For Blaine it was the first time, but for Kurt it was a bit harder. He hoped this amazing man would fall for Kurt, like Kurt had fallen for him.
Each day, Blaine had people checking on him and making sure he wasn't over doing it. For Blaine, it was his first time in a TV special, and he was loving the experience. They played the song he sang for him at one point. He was so excited to have his musical talent used in the episode.
The production finally started to wrap up. Harvey was revealed as the killer after trying to pin it on Adam, and he was taken off to jail. They brought back some of the actors from the old series as a touch of nostalgia too.
Kurt's character had decided to stick around for a while, to see if there might be something serious between him and a certain coffee shop owner. Jessica was excited to get to spend more time with one of her favorite students. She hoped there wouldn't be any more murders in town. She wondered, not for the first time, how such a small town seemed to draw so many killers.
Kurt had booked himself some time off at the B&B after the production ended. He just wanted to breathe and relax for a few days.
Blaine decided to stay the week too, to get to know Kurt and have some down time. His memory hadn't come back yet, but he was building new memories with Kurt and was excited to see where things went. Other than his memory loss, he seemed to have fully recovered from the accident.
With many assurances that Kurt would look after Blaine, Cooper flew back to Los Angeles with a lead on a new commercial. Adam was also gone, off to record a new album. His experience on set had given him some song ideas.
That left Kurt and Blaine mostly alone at the B & B. Harvey was there to cook meals and take care of things, but he mostly left them on their own. They were working on rekindling their romance one day at a time, seeing if falling in love a second time was possible.
They were sitting in front of the fireplace, and Harvey had left some snacks for them and retired earlier. The lights above the fire twinkled as Kurt looked off into the distance, cuddling Blaine to him, enjoying the chance to get to know him a second time. The snow was falling softly outside the window, and it was a perfect night to be in love and with the man of his dreams.
Notes: Dame Angela Lansbury passed away as I started writing this story. I got the chance to see her in Blithe Spirit on her last tour. I'd like to dedicate this to her memory.
