.xCHAPTER 2x.

Introductions

It was on an extremely rare occasion that Bakura would close the door quietly. Today was not one of these rare occasions. In fact he made extra effort just to slam the door to announce his arrival to his younger brother, Ryo.

"Bad da-"

"Bad day? When have I not had a bad day? I swear, that idiot Pegasus is gonna die! He thinks he can make me work over Christmas? He's got better chance of getting me to eat marshmallows!"

"You don't celebrate Christmas anyway, you're not going to miss much-"

"I like Christmas break!"

"It's not like you do anything when you're 'working' anyway-"

"I RID THE WORLD OF THOUSANDS OF THOSE BLOOD-SUCKING RATS!"

"Yeah I guess…but that was at least 10 years ago, and the most you have heard of a vampire after that is when those vampires turned up in Australia…" He trailed off as Bakura crashed down onto the black leather couch he had been stood over and crossed his arms, sulking. Ryo sighed quietly and looked back down at the pages of a thick hardback book, nestled comfortably in his lap.

"Why do you read Ryo? Reading is for girls and wimps. I don't like either of them." Ryo almost snarled as he snapped the hardback shut, he stood and threw it onto a paper covered coffee table.

"I read because it is for a school essay, and if I can't read because it bothers you so, I'm going to Yugi's," Bakura simply smirked as his dark brown, almost black, eyes followed his could-be-twin brother, not acknowledging a second sentence added about Yugi being better company and more like family than he was. Instead he sought to annoy his sibling even more; "Still hanging around that little shrimp are you?"

"Yes and don't call him a shrimp."

"Why who's gonna stop me?" The younger ignored this comment and yanked a jacket from a coat hook as he headed out of the house. The elder albino stared blankly for a few seconds at where Ryo had been stood, before turning back to face a blank television screen and reaching for his mobile phone, on which he began to text.

'One new message'

'Show'

'Warning, white haired reason for my suffering headed your way'

Atem smirked and tucked his phone into his dark blue jacket pocket.

"Yugi!"

No answer.

"Yugi?"

Still silence. The hunter headed towards the stairs, a small frown resting on his face. Behind him a grey haired man, wearing green overalls and an orange bandana, was tiptoeing closer and closer, his arms outstretched ready to hide the eyes of the (so he thought) unsuspecting hunter…

"SURPR-…Oh fiddlesticks! Caught me again, eh?"

"Yep, I have to be good at catching people sneaking up on me don't I? Especially if there are vampires still at large. Have you seen Yugi?"

"Not seen him since this morning… but I heard him when he came in from school" The elderly man chuckled.

"Well do you know where he went he's not answering when I shout him…" Solomon interrupted his oldest grandson with yet another chuckle.

"I thought you would know Yugi by now! Even I know what he usually does after dinner!" Atem rolled his eyes at his grandfather's riddles. He left his giggling grandfather to well… giggle, and headed upstairs to his younger brother's room, where he half-knew, half-guessed Yugi would be. To his better guess the youngest Mutou was lay on his bed, eyes closed, with two long earphones attached to a silver ipod screwed into his ear, nodding his head in time with the beat.

The hunter crept up to his brother, grabbed his earphones and yanked them out lowering his head to Yugi's ear and yelled, "RYO'S COMING OVER!" The smaller screamed and rolled off the bed in shock.

"W-what?"

"Ryo is coming over he'll be here soon…" Atem doubled over, unable to hold in the laughter any longer. Yugi simply blushed and ran down the stairs to the door to wait for Ryo's arrival.

A figure sat lazily on a huge branch looking over Domino Park. Its lavender eyes gazed into the sky, their owner enjoying the cool breeze that signified the closing of the day and accompanied the multi-coloured sunset.

Marik enjoyed his hour of freedom whilst his sister prepared dinner, and today, as it was his birthday, he was allowed to stray as far as he wanted from the house. It wasn't any more exciting than only staying in the same street, but he felt good to have more freedom, just like he had ten years ago before the hunters came. It hadn't crossed his mind much during the year, but seeing as the destruction of his home village's anniversary had passed the day before, he found that the thoughts and memories refused to leave him alone.

He sighed, welcoming the fresh, cool air that passed through his lungs when he did so. He didn't want this peace to stop. If it could, he wanted this to last forever.

Seto Kaiba emerged from behind a huge machine to punch furiously at a small keyboard surrounded by a series of coloured buttons, blue eyes glued to a huge monitor. Growling and muttering he punched a final string of keys in and disappeared behind he machine again to fiddle with wires and plugs.

"How's my little contraption Kaiba-boy?"

"Nearly had it… just won't pick up Japan on the maps… need to fix… oww… gah! Stupid thing! Got it!" The brunet emerged once again to find himself face to face with the head vampire hunter; Maximilian Pegasus.

"I got it working sir… I think…"

"Oh goodie! Now tell me how to work it, do I pull this thingamabob or push this big button?" Seto rolled his eyes at Pegasus' naïve take to electronics. How he wished that the silver haired male would try to take things seriously once in a while.

"No you push this." The technician pointed out a green button next to his boss' gloved hand. Pegasus' brown eyes glittered as a display of maps flashed onto the screen, "No! This still isn't right, Japan isn't on here!" Once again the brunet rolled his eyes and pointed to a button. The grey haired male pushed it cautiously as though it could bite back. A map of the country appeared on the screen as Pegasus stared in awe.

Almost as soon as the map had appeared, an alarm whirred into action, it's screechy siren echoing through the halls of the hunter's base. Seto jumped into action and punched a key in the keyboard multiple times. The screen zoomed in rapidly, homing in on two repeatedly flashing red dots.

"What does that mean Kaiba?"

"Heh, it means we've got them cornered." He turned and pointed harshly at a male walking past carrying a wad of paper, "You! Alert hunters, Bakura, Mutou, Gardener and Ishtar, tell them they've got a couple of visitors in their area." The man nodded and dashed off down a corridor.

Seto turned to the monitor, a smirk plastered to his face, "Gotcha…"

Marik's previous relaxed expression distorted into an annoyed frown as his pointed ears picked up rapid footsteps, approaching the park fast. He turned towards them, squinting to make out who it was running towards him, half of him praying it was just a child.

They were getting closer, now he could make out more sets of footsteps behind the previous set he'd heard. He could just make out the figure running towards the park, a woman, getting closer by the second, her black hair like a cloak billowing out behind her.

"Ishizu.." He muttered, straightening his back with a heavy frown and leaning forward to get a better look. The young vampire could now see behind her too.

"MARIK! RUN NOW!"

A gunshot sounded and the elder vampire screamed as the stake flew past her left cheek, hitting a nearby park bench. The blonde's eyes widened, he jumped down from the tree and ran. His sister behind him panting heavily. Marik slowed down glancing fearfully at Ishizu, the hunters were right on her tail and there were four of them.

Ishizu soon caught up with her younger brother, meaning the hunters weren't too far away either, "Marik... you... should... go... i'll be... fine... just run!"

"I'm not gonna leave them to ge-"

Another gunshot and Marik doubled over.

"MARIK NO…"
